That thread was removed, RPGHQ is for video games first and bros hanging out second. If you create an account here specifically to discuss politics, you will be asked to leave.

I've likened the HQ to a themed bar before, and I consider something similar would be done if strangers were using the bar specifically to gather to discuss politics rather than say, sports and hanging out with friends.
Time to go @ArcaneFaggot
Rusty has been rather gracious to make this thread specifically for you @Scaliefaggot
But don't push your luck, he doesn't like being told what to do.

RPGHQ was built for the gamer, a haven to complain about Fallout 1 over Fallout 2. Where the fans can rehash old arguments about isometric games. Where the chastised gamer can say ****** in peace. But the parasite comes only to speak of politics. The parasite says "I don't even play video games." and "Video games are for children, grow up." As he makes thousands of posts about current events. Don't be the parasite!
You're so pathetic. It's hilarious how accurate I was about my assessment of why you left, and now you're back and you think you own the place.

Merely listing your Top 5 RPGs could also be a more hassle-free method.
I have done this, but to be honest, I said I don't like Baldurs Gate 1 & 2, and the scalie has never forgotten this. So if you list games that they don't like or are too normie, then you're the same.
At this point, I just outright refuse to play along by getting a badge on a matter of principle. I don't find the idea fun, I hate videogame achievements, I cringe at the thought of going to a thread and begging for a badge, but I don't go around telling people they're stupid for enjoying it.
The badge is neat, but it's more about playing and discussing the games with others.
Also +1 for seeing Fable on your list. Played it recently and it was a fun, surprisingly refreshing little game.

Probably going to end up doing this, would recommend you guys get your badges in order now.
I am not going to do this.
Now I can't do it…
You could just let anyone with any badge in, not just AG badges. That approach would still restrict access while granting some flexibility in how you actually allow entry per user.

Maybe his face proportions or the Sigourney Weaver resemblance.

Do whatever you think is best, but I don't plan on getting any badges. I like playing games on my own schedule for my own enjoyment, and getting a badge for it not only doesn't motivate me, it's anti-motivation. I will neither confirm nor deny whether I've played any of the badgeable games because I wouldn't WANT a badge. I even had a similar problem when I tried to review a game. (This is why I've never tried since.)

I'm happy to discuss video games, and I understand if you want to de-emphasize the politics section, but not everyone likes every game so I think it was inevitable that politics would outweigh gaming for conversation...

Yeah, I tried the Skywind one and the Kotor one and it just wasn't fun. It made it into a chore. It think it put me off playing games, more than it made me want to return to them.
And like Stack, I also like strategy games or action games, which are only included in discussions to take a dump on them, as much as I like RPGs, it was mostly from the era when I played them as a child, and now I have come to realise the flaws in them as well as the political side of things.

The current poll is almost split 50/50, I've flip flopped myself in this thread.
Iirc I decided to make this thread because of new users who seemingly joined just to discuss politics, which was pushing me towards one side. The goal never was to create a site where people join just to discuss political matters and it feels as if the forum is being misused. I just wanted feedback from the regular users on which way we should go forward.

The poll said nothing about having to earn badges to use the site. I also didn't make the realisation/ observation about Tweed until after I voted.
I don't really care very strongly either way about the count of comments, but it could be good if newcomers have to hang around in the videogame sections before moving into other places.
I was actually attracted to this site because I wanted to find mods to make BG3 playable, and even that was something that people here didn't like. So I engaged in political discussions, and now people hate that.
I feel like some people just need to create a discord with their friends and hang around there so they're not exposed to any "hate speech."

I thought the badges thing seemed more reasonable. I dunno what your aversion to it is either way :scratch-pipe:
I think I'm just going to clamp down on users who come here specifically to discuss politics e.g., the guy who made the thread I deleted yesterday. This does fall into "know it when I see it" territory which I dislike for rules.

Trying to force someone to play a game just breeds resentment and like I said it's so easy to fake completing a game anyway. The guild should be a fun voluntary activity making it a chore that must be done kills the spirit of it imo.
And like I said it doesn't matter people will simply make threads in off topic instead
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

You're so pathetic. It's hilarious how accurate I was about my assessment of why you left, and now you're back and you think you own the place.
But I do. I contacted Rusty personally to make this poll just to annoy you. What's hilarious is your over-inflated sense of importance and the delusional perspective of your role in the world. I'd like to remind you that you're here at my pleasure and that no matter what you think or do, you're going to end up dancing to my tune.

So dance.

What are you talking about? Your video game curriculum thread was a neat idea, the fact most of us couldn't come up with good content doesn't mean we were annoyed. If anything I think it speaks to the belief that video game creation is specifically the realm of the auteur - for whatever reason, good games don't seem to come out of industrialized processes. Pivoting from, "here are the techniques that should be used to create a game" to, "here are some universal truths to keep in mind on the odyssey of game dev", might be an interesting move.

The only kinds of discussions I would be interested in, would be in regards to what could be created, the theoretical side of improving gaming, but even then, if you have completely different tastes from everyone else, it feels pointless.
NotAI probably agrees with you. Nevertheless I enjoy reading his continued effortposts.

The back-and-forth on the yesses versus the nos continues to illustrate my point, I think. The people such restrictions are truly aimed at - the 1%, maybe 5%, who are truly toxic and destructive to us - won't be stopped by putting legalistic hurdles in their way. They'll either overcome or subvert them. The only way to deal with them is to shoot them once it's obvious what they are.

I think I'm just going to clamp down on users who come here specifically to discuss politics e.g., the guy who made the thread I deleted yesterday. This does fall into "know it when I see it" territory which I dislike for rules.
Is simply the best way to do it. No one wants to do it like that, least of all Rusty, because no one wants to be the guy that put a bullet in XXXForumShitPoster420XXX's head when xe wouldn't take the hint and move on. But every town needs a Judge, whether the town likes it or not. Whether the Judge likes it or not.

You can just say @Vergil it's okay
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

I don't understand why anyone would want to come here to discuss politics when you can pretty much say whatever you want on twitter as long as you don't say ****** or make explicit calls for violence. There's a bigger audience there too. I post in the Trump thread sometimes, but that's mostly to get out of my echo chamber whereas these posters seem to be looking for one.

But it's a double edge sword. You're always going to be a small fish in a huge pond there. Most tweets will be farted out into the ether never to be read by a single soul.
