People seemed to have conjured up grandiose ideas that were probably never even considered during the actual game's development. This was never going to be an MMO-like experience with massive, living worlds to explore and thousands of NPCs to do menial sidequests for, or massive space battles with hundreds of online players fighting amongst each other.. It's a single-player Bethesda RPG using the Creation Engine. If you were expecting something else, you were inevitably going to be disappointed long before the first teaser.
Reminder that during covid years basically everyone ****** off from work during "WFH" policies.. You got 1/5th the labor out of people across the board. This game wasn't delayed this long because they were "building so much cool stuff" it took this long because devs were being lazy ******* and didn't put in even an 8 hour work day until corporations got ****** off and **** canned it.
The only silver lining here is that corporations want to make money and the tech industry is going through a massive labor crunch and laying ****** employee's off in droves, so maybe Elder Scrolls 6 will actually have hard work put into it again.. but who knows.
I would care a lot less about how **** this is turning out to be if it hadn't been 8 years since Fallout 4, which also wasn't very good. It will end up being a 15+ year break from TES just to produce two poor-to-mediocre games.

Todd's punishment will be severe if this game doesn't meet Xbox's sky-high sales expectations. He will be in the Elder Scrolls sweatshop for years to come!.

Don't forget that Bethesda's Starfield team had to switch gears for 6 - 8 months to wipe Fallout 76's *** as well.
We've basically had to wait over 10 years for an elder scrolls game with nothing to show for it, other than this cold wet garbage.
Along with all of IGN's other foibles, they're also paid to give Xbox games worse scores. Unironically. They also do other things like leave Xbox logos off game promotional materials in order to make people think the game won't come out on the platform.

What people expected was a Skyrim plus, and something one bar higher than No Man's Sky.
