As I understand it, Steam was created as a platform for all games that developers upload, as long as they follow the rules. You, however, are proposing to rewrite the convenient, working rules (created for a general population of mostly adults) based solely on your own prudish and unnatural views on erotic in games.
Steam didn't start selling adult games until 2017 when they opened the floodgates, a move that resulted in a lot of non-adult slop being sold on the store as well.

https://steamdb.info/stats/releases/

Their business, they can do what they want, but it was an enshittification.

Doesn't the filter also affect games that get community labels? Like if a game like Witcher 3 gets the hentai tag often enough?

Funny thing is I already have a bank card attached to my account.

I just did it again and Steam took Β£1 to verify it, but the message still shows and I still can't access Grand Tits Adventure [18+]!

Looks like they've made it literally impossible to submit a support ticket through Steam now. My wildest dreams of living in Grand Tits Adventure [18+] is an unreachable reality.

You can submit tickets and get responses from Steam support people, I've done it several times before. Seems like they've made it more difficult recently, however.

I'm going to level with you guys. Especially you, @Kalarion.

While I've been absolutely forthright about how much I hate goonerslop and the gooners that slop it up, I do think banning it might be bad.

Hear me out for a second:

Without access to porn, these people might actually start leaving the house and then we'd have to interact with them in real life too.

I feel very uncomfortable about the idea of legalizing and facilitating wireheading, no matter how eugenic it would be.

I got this reply this morning:

Image

"We understand your feeling." (Indian?). They said I need a credit card specifically and that a debit card won't count. Bit of an odd choice considering most UK people don't even have one. Now I could add mine since I do have one but I don't really get why they can't just ask me for a photo of my ID or something?

I decided to mess about with a VPN and made an account with the Sweden store. I bought a Β£5 Steam gift card via Enaba and redeemed it and purchased a game. I'm going to try and refund it and gift a game to another account. This is supposedly against Steam TOS so I will use an alt for testing.

I guess another way around it would be to just browse the steam store using vpn and then buy via G2A or Enaba, etc

because of pornbrains I'm forced to pick between my store page being flooded with INTERACTIVE STEP MOM STUCK IN WASHER or blocking 'mature' content and not being able to see games like Witcher 3.

I actually had to block a bunch of tags to stop getting flooded with porn:
Image

This is despite my filtering settings looking like this:
Image
I mean, I'm forced to side with Trickster and Contrarian here Rusty. Banning tags is exactly what you're supposed to do to clean up unwanted content. It's why I banned the "Female Protagonist" tag on my Steam account. Not because I want to ban every game with women in them, but because a game that brands itself with "Female Protagonist" is the kind I wouldn't want anyway.

Yes, there is slop on Steam. Yes, some of it is porn slop.

No, I don't think Steam needs to be made child-safe for the little kiddies. As I'm sure you've observed, stuff like this can also mean banning games like the Witcher series.

If the children are your main concern (and not just a point to make your annoyance with porn slop seem stronger), then a good way to handle it would be to hide all adult games above a certain rating for any account without a credit card or bank account attached. That will keep the youngest kids away, and those old enough to circumvent this can find porn much easier by using Google.

As much as the indie circle of game development is full of ******* hipsters and porn-game peddlers, it's also given us some of the better games of the last decade. Steam opening up their listing requirements gives these people an actual chance to publish these games, and I honestly think that on average it was a good thing, even if it has some downsides.

Yeah, and I'd never tell you otherwise. I was just explaining why I think Steam is the way it is.

Side note: you are correct that some games are tagged improperly. Those actually are removed or get tagged if they get reported enough or enough people add a particular tag.

It's annoying but it also means that most games are tagged correctly a few days after release.

Until your porn-free alternative exists, console yourself with this: Steam still having porn games means the feminists haven't succeeded in subverting Valve yet. So there's a silver lining.

In theory yes. But people can also downvote the hentai tag (most people would agree that the Witcher series isn't hentai), so it gets removed again.
