Uh, it's been known that they went to Hatteras Island the whole time. They carved "Croatoan", the contemporary name of the island, into a wooden palisade before leaving, and although nobody got around to checking in on them there for years, the natives there were known for generations afterward to have suspiciously fair-skinned blue-eyed members. I've read books from before I was born that affirm that everyone always assumed that they went there and joined the native population.

Saying that we only just now "found evidence" of it when it's been common knowledge forever is a redditor-tier "SOURCE???" argument.

There's not really a racial angle on it (especially since it involves whites assimilating INTO a native tribe) so everyone pretty much agreed and accepted it until it started to be popular to make it a "woooo mystery~".

I remember learning about it in school in the 80s and even as a kid thinking that conspiracies about what could have happened to them were braindead stupid.
