"Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."
I acknowledge that other aspects of the game evidence that they are certainly woke. I further understand that is likely that they chose to make a bunch of strong female bug warriors because they are woke first and because they make sense second. Nevertheless, in a vacuum, I have no problem with them as a setting element. I find it highly unfortunate that liberal authors have tainted certain concepts to such a degree that they can no longer be explored in fiction without arousing political concerns.logincrash wrote: β September 6th, 2025, 04:56This is how they trick you into justifying and defending their poison.WhiteShark wrote: β September 6th, 2025, 02:22The devs are clearly woke for other reasons (the nailsmith, etc.), but there are lots of insect species in which the females are bigger and stronger than the males. I've noticed this with OG Hollow Knight. Base game had a decently balanced difficulty curve - reasonably challenging, but without pull-your-hair-out moments. Then the devs started adding more **** with free updates, and all of the newly added **** was hard as balls and finetuned for le hardcore players - boss rush mode, beat the game on one life mode, new optional bosses who remove multiple masks with one hit and have very complex attack patterns, supermeatboy-tier platforming section, etc etc.Tweed wrote: β September 6th, 2025, 03:32Game is already a lot harder out the gate than Hollow Knight. Seems to be a curse of metroidvany designers to make everything hard as ****.
Too bad they decided to design Silksong with the same 'hardcore' outlook right from the get go. I liked the first HK, will be skipping the sequel.

Miss me with that ****. Doesn't bother you? Cool. It does bother me though. A lot. And I do not want to associate nor to support people that do this demented tirade of "wahmen are perfect and we castrated manginas are worthless worms in their presence!! Step on meeeh!!!".

The "taint" status is there because it always went one way for decades. Ever notice that games (both videogames and ttrpgs) have overwhelmingly the all-women, "amazon" faction, but almost never an all-male one? Seriously, the only ones I can think of are the Space Marines and the Adeptus Custodes in W40k. And one has been retconned to become unisex, the other is under constant attack by tourists railing about "much female space marines", with current GW salivating at the thought, but unable to do so for fear of fans' backlash... for now.WhiteShark wrote: β September 6th, 2025, 05:52I acknowledge that other aspects of the game evidence that they are certainly woke. I can only remember one game where there are only men. And that is Battle Brothers. Shall we list the games where there are females only or a predominant majority of them (curiously, most of them are Asian)?
And by the way, you do you. You like this game? Go for it. I won't, because I find this design philosophy deeply insulting. And I do not want to give money to people who insult me.
Virtue signaling edit: From a guy who has Metroid Prime in the roster of his favorite games (Samus' character included).

We can't even get all-male guards or bandits, men haven't been allowed to have **** ever since women demanded to be allowed in men's locker rooms(look it up, this is where the start of the end of male spaces began)

Also, in the case of w40k, for an all-male faction, there is an all-female one (Adepta Sororitas, Sisters of Silence), and an OPENLY MISANDRIST ONE, Necromunda's House Escher.
And we are talking about a game which started in what, the 80s? 90s?
So yeah, the taint is being considered "taint" nowadays for a reason.

Sandy ain't wrong and I'm not having the same levels of fun I had with HK. Something about it feels off, besides stronk womyn tropes. Even HK suffered from long bouts of wasting the player's time and I don't mean backtracking.
In fact, I think modern game designers have forgotten that games are supposed to be FUN.
My proficiency at this game makes me feel like a God when 98% of Reddit and the Steam forums is complaining about the difficulty - which just feels normal to me. I'm finding the exploration enjoyable; the map is enormous and the game has several layers. You can tell they worked on this for many years. The tiny details are incredible, too.
I don't really care about bug genders but I guess that's how they get you. But I can see why people would complain about that because it's actually bizarre how I haven't encountered a single male warrior somehow that had dialogue. What's with that? That wasn't the case in Hollow Knight. I'm not sure they did this on purpose though. I might just as well say this is a result of a changed, as you'd say, pozzed, environment. It's happened to me too; I've caught myself saying "they" for a guy without meaning to two or three times, just because so many media are using it in this way (wrongly) and it can bleed over. The corruption...
Anyway, the game is great otherwise, and from the first minute, not 60 or 600 minutes in. Metroid-like games were never popular in the first place simply because people dislike backtracking and that's okay, too. This is a very well made one full of skips and with very responsive combat and platforming. The music is nice, the atmosphere is dense, the boss fights are great... There really isn't much to complain about other than the female proliferation.
One of the reasons I've stopped writing (or reading) online is because a lot of times, people have very strong opinions on things, but no experience, and so, their opinions end up completely worthless. At the same time, you could have a lot of experience, but nobody would be able to know because they don't know you or your life, and so your own contribution, perhaps like this one here, ends up looking entirely worthless in turn. It's usually better to just remain silent, but I did just want to give a positive opinion from someone who's played a lot of this genre and who some of you have known for 20 years from the Codex.

Videos/ articles saying the game is a wake up call to industry is certainly interesting considering the game was announce 7 years before release with little updates , then shadow dropping it for $20.
I donβt about you but that doesnβt like a feasible strategy in any level in AAA, AA or indie development and would go very badly more often than not.

From what I have gathered from people I occasionally pretend to respect (my friends) the game is mechanically competent but as far as story, gameplay and... basically everything goes, it's the first game but slightly worse in some aspects.
So for me that's a skip. I'm already not too obsessed with the genre of Metroidvanias (Ori and the Blind Forest plus the sequel nonwithstanding) so I guess I'll wait for something else to grab my attention. Probably Voidling Bound.
