2FA disabled

Post by rusty_shackleford »

I don't know why I still had it enabled, but it has been disabled.

2FA is a placebo unless you're using something like a yubikey.
You should be using a strong, generated password kept in a password store for all your logins. I use https://keepassxc.org/ along with its browser plugin. Because the database for it is encrypted you can back it up anywhere to keep it safe.

I remember 2FA being the straw that made me leave Codex forever in like mid 2023...

Great point! 2FA definitely adds an extra layer of security, but relying on a hardware key like a Yubikey or using a strong password manager like KeePassXC is essential for real security. Password managers not only help you generate strong passwords but also store them securely, making it way easier to stay safe online.

I use those regularly, one of the benefits of having a compose key.

Yeah, they're great and all. But I've observed that AI uses it A LOT. So when you see turd worlders who use lots of emdashes it's an obvious tell.

I've never seen any of you use them. And taking a glance at your recent posts proves you don't really use them much, if at all. So there.

It is. It increases, rather than decreases, the attack surface on your account.

I think for high value accounts like Steam or Amazon it's worth turning on. But other than that it's a waste of time and energy.

Isn't a password store just a way to lose all of your passwords at once?

Like keeping your passport and birth certificate in your wallet.
