Why aren't skateboarding games as popular as they used to be during the PS1 era? What’s the reason for this?
Does anyone know of an easy way to mod GOG Skyrim on Linux?.

There's now a Nexus Mods app for Linux that helps download and install mods from the site.KnightoftheWind wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 05:04Does anyone know of an easy way to mod GOG Skyrim on Linux?.
I know of it, unfortunately it's in an Alpha state and only supports Stardew Valley and Cyberpunk 2077.Nemesis wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 11:34There's now a Nexus Mods app for Linux that helps download and install mods from the site.KnightoftheWind wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 05:04Does anyone know of an easy way to mod GOG Skyrim on Linux?.

The AI Director is a different mechanic than the rubberbanding and level scaling you're talking about, it dynamically populates enemies in front of you to keep the game exciting, sending special enemies and bosses to keep you in the action reaching a point where it sends a horde after you. Afterwards it calms down for a bit but then it starts back up again, you can read more about it here https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/apps/va ... _booth.pdfHavitner wrote: ↑ May 7th, 2025, 20:48traxtan wrote: ↑ May 7th, 2025, 15:48More and more games need to have systems like L4D2's "AI Director" that keeps the game fun and exciting. Too many games are boring slogs with 5 mins of nothing happening, 5 minutes of cutscenes and 2 mins of combat.

Hate that stuff. Hate it in racing games, hated it in L4D, hated it in HL2, hated it in Oblivion.
I want to measure myself against a challenge, and improve until I can overcome it.
Scaling and rubberbanding are like a barbell that magically adjusts its own weight so that it's always 'an appropriate challenge' to lift, whether you're a scrawny DYEL or a weathered picker-upper-putter-downer. You can never get an accurate sense of your progression and mastery, because the obstacle you're trying to overcome will lower itself if you suck, or grow taller if you're excelling.
No easy way. Definitely possible though, plenty of people have done it and left instructions behind.KnightoftheWind wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 05:04Does anyone know of an easy way to mod GOG Skyrim on Linux?.

Alien: Isolation has a similar system in place. It actually has two separate AIs, the xenomorph one that "learns" based on how you play, and the director that determines when the alien should appear and disappear to keep the tension high.traxtan wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 11:42The AI Director is a different mechanic than the rubberbanding and level scaling you're talking about, it dynamically populates enemies in front of you to keep the game exciting, sending special enemies and bosses to keep you in the action reaching a point where it sends a horde after you. I would wager its for the same reason "skating" as a sport or sport-like activity is less popular now than in that time frame. Is just not in "vogue" with the normie cattle anymore. With the advent of social media and smartphones, everything moving more and more into digital and virtual spaces, skating is just less of a draw.psychic_dream wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 00:05Why aren't skateboarding games as popular as they used to be during the PS1 era? What’s the reason for this?
It was always niche, but Tony Hawk was like the rockstar of skating and became popular enough that his brand and name alone was able to be a big draw, that's why the most popular franchise is called "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater". Additionally, that franchise did the "Guitar Hero" thing and ran itself to the ground by essentially producing the same thing over and over with minimal graphical upgrades and new features.
"But FIFA and Madden do that every year!" sure, but those are huge, huge sports that are popular around the world. That crowd has demonstrated to the corpos that they will pay for a yearly roster update every year and will do so with a smile on their faces. Skating is galaxies away from that level of popularity and always has been.
Basically, it had its time under the sun and now that time has passed. Sure, an indie game could produce a "tony hawk pro skater-like" and make some money but it will most likely never be a 'thing' again like it was in those years.
Young Yea is one of the worst VA I ever heard , him VA Kazuma Kiryu was utter dogshit and for the life of me I don’t know why they replaced Darryl Kurylo because he was as good as one can get for a English dub as Kiryu.

I think I have only heard him voice Arios in Trails into Reverie, which felt odd because he sounded so incredibly young when Arios is a father of a teenager and in his late 30s or 40s.

Who would play these games with the English dub?

I do because I don’t ever use subs for JRPG’s.

Then enjoy your Yong Yea. I think specially Yakuza which is extremely Japanese and with the more realistic graphics, doesn't really work with any other language.
That’s very true. Still no interest in subs, so I guess have bite down on the pillow and bare through pain until it’s over with the dub.Cipher wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 19:30I think specially Yakuza which is extremely Japanese and with the more realistic graphics, doesn't really work with any other language.

Wiki says:
I'll concede that the L4D2 director also does other things. While I don't dislike those things anywhere near as much as I do pity heals and the like, I'm always wary of hidden meta-level game mechanics that skulk and connive behind the scenes. The Director is still capable of changing items based on the team's performance; for example, if they are low on health, it may spawn health kits nearby at the pre-placed spawn points.
The sole exception is Pain Pills, where the Director will put them in first aid cabinets. The Director will change this to either Medkits (if survivors are on low health, but not in black and white) or Defibrillators if someone is about to die, especially on Advanced or lower difficulty.
Proud creator of the Stardew Valley Cuckoldry Removal Service mod.
I didn't even know he VA another role. Can't imagine playing any game with that **** being in it. It's not only his terrible performance, he is also an absolute ******* about it.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 17:51I think I have only heard him voice Arios in Trails into Reverie, which felt odd because he sounded so incredibly young when Arios is a father of a teenager and in his late 30s or 40s.

Sure I get that, you like handcrafted experiences and set difficulty levels. The system is just a way to keep the game interesting and replayable having you get a different experience each time you play, while giving the players moments of reprieve with healing items and quiet periods. For the meta stuff it's really unavoidable, anyone can look up a guide and know exactly what to do and ruin the game for themselves and others.Havitner wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 19:56I'll concede that the L4D2 director also does other things. The wingsuit stuff in Steep is pretty fun. Wish the multiplayer was still alive or the successor wasn't so much more arcadey.

While I enjoyed Steep, I enjoyed Riders Republic's min-to-min gameplay more (despite the absolutely cringeworthy and forced story). I thought the "player ghost" concept was a neat way to implement the multiplayer aspect. That said, I understand people liking Steep more. Esp given the aforementioned forced story.DrSneed wrote: ↑ May 9th, 2025, 07:14The wingsuit stuff in Steep is pretty fun. Is Deathloop any good?
Debeli ronaldo, ja san debeli ronaldo, jedini pravi ronaldo
Play the Mooncrash expansion to Prey. It's the same concept but done much better.

I'm surprised that RPGHQ isn't excited about the latest Doom game. I only played the soft reboot on the original Xbox, and it looked and played quite differently from what people usually associate with the Doom IP.
Why would you expect a RPG-focused forum to be excited about a corridor shooter?psychic_dream wrote: ↑ May 9th, 2025, 15:49I'm surprised that RPGHQ isn't excited about the latest Doom game. I myself was excited to see it at first, but I skimmed through the trailer after seeing that the guy's face is visible (even if somewhat) which I see as a great negative. When I then saw "big boss evil dude" and dialogue/story, I checked out and have no longer any interestpsychic_dream wrote: ↑ May 9th, 2025, 15:49I'm surprised that RPGHQ isn't excited about the latest Doom game.
