Looking like it might be a coordinated review bomb by people who play the online version of the non-EErusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 16th, 2025, 00:5348% positive

A lot of the negative ones seem a bit fishy because they mention playing regular NWN2 online. Which is a bit weird, because how many people actually do that?

Again, just a wild theory.

It's a big issue if this is true. I guess there's just a larger proportion of those who play PWs among those that are interested in EE.Unfortunately the game does not work with the most important aspect: Player made persistent Worlds. Despite Aspyr stating the multiplayer has been restored, it really hasn't.

OK, I would agree that's worth a negative review. But I wonder if they're referring to persistent worlds being hosted by a regular NWN2 server rather than an EE server?Tadeusz wrote: ↑ July 16th, 2025, 06:27Found this excerpt from reviews:rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 16th, 2025, 06:17I suspect, but have zero proof, that it may be coordinated by people who don't want the userbase to fragmentIt's a big issue if this is true. The game description does not say anything about whether old PWs are compatible with EE so people just may be confused. I couldn't find any information about this.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 16th, 2025, 06:28But I wonder if they're referring to persistent worlds being hosted by a regular NWN2 server rather than an EE server?
Interesting you should ask, I was going to make a mod guide but decided to postpone it until the EE was out. Since the EE turned out to be a scam, that means my guide is not outdated.
Anyway, I use the client extension, community fixes, spell fixes, clangeddin collection, tony k's AI and tchos HD UI mod. Also Diffuse for textures.
This is the same issue we saw with Mass Effect Legendary. It’s basically the same games, but we lose a decade’s worth of mod support that had made them so much better. Many mods aren’t compatible with MEL, either by the author’s choice or simply because they’re no longer maintaining them.
So I expected the same issue with this remake.
I vaguely remember a remake that launched with a bunch of mods already available, I can’t recall which one it was but I really think that should happen more often. Especially with cRPGs. If only developers worked more closely with modders, it could make a huge difference.
Anyway, this remake feels irrelevant, pointless, and honestly... useless.

Temporary issues that will be fixed in a couple years time are worth not having to deal with 32bit address space limitation imo

Real devs would just add in mod fixes and give no credit.
In fact, that should be a task for a junior dev; go find some community patch and make sure the fixes aren't too janky before implementing them.
I will be interested in getting this when it becomes compatible with mods.
Now that I think about it, if the modding and campaign creation tools of this EE become more user friendly then I myself may finally be interested in learning how to mod.
Most of the classes and prestige classes I always dreamed to see in a CRPG are in the PRC mod of the first NWN, and I always figured that the main reason why NWN2 never got its own PRC was because of how hard to learn the modding tools are in comparison with its predecessor.
Because NWN1 doesn't have [Quickcast] - my favorite addon to any CRPG I've ever played because I usually play caster builds - I always felt frustrated handling the hundreds of spells and psionic manifestations that the PRC mod added, hence why seeing a PRC for NWN2 has always been a dream of mine.

Just as multiple browsers can talk to a web server, I don't see why they couldn't have made enhanced edition NWN2 compatible with complete edition, platinum edition, and diamond edition NWN2 servers.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 16th, 2025, 20:54Temporary issues that will be fixed in a couple years time are worth not having to deal with 32bit address space limitation imo
It's not like they were busy adding features or content.

If Aspyr updates Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition like Beamdog did Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, then it should end up having more advanced features that would warrant an enhanced edition being made past mere 64 bit addressing for a higher RAM limit. NWN EE had introduced eight class builds to the game in 2023 or so, prior to that three classes were the limit for characters. I bet a change like that couldn't be made without tampering with the executable which would require research. They also changed to a font that doesn't look pixelated when scaled up, so you can run the game better at higher resolutions.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 16th, 2025, 20:54Temporary issues that will be fixed in a couple years time are worth not having to deal with 32bit address space limitation imo
The first real update I want is the upscaled textures to become a separate module of the game that can be installed, similar to how Skyrim had a High Resolution Texture Pack that needed to be downloaded separately, and how Halo: The Master Chief Collection allowed you to download certain games and skip downloading others for saving bandwidth or disk space, or delete already downloaded ones to recover disk space.

Like I said previously, the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior:
It's been a year since aspyr scammed the battlefront community and they didn't even begin to fix the mess they made. But sure, they will totally fix NWN2, a much more niche game with a smaller audience. Totally going to happen, bruh. This garbage release is the worst thing to happen to NWN2, since it puts the nail on the coffin of the MP community.
I'm gonna start a "stop raping the corpses of games" campaign.

Aspyr did what was effectively a remaster for kotor2 when they were porting it to mac/linux and everyone who owned it got the patch

In what year? Back in 2001 Bioware was releasing Baldur's Gate 2:TOB, maybe we should buy their new games? And by the way, WHO THE **** thought a console port of NWN 2 would be profitable? There is ZERO chance of a complex RTwP game working on consoles, zero. And even if it did work, console plebs are low IQ ******* with the attention span of a goldfish. Did they add achievements to this crap? Because there is absolutely no chance that the console versions of NWN 2 will get more than like 5% of players getting the achievement for completing ANY module. And I'm being really generous, the reality is more like 1%. Plebs will buy, play it for like 10 minutes, realize there is no awesome button and go back to Gears of War or something.
OMG, HOLY ******* ****, THE ORIGINAL GAME WAS REMOVED FROM GOG TOO!? Well, piracy is the morally correct choice in this scenario. I hope whoever is behind this remaster dies painfully of cancer, but not before their entire families gets tortured to death. Remasters like these are the reason why impalement was a thing. If the holocaust happened then the ancestors of Aspyr CEOs would've received Justice and we would be spared of such terrible franchise slaughtering. But alas, we live in the worst timeline.

Switch version, same with mobile, will sell more copies than the PC version does. Afaik the various EEs on mobile devices has been very profitable.Eyestabber wrote: ↑ July 17th, 2025, 14:15by the way, WHO THE **** thought a console port of NWN 2 would be profitable

NWN2's big issue is that it just sucks to play period.
If a future edition manages to fix the NWN2 camera, then that would be the best version ever if you ask me.
Many of the things NWN2 did I always liked more than the predecessor, but the chaotic camera and constant mini-map transitions were always super annoying. The mini-maps I doubt that can ever be fixed though.

Yeah, I gave up on SoZ this month because I couldn't stand the camera and UI. I'd forgotten just how much I hated it years ago.
I hear the EE does in fact fix the strategy cam. No more messing up on elevated terrain.UltraFan123 wrote: ↑ July 17th, 2025, 18:24If a future edition manages to fix the NWN2 camera, then that would be the best version ever if you ask me.

A page on wikipedia has been created to list bugs and incompatibilities of the non-EE content with EE, although it contains only a fraction of them as of now:
https://nwn2.fandom.com/wiki/NWN2_Enhanced_Edition_Bugs
https://nwn2.fandom.com/wiki/NWN2_Enhanced_Edition_Bugs
Looks like a stable case of mixed reviews, 46% positive as of now. So far no word from Aspyr about any patches. I predict a 50% sale for Christmas.
The graphics of the new Neverwinter Nights 2 Enhanced Edition are a bit disappointing; I originally expected this to be closer to Dragon Age Origins: compared to what we got. However, it's still acceptable.
But how long can Aspyr's future support last?
There were some vague rumors on the steam forums about a patch coming on 4th of August to fix some bugs. Its unconfirmed tho and the post is now gone, could be some wild Aspyr supporter spewing nonsense
