Starfield vs Baldur's Gate 3
This is still pretty abysmal for a Bethesda game.wndrbr wrote: β September 10th, 2023, 15:32Interesting numbers. Usually big games tend to peak early, and then the number of players starts to dwindle. Starfield started low, but now it's slowly rising.

I was expecting this to blow BG3 out of the water day one EA.

People care more about IPs than companies. BG3 is the perfect reverse example of this. The Starfield numbers are fine for a new IP.Shillitron wrote: β September 10th, 2023, 16:41This is still pretty abysmal for a Bethesda game.

Between BG III and Armored Core things can get real rough.
Just like Yves, I chase tales

Turns out there are less degenerates in real life than the internet wants you to think.
Or maybe it's hecking anecdotal evidence. In my circles BG3 is very popular. Doesn't mean anything.Dead wrote: β September 11th, 2023, 09:53Turns out there are less degenerates in real life than the internet wants you to think.

I don't trust cold, hard numbers, just anecdotes and personal experience.Pretty Princess wrote: β September 11th, 2023, 09:57Or maybe it's hecking anecdotal evidence. Starfield is the fifth biggest game launch in Europe this year (so far)
And that is without Game Pass data
Starfield was comfortably No.1 across Europe during its launch week, GSD data shows. The Xbox game, which is also on PC, became the fastest-selling new IP of the year, and the fifth fastest-selling game of the year overall. Its launch sales are ahead of Final Fantasy 16 and Resident Evil 4, but behind Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
The data isn't quite like-for-like, as Starfield was technically available a week earlier for those who purchased the premium edition, so had a few extra days of sales. Starfield was also a day one Xbox Game Pass release, and that data isn't included here, either. The game just about comes ahead of Forza Horizon 5 as the biggest Xbox launch this generation across Europe.

It might sound funny when put like that, but it's basically contending with the likes of Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, Zelda, Call of Duty, GTA etc., so it's arguably selling very well, and likely ballooning Gamepass subscription numbers, and sales are bound to remain steady and see a significant uptick once the mod tools are released.wndrbr wrote: β September 18th, 2023, 11:24https://www.gamesindustry.biz/starfield ... ear-so-far

Games as subscription will ony further insulate devs from players. ****** reviews and poor sales won't matter, because devs only need C O N T E N T to fill the gamer pass e-shop. And when you need a pile of **** fast, who do you call? The dotheads.
Weirdest cracker you know.

In Baldur's Gate 3 I can **** a mindflayer and pet an owlbear cub.
GOTY material for me
The companions are just a bunch of characters that can romance with anyone.
Not the first time Larian did that. Divinity's Original Sin II is very similar in that regard, and I don't recall any uproar about it.
Maybe Larian is just a studio for ******* like myself, or just take bunch of romance-with-any characters from BioWare and multiply it by 6.
It's nice to romance any character without mods tho, so I don't mind. Game's good even without it.
Possibility of romancing anyone is just a bunch of cherries on top of the already delicious cake
What character did you romance?

meanwhile according to Steamspy BG3 has from 10 to 20 million copies sold in Steam alone.
10-20 million is a massive amount of variation where are they even getting those numbers
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

steamspy has access to steam api. 10-20 variation is for the plebs, if you're a patron you can see the exact number.Vergil wrote: β September 20th, 2023, 03:3810-20 million is a massive amount of variation where are they even getting those numbers

It's not really information that you're entitled to, and I would imagine setting up a site like that and maintaining it takes effort, time, and money, so if he wants to give part of it away for free and charge money for other parts that's his business, especially if it keeps the site ad free.
It's utterly pointless to give out such massively vague numbers like "10-20" million. It's literally "it could be this number or double that number". Might as well make it patron only at that point.agentorange wrote: β September 20th, 2023, 04:34It's not really information that you're entitled to, and I would imagine setting up a site like that and maintaining it takes effort, time, and money, so if he wants to give part of it away for free and charge money for other parts that's his business, especially if it keeps the site ad free.

BG3 still hasn't released on Macs iirc. Not that a lot of people use a Mac for games.

Originally steamapi was open for everybody to extract the exact sale numbers. Once SteamSpy became big enough to attract attention, videogame publishers asked Gabe to shut the leak since freely available number of sales may affect stocks and hurt their business. Valve did some obfuscation to make it harder for spies to extract data, but it's still possible - just more resource-intensive.agentorange wrote: β September 20th, 2023, 04:34It's not really information that you're entitled to, and I would imagine setting up a site like that and maintaining it takes effort, time, and money, so if he wants to give part of it away for free and charge money for other parts that's his business, especially if it keeps the site ad free.
By the way, the guy who created SteamSpy is Sergei Galyonkin, Director of Publishing Strategy at Epic Games Store. Obvious corporate espionage.
I mean it's not as if he has some privileged access to the information, correct? If someone else wanted to they could put in the effort to get the obfuscated information and share it? But people would rather use the pre-existing system that this guy made, so he gets to charge money for it. I don't really see an issue.wndrbr wrote: β September 21st, 2023, 06:31Originally steamapi was open for everybody to extract the exact sale numbers. Haven't read the whole thread but...
Starfield is WAY more pozzed and woke than BG3.
(Also a worse game too).
