Adventurer's Guild β July: Dark Sun: Shattered Lands
@J1M The stone sun is the best bet. It's the recurring motif.

Just finished this; game is quite short, about 15 hours long which is a lot shorter than what I'd have expected. The final battle is indeed extremely tough, to the point it almost feels like the game is trying to **** you up, took me several tries but still I eventually managed to beat it with my strong womyn mage casting web and wall of fire which significantly weakened the enemy horde.

@Oyster Sauce badge plz
BTW should I play the sequel? Heard it's quite buggy and unpolished.

The final battle is a huge difficulty spike, since they give you three battles (two if you use a genie wish) back to back with no break in between. The rest of the game is very reasonable when it comes to challenge, which makes it more of a surprise.Tinky Winky wrote: β January 6th, 2025, 14:57Just finished this; game is quite short, about 15 hours long which is a lot shorter than what I'd have expected. Honestly the biggest difficulty spike I've ever seen in the game, you got two dozen of enemies that have about 70-80 hp for the final wave. I have to cheese it by creating a bottleneck at the top-right corner of the map and basically cheesed it. Don't see how you can beat the game without cheesing neither.Tangerine wrote: β January 6th, 2025, 15:06The final battle is a huge difficulty spike, since they give you three battles (two if you use a genie wish) back to back with no break in between. Game exits whenever I am saving, is that normal?

I can't remember exactly how right now, but there's two ways to save and one of them causes the game to exit.

save from the game menu, click the left button on the bottom-right of the character menu. (you can also view the ingame map with this)
If you save through the escape menu, it quits. You have to save through the options menu to save without quitting. You can get to it by hitting tab or opening the character sheets or inventory and hitting the options menu.

Finally, finished it.

Brutal. Underprepared, knew it was tough, didn't know there was a round 2

The interface on this one is rough. Think I've hit my limit of janky DOS input for a while.

I was enjoying this, can't remember why I didn't finish it. Don't recall having an issue with the UI beyond being an old UI.

Final ******* battle won't trigger, even after I killed everything in the village to try and start it. GG.

I wonder if tweed threatened to leave the site again if they didn't give him the badge.
Meanwhile, good users like Corncake get driven off the site due to a petty moderator denying him badges for arbitrary reasons.
My final words at the gaydex will always be true and timeless:

If you can prove you got >95% of the way thru a game and the game bugged out, you will get a badge.Bertram_Tung wrote: β January 24th, 2026, 20:34why did tweed get a dark sun badge even though he didn't finish the game?

Arbitrary rule you just came up with to justify ******** on the integrity of the Adventurer's Guild.rusty_shackleford wrote: β January 24th, 2026, 21:01If you can prove you got >95% of the way thru a game and the game bugged out, you will get a badge.Bertram_Tung wrote: β January 24th, 2026, 20:34why did tweed get a dark sun badge even though he didn't finish the game?
The game is beatable and multiple people showed that in the thread. I beat the game decades ago, I know it's perfectly beatable. He probably just didn't know how to trigger the final battle. And if it was bugged, that's why you make multiple saves when playing older games. That's common gamer knowledge.
His choice to display the badge when he didn't even complete the game is even more dishonorable than you giving out the badge out of favoritism.
Stolen valor.

There are multiple AGC games that have bugged out for me in the final stretch. Thus far I have been able to apply technical skill to resolve the problems or approach things in a different way to sidestep the bugs. It's nice to know this very reasonable rule is in place.Bertram_Tung wrote: β January 24th, 2026, 21:07Arbitrary rule you just came up with to justify ******** on the integrity of the Adventurer's Guild.rusty_shackleford wrote: β January 24th, 2026, 21:01If you can prove you got >95% of the way thru a game and the game bugged out, you will get a badge.Bertram_Tung wrote: β January 24th, 2026, 20:34why did tweed get a dark sun badge even though he didn't finish the game?

Yet you were able to resolve the problems you faced and beat the game. BEAT THE GAME. That took commitment. That's badge worthy.J1M wrote: β January 24th, 2026, 21:52There are multiple AGC games that have bugged out for me in the final stretch. Giving up in the face of a bug, while maybe understandable, is not worthy of a badge of completion, no matter how you slice it.
Many months later and I pushed through the pain. I don't have a lot to say about this one. I liked the use of crystals to activate the teleporter shortcuts. I absolutely hated the interface. Also don't think I'll ever like the multiclassing of this era of D&D. Food as spell buff substitutes could be worth doing in other games. The setting is cool but starting a rebel uprising is probably the least interesting thing to do in Dark Sun.J1M wrote: β September 21st, 2025, 02:17The interface on this one is rough. Upon contrasting this game with other AGC entries, I found myself giving it a relative ranking of 4 out of 5 pips. It sidesteps the obvious flaws a lot of other older games have. The quest triggers worked, it's non-linear, it has fast travel and optional areas. I can see why people remember it in a positive light. Maybe I will too once my feelings about the interface fade.

It actually has one of the better UI design I've ever seen, better than what we have today at least.
