Does anyone know if the reverse engineered community edition of FO2 allows non-paletted art yet? I'd like to see the game undithered.

Fallout 1 and 2 could have used more gay sex I think.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

A classic RPG so well designed that 95% of players took small arms and aimed every shot at the eyes

if you enjoyed Fallout: Nevada and want something new, the latest version of the most comprehensive English translation for Fallout: Sonora can be found here:

I liked Fallout 2 a lot more than I thought I would. I wish the last third wasn't so bad though.

The Nevada/Sonora total conversions are very good, likewise ATOM/Trudograd.

Do you need to play Nevada before Senora? And/or are there qol changes that would make playing just Senora worthwhile?
Sonora is considerably more polished than Nevada. Nevada is worth playing, but the stories aren't really connected - so you can play either firstAcrux wrote: β May 1st, 2025, 05:10Do you need to play Nevada before Senora? And/or are there qol changes that would make playing just Senora worthwhile?
My experience with the Deathclaw mother in 1 and Fallout 2 in general is that it's far better to cripple limbs than go for the eyes which will just do more damage but likely not outright kill them for the majority of the game until/unless you choose the perks to make that more likely. Crippling legs makes it harder for them to reach you (unable to move at all if both are crippled), crippling arms makes them unable to use two-handed weapons, significantly lowers accuracy for one-handed weapons if it's the arm holding the weapon, and unable to use weapons at all if both are crippled. Wanamingos and I think some other creatures will even stop attacking you once they have a crippled limb.Oyster Sauce wrote: β May 1st, 2025, 04:34A classic RPG so well designed that 95% of players took small arms and aimed every shot at the eyes
My biggest issue with the Fallouts is that the implementation of stealth gameplay sucks. Whether sneaking or pickpocketing, there's no feedback, and you can just arbitrarily lose your hidden status by failing a roll that's checked frequently. Timbo was obsessed with the the D&D idea that there should always be a 5% chance of failure for everything, which is lousy.
I think talking deathclaws were a cool idea and I don't care that Avellone genocided them in the Fallout Bible. He's a **** rapist you're gonna listen to what he has to say???

Even that isn't as broken as Unarmed at a high skill level.Oyster Sauce wrote: β May 1st, 2025, 04:34A classic RPG so well designed that 95% of players took small arms and aimed every shot at the eyes
After I finished the game I made a new character and cheated to make my character around 15th level with unarmed pumped way up and with useful perks for it.
Then, directly from Arroyo, I wandered southwest into the desert until I started running into Enclave power armor wearing patrols, which I then proceeded to annihilate using the high skill unarmed attacks while taking very little damage because they could hardly hit.
I wore no armor, used no weapons, and had no stimpacks except what I took from their corpses.
I made it all the way to the enclave encampment at Navarro and proceeded to wipe the place out in one go. It wasn't even hard.
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

I tried to play FO1 but the start is extremely slow and the map traveling not really my jam. I don't mind figuring **** for myself and played many old games from the 90s when I was younger but this one is rough !
I'll have to try again sometime.

This is actually not true though, laser is a much better choice in FO1, you can get a laser pistol as early as Necropolis.Oyster Sauce wrote: β May 1st, 2025, 04:34A classic RPG so well designed that 95% of players took small arms and aimed every shot at the eyes

Floating NPPs aren't a new thing. If the nuclear-powered icebreakers and u-boats exist, then why can't we build a floating nuclear reactor for the purposes of sharing energy to remote coastal places?
I'm surprised Japan isn't leading in this field, considering they are an island-based nation.

Rosatom was developing floating npp for Northern Sea Route.wndrbr wrote: β July 18th, 2025, 15:06Floating NPPs aren't a new thing. If the nuclear-powered icebreakers and u-boats exist, then why can't we build a floating nuclear reactor for the purposes of sharing energy to remote coastal places?

Are there any Fallout Tactics total conversions of note?
I know some canadian loon did that one government-funded total conversion, so I mean other than that.

Enclave is the most popular. And Awaken turns it into a Fallout 1 style RPG.rusty_shackleford wrote: β September 13th, 2025, 15:15Are there any Fallout Tactics total conversions of note?

But I think the balancing mods Redux &Equilibrium are better.
It may be worth playing Tactics vanilla once, I don't know, but that Enclave mod looks awesome. I wish it was in the Silent Storm engine.Acrux wrote: β September 13th, 2025, 15:49Enclave is the most popular.
