little known fact but the FNV remake is already done, exactly one copy of it exists and it's in Todd's office behind a piece of glass labeled "BREAK GLASS IN CASE OF EMERGENCY"

Yeah but I mean more in terms of this is giving them some sort of return on investment for buying bethesda. It finally did something nice and successful. Not to mention the huge PR nightmare if they tried to detach bethesda from the IP. The Bethesda pedigree is a part of the marketing and value of the TES games imo.rusty_shackleford wrote: β May 29th, 2025, 03:28Yea but microsoft could have done it without bethesda, they own the IPs nowVergil wrote: β May 29th, 2025, 03:27Pretty sure the slopmaster sold an incredible amount of money and was a pretty big success. this may satisfy the shareholders and a bunch of gamers who don't know how things being done. But imagine being the guy who runs Xbox. Would this satisfy you? You just spent an ungodly amount of money to purchase a company. And then that company immediately goes to ****, refuses to produces anything worthwhile, and tries to mask its impotency by outsourcing.Vergil wrote: β May 29th, 2025, 03:30Yeah but I mean more in terms of this is giving them some sort of return on investment for buying bethesda. they can always keep the brand while firing most of the staff except for Todd Howard and perhaps a bunch of specialists who know how to support their tech. That would be the correct thing to do, which means MS will definitely not going to do that.Vergil wrote: β May 29th, 2025, 03:30Not to mention the huge PR nightmare if they tried to detach bethesda from the IP. I mean isn't that basically what bethesda has done to themselves anyway? Who is even left besides like, Todd and Emil?wndrbr wrote: β May 29th, 2025, 03:37they can always keep the brand while firing most of the staff except for Todd Howard and perhaps a bunch of specialists who know how to support their tech. they actually have a very low turnover. Starfield's pre-release video with the devs giving interviews had names that I remember seeing in Morrowind's credits.Vergil wrote: β May 29th, 2025, 03:39I mean isn't that basically what bethesda has done to themselves anyway? I don't really know enough to argue that I just know there was some guy who was apparently a big quest designer who quit Bethesda like right after Starfield released iircwndrbr wrote: β May 29th, 2025, 03:42they actually have a very low turnover. yeah that was a guy with a chinese name, he became famous as their big quest designer after headlining Fo4 Far Harbor expansion (which had shockingly good writing when compared to Beth' prior games). He wasn't fired, he probably realized where things are going and decided to abandon the sinking ship. Or maybe he just got burnt out due to Starfield's production being messy.Vergil wrote: β May 29th, 2025, 03:43I don't really know enough to argue that I just know there was some guy who was apparently a big quest designer who quit Bethesda like right after Starfield released iircwndrbr wrote: β May 29th, 2025, 03:42they actually have a very low turnover. Producer is basically a nu-title now for a mix of project manager and ops (not in the IT sense). I've only seen people early in career with that title.
Still shameful.

The Codex will now love Morrowind.

Yeah Bethesda's big problem isn't that devs left, it's that they went from slow growth with 40 devs for Morrowind, 70 for Oblivion, 90 for Fallout 3 and Skyrim and 110 for Fallout 4 to over 500 for Starfield.wndrbr wrote: β May 29th, 2025, 03:42they actually have a very low turnover. According to Shen and Brigner, the sheer number of people working on a game across different studios can cause problems. "It's more difficult than ever to know who does what, who you're supposed to report to," Brigner said. A fractured team can also create a "silo effect," where "every department is scrambling for resources and saying 'no' to collaboration requests," said Shen. This can lead to the "inadvertent consequence of favoring the department" over the needs of the game, as well as slowing even basic collaboration between departments to a crawl.
"Every request now has to go through all the producers because we needed to check all of the contingent work," Shen said. "Asking for something as simple as a chair wasn't so simple. Do you need animations for it? Do you need sound effects for it? How much does that add to the schedule, can it not fit because one of those teams does not have the time?"

Sometimes I'll talk to people who played skyrim and all they did was just walk around. Genuine npcs, we should populate a game with them for the rest of us to enjoy.

I mean tbf, exploration is the strongest part of the game, World design was Bethesda strong suit until they ****** that up in Starfield toorusty_shackleford wrote: β June 29th, 2025, 23:29Sometimes I'll talk to people who played skyrim and all they did was just walk around.
