Devs are absolutely fuming that an xbox guy used AI slop in his job listing, loving it. https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/ur ... 866344449/

You know, that'd be a great way to create a list of "never hires." Anyone that gives that much of a **** about AI slop is probably insufferable to be around.

So, who played the new enhanced edition that came out today that had a lot of controversial new changes, didn't fix existing bugs from the original, and although it boasts of new controls they are actually not any better than the old ones?

Oh, I'm talking of course about Stronghold Crusader Definitive Edition. What other game would I have meant?

Thank you for sharing this, was thinking on getting this game on GoG but will be careful to look out for the "enhanced edition" things for this game too :?

48% positive
guess they should have focused on fixing bugs in the base game
Looking like it might be a coordinated review bomb by people who play the online version of the non-EE
I based this guess on going thru a bunch of the reviews and noticing the negative ones frequently mentioning they play regular NWN2 online. It seems a bit suspicious but I have no proof beyond that, suspicion.
Which begs the question: how long until we see a studio or publisher sue people for intentionally leaving negative reviews to impact sales?

It actually does at a lot of new things for skirmish and Crusader Trails, and they've said there will be content updates in the fall amd spring.

I'm not that keen on some of the new units and I think they need to be tweaked. But I saw this today and thought it was funny:

Wanted to ask, is there some way to own or even just to play Nemesis the Warlock? I saw some musics rusty and Tweed posted some time back and I really wanted to try this game out.
I found this place where I can play it but am unsure how close to the original it might be
https://archive.org/details/d64_Nemesis ... tech_Games
I also found it here, but I have yet to look too into it
https://www.lemon64.com/game/nemesis-the-warlock
And wanted to ask for information in case there was something I should know (some version specific things, something to look out for, or anything of the sort). The little that I played just to see if it worked I found quite fun thus far!
I similarly found Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts (thanks, once more, to Tweed that spoke of this game somewhere, among many others that I also saved or made notes for the future), and the same questions would apply for this one too (though for this one I am quite alright playing it through this site)

If I remember correctly, the original version of the game was for C64. @Tweed probably knows more about it than me.

The game on Archive and on Lemon are both the original C64 title. A lot of places can emulate games on the browser now. If you wanted to play it on your desktop you'd need an emulator like VICE.

Super Ghouls and Ghosts is a console exclusive Ghosts N Goblins game for the SNES, didn't come out for any other platform though it got ports to collections later on. Again, same deal, most sites will emulate the ROM file through the browser, but if you want to play it on your OS you'll need an emulator, like snes9x or one of a dozen others, take your pick.

Thank you both! I played Pokémon (Red I believe) among other games in the same way in the past, will look into the emulators too as well though as I like to collect these things and save them on disks if possible. Thank you once more!

a major issue with videogames is you have people who made terrible games teaching other people how to make games

I just came to realize that video games might be the only medium where there are hordes of entitled bums who have only created ****, or even worse, nothing at all, yet still proclaim themselves to be authoritative mentors who deserve to be quoted by actual developers. You never see such behavior among sport fans or even metal elitists, who are probably the most snobbish people in the world.

you'll see some guy teaching classes & with a massively popular yewtoob channel about game design who was responsible for level design in destiny or something and it's really incredible
nobody bothers stopping to think whether this guy who made hallways should actually be teaching people about level design, he must know what he is doing because he worked on big name game

or even worse, they've never made anything at all and speak like an authoritative person on a subject

Selection_002.webp
Selection_003.webp

???

The person who made this wants to teach people about "radically non-linear single player levels"

How about you make one first?

Unless you were doing level design for the Thief games or something, you probably shouldn't be doing a talk like that!

My name is Yaron Shapira, and I’ve been ranked in the top 1% of nearly every competitive game I’ve played. Every competitive game you can think of, I’ve played it and left a pile of sweat and hundreds of kids crying every time. I want to help you do the same.

The mouse is pretty comfortable to use at least, and has mouse-sensitivity options within it.

Good stream here:

Some notes I wrote watching it a few weeks ago which cover before the timestamp:
Video mentioning C&C with the gameplay itself being way better than any game story. Having it be based on how well you play being way better than just choosing the paragon or renegade option when it comes up, which is obvious and trivial.

Another good point is how fake these games are with AI that doesn't actually try to win against you, but instead plays bad on purpose. Not willing to add actual challenge "actual winning vs. pretend winning".

Games are meant to be beaten. AI that beat the world champion chess player every time has existed for decades. That's not fun to play against.

That's an important distinction many that complain about "dumb AI" don't often make.

It would be very easy to make a very difficult AI, one that can headshoot you from across the map, that can achieve inhuman clicks-per-minute in Starcraft and always perfectly nails build orders, timings and unit composition, or can see everything you're doing. Machines can think faster than humans (in specific ways) by orders of magnitude.

The real challenge come from making the AI feel human and makes human mistakes.

One of the first things I programmed was a pong game that would always beat the player just by figuring out where the ball would be far in advance.
It wasn't very fun!

Very useful lesson early in

I mean, if he had an RGB setup or cared enough about looksmaxxing his station, it would make his gaming claims far less believable.

For RTS which they were talking about in the video, even Google's AI wasn't a match for the best players when it wasn't allowed to cheat, never mind one created with far fewer resources. It has advanced, but even then for your average dev it's very unlikely to be doable.

The bigger point of it is whether it's actually doing everything it can to win. It shouldn't ever be in a position where it's strong enough to crush your character with ease if it uses its strong attacks or strikes early and doesn't do this. Or like in fighting games single player mode where it'll just not do anything and let you do whatever you want for a short time window.

Also, games requiring you to actually be skilled to win at them isn't the same thing as being unbeatable.
