WotR companion lineup is so bad that it was a major factor in me quitting after a handful of hours in.

In the OG adventure Aravashnial was just the stereotypical "smart elf wizard" who wasn't really bad perse but wasn't outstanding either.mercerxiv wrote: β April 2nd, 2025, 22:30The riftwarden sounds like would make a better party member (or at least more interesting than a bunch of mongrels)
I would describe him as vanilla basic as far as RPG companions go, which now that I think about it, I would assume that that was the reason why Owlcat felt like replacing him as the party's wizard with annoying kitsune, which I would admit was a downgrade of sorts.
To me what makes the WotR companions - both in the original Paizo adventure and the Owlcat computer adaptation - not so great is that there are no decent Good-aligned ones amongst them.rusty_shackleford wrote: β April 2nd, 2025, 22:49WotR companion lineup is so bad that it was a major factor in me quitting after a handful of hours in.
LG are girlboss paladins, NG are all *******, and the only CG ones are a slut who decided to stop ******* everything she saw and the misotheistic elf girl from the Owlcat adaptation.
Everyone else is a shade of neutral or evil because apparently the idea of the demonic Abyss being opposed by a party of true heroes is "boring".
Tbh in modern day cRPGs I'll take boring vanilla over quirky degenerate.UltraFan123 wrote: β April 2nd, 2025, 22:51In the OG adventure Aravashnial was just the stereotypical "smart elf wizard" who wasn't really bad perse but wasn't outstanding either.mercerxiv wrote: β April 2nd, 2025, 22:30The riftwarden sounds like would make a better party member (or at least more interesting than a bunch of mongrels)

I like sugar, and I like tea.
Yeah, agree. I didn't really like any of the Good characters for that exact reason. It usually comes with the "believes in progressive values" package, because why of course it does - it's the ultimate virtue.UltraFan123 wrote: β April 2nd, 2025, 23:02To me what makes the WotR companions - both in the original Paizo adventure and the Owlcat computer adaptation - not so great is that there are no decent Good-aligned ones amongst them.rusty_shackleford wrote: β April 2nd, 2025, 22:49WotR companion lineup is so bad that it was a major factor in me quitting after a handful of hours in.

Lasted longer than I did. I managed to get to the little underground freakish mutant camp and that already ended it for me. How far in is that? 10 minutes?rusty_shackleford wrote: β April 2nd, 2025, 22:49WotR companion lineup is so bad that it was a major factor in me quitting after a handful of hours in.
Aside from the other obvious issues with girl bosses, is that here I am playing a female character as a woman... and the last **** thing I want to see is a string of girl bosses in the first 10 minutes of the stupid game!!! Where the hell are the men!??

Agreed. That game is a ******* disgrace with the characters on offer. The fact that it essentially prevents you from creating your own too makes it even more annoying.rusty_shackleford wrote: β April 2nd, 2025, 22:49WotR companion lineup is so bad that it was a major factor in me quitting after a handful of hours in.
Owlcat can go **** themselves, they're pure decline.
Granted you can always create mercenaries but they're obviously never going to be the same.
Also, a properly min-maxed mercenary may or may not crush your game all the time, so I'm pretty sure Owlcat made their mercenary system as an after-thought, which sucks a lot.

I'm pretty sure that the mercenary system in Owlcat's Pathfinder games was simply made to forcefully silence anyone who spoke up about their bad companions.
"You don't like the vanilla companions? Just make your own!"
For some years I have been saying now that if Owlcat had put in the effort to make their games more akin to the custom campaign creation of the NWN games - or hell even like BG3 in the latest versions - then far more people would've enjoyed their games.

I really don't see a difference in quality among companions with Owlcat, Larian, and Bioware. BG3 has hirelings as well, it's just one of those expected features in party-based RPGs for people who want to mess around with specific combinations.UltraFan123 wrote: β April 23rd, 2025, 23:30I'm pretty sure that the mercenary system in Owlcat's Pathfinder games was simply made to forcefully silence anyone who spoke up about their bad companions.

Making new companions costs a bomb in WOTR, too much to be able to make a full squad until far too late into the game.Oyster Sauce wrote: β April 23rd, 2025, 20:26You can make and respec custom companions very easilyFalksi wrote: β April 23rd, 2025, 14:34Agreed. Majority of story related encounters and overall game narrative is pretty much women centric. Your closest advisors are a big orc lesbian women and her ****** wife, your main quest giver is a warrior/superpowered queen without a husband or family, main baddies are two women too entire game story revolves around them. Plus last scene before credits you interact with a goddess, again a women.Nessa wrote: β April 10th, 2025, 18:40Lasted longer than I did. Something that is worth noticing is that WotR was adapting a tabletop adventure path that was released in 2012, roughly 13 years ago, and yes the OG adventure path is as gynocentric as the CRPG is.
It goes to show how far back has the woke mind virus been trying to spread and invade game spaces.

People will say that the subversion only really started 10 to 15 years ago, and then conveniently ignore how much the token ****** character and strong wahmen were being forced upon audiences in the 1980s and 1990s, and even earlier.UltraFan123 wrote: β May 14th, 2025, 08:14It goes to show how far back has the woke mind virus been trying to spread and invade game spaces.
I still remember Captain Planet, which wouldn't look out of place in the 2020s.

Wheeler wouldn't be the lead character anymore, and would be a completely different character altogether(weaker, often wrong, possibly even a villain)gerey wrote: β May 14th, 2025, 09:19I still remember Captain Planet, which wouldn't look out of place in the 2020s.

You're being too much of a boomer - interracial heterosexual relationships with a manly ****** are last decade. The currently in vogue trend is to emasculate all men, and have the White woman be in a relationship with a sheboon with the woke haircut.rusty_shackleford wrote: β May 14th, 2025, 09:25also the black guy would be in a relationship with linka who would be swedish now
Exactly. That's boring as hell if you're a woman playing a woman character.gastovski wrote: β May 14th, 2025, 08:09Majority of story related encounters and overall game narrative is pretty much women centric. That ******** woman that cost Budlight billions of dollars and probably killed the company in the long run has landed herself another cushy corporate job, proving once again that the main qualification to land a well-paying job in the Western corporate sphere is all about proving your Marxist zealotry.

Does anyone know any anti woke games? Specifically ones that either punish vagbosses or keep women in their place, in their traditional role.
I don't hate women, I love women, that's why I think every man should own several
