I think they tilted the storytelling heavily towards the stormcloaks in the game because they were worried no player would ever pick them.

I think the reason is because all of the major introductory events make you want to fight the Empire. Not just when you create your character at the start of the game, but when you also visit towns like Solitude where the very first thing that happens is that a guy is being escorted to his execution, and that is your moment to be a hero and get up on stage and save him. There are no other major introductory events like that in the game that make you want to fight against the Stormcloaks. I think some Nords in Windhelm badmouth some elves for a few seconds, and then everyone carries on with their day.

This isnt true, the empire is America, and the stormcloaks are basically lefties. The Thalmor are the ****.

The Nords didnt resist the empires colonization, they actually welcomed it by most accounts, it brought civilization to their lands.

Thats mostly been my experience in Elder Scroll RP servers. I actually played a Nord for one season, and the poor dude was conflicted, because his own people had forgotten their past and were all too happy to serve the empire, while to most the stormcloaks struggle was gay as ****.

Altmer are spiritual **** who hate the world they live in because they will never be their zased ancestor spirits. They have never been a force of good in TES, and why the Chimer got sick of their **** and went east. So I agree with this assessment.

If we're going off the old examples of Nords, they would not have so happily submitted to the Empires customs. The entire theme of Morrowind is the Empire's imperialism and its ruthless assimilation of the provinces into its culture. Tiber Septim was a conquerer, not a diplomat. MK's original lore for the Nords was showcasing them as a people who had no desire or respect for other religions, and their own faith was just based on ensuring the end of the world didn't come sooner than it already was. They viewed themselves as eternal invaders with no kinship to the other races.

Then, all of a sudden in TES Skyrim, every single nord is fine with the Nine Divines. There is no attempt to even depict the truly "old ways" Nords, even the most traditionalist Nord you meet in the game is a progressive. You could argue that this is Bethesda showing us that the Empire has truly pacified Skyrim and repressed its ancient culture. I don't believe the game ever goes that far, however.

The Stormcloaks are watered down nationalists, just based enough to appeal to chuds but not based enough to do their duty of cleansing lesser foreigners from their lands. Still, I'd choose them over the Empire any day.

You could, but you could argue that they truly did benefit from the empire. They brought riches to the land, they did improve the lives of pretty much everyone there. And they were allowed to keep worshiping Ymir, as he was believed to be Talos.

End of the day im not too clear on why it was so easily accepted, but the game says they were.

Only thing close to an argument empiretards have is a letter. There's no evidence to back up what the letter says, and it could have been flat out disinformation purposely planted there. Nothing suggests he's ever a sleeper agent.

OTOH:
Empire is incredibly weak. They rely almost entirely on nords for their military at this point.
Tying back into that point, the redguards seceded from the empire and continued to fight the Aldmeri to a stalemate and secured a treaty on their own terms, by themselves.
The empire willingly accepted a treaty that placed undue burdens specifically on the one peoples that made up the bulk of their fighting forces in the war.
The empire is crumbling, there is nothing to gain from staying in it. They couldn't defeat the Aldmeri with a larger, more powerful empire — why would a weaker one protect them?


The story is written so in favor of the Nords that anyone actually pro-Empire is just being a contrarian or connects it to real life issues and therefore opposes the nords because "muh nazis"

What annoys me is I think Ulfric is a bad leader. Dragons appear and until the Dragonborn forces him to the table, he still wants to focus on the civil war. Wish we could make Jarl Ballin the leader.

For me the poll's question is inseparable from the fact there is a Dragonborn and he is a big, ******* deal. Skyrim doesn't need a dum dum High King, it needs a godlike person that will unite Skyrim, then the Empire.
