Have you seen the list of 20 Chinese 3D gacha games? You have all sorts of aesthetics. The unique Genshin and HSR fantasy aesthetics. ZZZ with its 90s punk and casettetape tech. Silver Palace with its late Victorian era feel. Etc.

I do not like any Chinese game that uses anime aesthetic. Bordering upon outright dislike.
Anime is a uniquely Japanese style. Chinese/SK/etc., copying it feels hollow I immediately get the impression that their game itself is just a knockoff of a better product.

****** and ***** didn't really start aping anime aesthetics until recently - look at any of their games from the 90s or 00s and they have a very different art style. They did begin emulating anime afterwards, but the trend seems to be dying down now that their artists are figuring out a baseline artstyle that sets them apart from the nips.

Hero's Adventure is getting a sequel.

https://store.steampowered.com/news?emc ... 5180335217

New Spin-off “Another Hero's Adventure” Coming to Steam!
Hello, adventurers!

Two years have flown by in the blink of an eye. With your company, the Hero’s Adventure project has come a long way. Looking back, the journey has been full of twists and turns, and it’s far from perfect. But thanks to your encouragement, this “late-start indie team” has been given a rare second chance to stand tall in today’s wave of new-generation games.

We are truly grateful to all our fans for following and supporting both me and the Hero series!

For the original Hero’s Adventure, we know there were quite a few shortcomings due to our inexperience. Right from launch, we released frequent updates to expand the game, and later on, although the pace slowed, we continued exploring more content, art, and gameplay through DLCs. Along the way, we gradually realized that some underlying design issues were impossible to fully resolve with just patches. Even when we pinpointed the root causes, changes often risked creating new, uncontrollable problems.

This patch-heavy development model also affected our creative enthusiasm. We wanted to continue exploring the potential of the Hero’s Adventure Saga, so earlier this year we made a big decision:

— It’s time to start a new adventure, one that addresses the regrets of the past!

The new project is officially titled Another Hero's Adventure. As the name suggests, it is a spin-off set in the same world as the original. It remains a one-time purchase game, carrying forward the same spirit of martial arts and heroism, bringing a brand-new adventure full of Jianghu conflicts and personal choices. The game’s Steam page is now live:

Another Hero's Adventure

About the Spin-off
If the original game was a “Jianghu survival simulator,” the spin-off is more like a “martial arts tale” where you are both the protagonist and the author. Freedom and choice remain central, your actions may change other characters’ fates, and even alter the balance of the entire Jianghu.

This new adventure fundamentally fixes legacy issues such as eight-direction movement and character customization. The maps and environments now include more active interactions, like jumping and initiating attacks. Combat has returned to a lighter turn-based system, now featuring three new mechanics: Willpower Combos, Weak Point Guard Break, and Team Attacks, aimed at enhancing both pacing and strategic depth.

The spin-off has been in development for some time. While we don’t yet have a confirmed release schedule, we expect it to meet players in 2026. You can follow development updates and news on our official X/Twitter account and Discord.

Once again, we want to thank every Hero’s Adventure fan who has supported us. We hope this new adventure will continue to walk alongside you on this journey!

Tried a bunch of different combinations, no luck so far in hunting down an actual copy of the game. Biggest issue looking for old ***** games is that nearly all the links are going to be either to Baidu or QQ, which require a ***** mobile phone number to register. I can't even find a Chinese equivalent to MyAbandonware or similar.
Plus, lots of their games are either remakes of older games, a reimagining of the same story or a sequel to a previous game.
I have found 2 that could be a copy, but both are compressed as self extractors, I am not sure if it's legit.

Honkai Star Rail is visually spectacular. I have been playing it every day for five months. Having a lot of fun doing the events and the roguelite Divergent Universe runs due to the character building (hopefully the upcoming Currency Wars gamemode provides more of that). However, the game leaves many things to be desired, and the story delivery is usually mediocre for a 100+ hour long story outside a few moments.

I'll be interested in finding out what you think. I heard that a lot of levels were puzzle like (one correct way to win) which is a pet peeve of mine for tactics games. If you find out otherwise, I'd like to know.

Yeah I've heard that too and it's the one thing I've heard that put me off a little, but apparently it's just a chunk of midgame stealth missions that have that problem. I'm not opposed to looking up a guide for those missions rather than suffering, especially if the story is as good as everyone says and the rest of the gameplay is good. It's quite a long game (80-90 hours iirc)

Pretty soon after launch they changed each of the stealth levels to be completable by going loud and simply fighting the map, the stealth levels being puzzle missions with fairly specific winning moves you'd restart or reload a few times to get right otherwise. I liked the game a lot, but if you don't like stealth missions you will end up doing do some if you want to play the whole game.

I was notified, late last night, that this is now released. Looking at the current "Mixed" Steam reviews, most of the negative English reviews mention poor translations and some class changes from what was in the demo. I also tried reading some translated versions of the non-English reviews, and there was mention of an anti-cheat system that the developers implemented for release.

The demo seemed fun, so I was curious about the release. I'll prob hold off for a bit, though.

Appears them not having pixel-art portraits in the next game upset a lot of people

Q: I prefer the pixel art and pixel UI of the original. Will the new game be very different visually?
We wanted the spin-off to feel visually fresh, so we made some noticeable changes, and of course, opinions have been mixed 😂
We’ve heard all the feedback. For now our top priority is refining the game content itself. Once that’s solid, we’ll look at how art direction, tech limits, and production time can better match what players are hoping for.

Not an RPG but a Chinese studio is working on making a FPS set in the Sino-Japanese war. Very interesting since you almost never see anything that isn't from the Allies' perspective.
