Ok Ok you like movie games good for you.

I rather spend my time with this. At least you can skip dialogue if it bores you. Then auto resolve 90% of the battles and catch enemy generals like pokemon and let them fight for you.

I appreciate you didn't say you spend your time "playing," seeing the rest of that post.
Ok then I will leave you to your imaginations. :turtle:
There's nothing to imagine. You skip all the dialogue and let the game play itself.

I gotta stop being curious and clicking videos people link here, this was dreadful. Not only am I blasted by the mumblings of an ESL, but then the audio starts hitting the triple decibels once the screeching voice acting starts up. I could possibly see your point here if you played this game on mute.

Guess I could have put a different time for the video, I automatical jump in the middle of hour long videos if I just want to see gameplay and never watch intros. I assumed most do. Pixel art style is nice tho.

Rest is mostly tactics and holding important points so that reinforcements are never cut off from you for long, actual round based combat has like 2 attacks 1 buff per character usually. Even on easy difficulty the AI pumps out units after another that you have to save a lot if you wanna catch all generals.

I'm mostly messing around, although after watching more of the gameplay I can safely say this isn't my genre. It's like a lazy mans turn based combat game, but for me the enjoyment is having control over all these elements this game automates. Supply lines, renewing troops, etc. Or if you're going to reduce these mechanics, at least give something meaningful back to the player. Same issue with the Mafia games, I'm here to play a game, not watch a game. If a game fails this basic principle, it's trash.

yeah I dont enjoy too much micromanagement, already annoying enough if you spend half your time playing in rpgs in the inventory making room or something

I like it when games allow you to become completely OP.
I'm playing X-Men Legends 2 right now and you can build an invincible party. A regular DPS character like, say, Wolverine or Juggernaut, does about 300-500 damage with their leveled up damage-dealing abilities.
But you can level up Gambit (an X-Man I considered worthless before) to do 500 damage with his basic ***** light melee attack. His basic heavy melee attacks do 600-750 damage.
And you can stack abilities that have % damage increase too. So, Nightcrawler's ultimate ability that does 1000% of melee damage can do over 125k damage to a boss in one attack.
"Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."

I wish we could have seen the Ultima Underworld 3 game Origin was working on.

While concept sketches, an expansive design document, and world editor tools were completed, Ultima Underworld III was never officially promoted by Origin as an upcoming title.

Unlike its predecessors, Ultima Underworld III was to have taken place not in Britannia but the grim, weathered world of Jaal, a new location given as the prison to which Astaroth, the Shadowlord of Hatred, was banished in Ultima V. Astaroth, driven to reunite with his two wraith-like siblings, was to serve as one of the game's antagonists, albeit largely as a background presence. Furthermore, the player was to take the role of another protagonist transported from Earth, rather than the Avatar of Virtue.

Although largely self-contained, the events of the game would have provided a tangential prologue for the main Ultima series' Age of Armageddon trilogy, in particular the as yet unreleased Ultima IX, which, at the time, was set to establish the Guardian as an amalgamation of the three Shadowlords.

Look into Monomyth if you haven't already, it's heavily inspired by UU

Monomyth looks pretty interesting and it's DRM-Free! From the sounds of it, Rat Tower is also making good progress towards leaving Early Access. Image

I'll probably wait for the full release. Good games can only be experienced for the first time once, best to grab it when everything is ready. Image

Archrebel Tactics is now being published by Microprose. When did he start making this game? Something like 2018 wasn't it? He even quit his job to work on it full time at one point. And yet...

I'm looking forward to this one. :pipe-hat:
Archrebel Tactics Developer wrote:
A bit of context for those unfamiliar with Archrebel and my story:

Archrebel Tactics’ journey began back in 2010 and has been redesigned from scratch three times before I finally found the right formula and honed the skills needed to be worthy of reincarnating and expanding the classic formulas of Rebelstar and Laser Squad turn-based, tactical war games.

Progress has been steady since 2021, when I left my job to fully dedicate myself to game development, with Archrebel Tactics as the first title on my list. Unfortunately, after three years of intense work, my funds were nearly depleted, and a few ill-timed real-life events forced me to scale back to part-time development.

That said, development is still going strong — and now, with the financial support of MicroProse, I have the option to return to full-time development should I feel my current pace isn’t meeting expectations. The project has never been more alive than it is now!
MicroProse has a few other titles on GOG, so chances are good there will be a DRM-Free release. Image

I'm playing Pillars of Eternity II and in just 8 hours I already found like 5 girlbosses, without even considering the Pallid Knight ordering you around, and she's not even really pallid.

And it looks like the civilization that created the gods hated beauty, because they are all hideous. Honestly I wish all characters in this game were just copies of Zahua spouting some unintelligible ********.

it's crazy that I know what marvel movie writing is despite not watching a single marvel movie merely thru osmosis because I can see the same exact tropes crop up repeatedly over and over in video games

Probably the best way to play PoE2 (sadly) is to disregard the story, make a custom party, crank the difficulty, and murder everything in sight. And when you have a naval battle, ram your ship into it every time to initiate normal combat. I had a fantastic time this way. The combat can be fun, but the writing is just annoying.

Games that have the option to immediately "return" to an area(quest giver, whatever) after collecting/completing something are an example of a quest being designed by someone who actually plays video games

sounds like some MMO time waster where traversal and exploration doesn't matter so nothing of value gets lost by adding a convenient fast travel button.

- Talk to a questgiver
- Go to an area marked on a map
- Do task
- Skip walking back by pressing a convenient button

May as well skip other segments if your game is such a soulless formulaic bugman slop.
