The melee combat and sounds look like you hit rubber people, thats certainly something for modders and almost no weight to weapons.

Seems like they do use the oblivion data files somehow, but that's the extent of it. So it's maybe moddable.

[edit]
Hard to tell tho.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but I was thinking: back in the Web 2.0 days—forums, blogs, early YouTube—was this same persistent negativity and apathy toward the gaming industry already there? Or is that a more recent trend we've somehow become trapped in, like a loop we can’t seem to break?
No, it was not there.

Up until around 2010, the expectation was that entertainment was all around getting better (on a technical level). You went from silent movies, to the Golden age of Hollywood black & white movies, to color movies, to Star Wars blockbusters with insane production values, and then the Star Wars prequel trilogy revolutionized movies with CGI and the modern CGI blockbuster formula that movies now follow, and then Avatar happened and that was another landmark. TV was likewise getting better and better, first with 90s sci fi television and then Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Same thing was happening with games where there had been a leap from small 2D sprites on the SNES to 3D on the PS1 and then even higher fidelity 3D on the PS2. Around 2010 you started getting games that looked like those "prestigious" movies like Mass Effect, Uncharted, Last of Us, Halo, etc. Now I didn't enjoy these popular games but everyone else on the forums and youtube comments sections I frequented thought things were generally good and getting better. It was not until into the 2010s that the tide began to turn, I think around Halo 4's release and Mass Effect 3's ending. That's when internet discourse began to sour.

The last time I tried Oblivion it was crashing all over the place. I doubt the remake will be any different.
Played about 2 hours so far and no crash yet. Probably jinxed it by saying it now tho
Thoughts so far?
Runs smooth so far, gameplay is fine too, graphics are ok but the facial animations are sometimes a bit off, in terms of lip synch.

It looks like an online MMO more than Oblivion to me, at least from the screenshots (reminds me of Elder Scrolls Online actually!).
Anyone knows if the Dunmer male gets Valen Dreth commenting on exiting early form prison to "keep your wife company"? With them adding "bodytype", I can believe that line would be removed.

This remaster thing reminded me of one of my biggest issues with modern gaming: the obsession with photorealism at the cost of everything else. The NPC interactions, lip-syncing, and sprinting animations all feel uncanny and awkward, making the experience feel disjointed and unnatural.

Games like GTA IV, Skyrim, and others from that era, while also pushing for realistic visuals, still kept a unique game-like charm. Their exaggerated ragdoll physics, clunky yet strangely endearing animations, and over-the-top mechanics contributed to a cohesive, immersive atmosphere that felt harmoniously integrated with their engines, lighting, and graphical limitations.

if... or when, it becomes moddable, Todster won't have to publish TES6 until 2035. It may be for the better. :pipe-thinking:

Oh yeah, it does remind me of ESO which is by no means a bad thing, I think on one hand it looks good but also very disturbing, kek.
I checked, and they still have it in the game.

Does the console work? And if you can check do the legendary items like the shield of chorrol and few others still have different version depending on the level you are when u do the quest? That was one of the worst things in Oblivion. Finish some quests too early and you get a crap artifact, do it 20 levels later and you get a shield with 30-40% reflect damage.

This alone makes me at least want to pirate it, thank you for sharing  (edit for clarification as I missed to add the subject, I was afraid their "bodytype" nonsense would go very deep and remove and change dialogue, if i'ts "just" character creation makes it at least playable from then forward, they do not deserve a cent, they conciously made the change)
And indeed, would love to see more of the forests if you have screens of them (especially if there are any flowers, would love to see if they have the same feel or what kind of feel do they have now  ).

That's... unexpected to say the least. Those console commands are a hallmark of the Creation Engine, and this is UE5. They actually bothered to carry that over to the new engine?

Fog was used as a technical limitation in older games, I have no idea why newer games insist upon using it, especially to such a degree.
Have these people ever actually gone out to an area with rolling hills? There isn't a persistent layer of gas on everything.

I think it's supposed to be distance fog to help you judge distances. It looks weird in screenshots due to the scale, since there isn't a mountain range 10 miles in the background which is when the distance fog should be kicking in.
