I don't see any applications of it in RPGs. How do you see it?
It's there to spruce up the gameplay a bit. Nier Automata has a few bullet hell sections, but that's more of an action game than an RPG. Final Fantasy XIV had a boss (Byakko) with a bullet hell phase.

Interesting! I always thought of bullet hells as 2D games but this way it may work too. Now I want 3D bullet hell game with flying like in one of those cool Touhou animations.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ April 17th, 2025, 16:44Final Fantasy XIV had a boss (Byakko) with a bullet hell phase.
Very transgender genre
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

I do appreciate bullet hell more when it's just part of an enemy's weapon repertoire, and not an entire game dedicated the concept. Nier Automata did this well, and so did Furi.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ April 17th, 2025, 16:44It's there to spruce up the gameplay a bit. Hmm I feel like there's already some games that are quasi 3D bullet hell. May it be the mecha games?Tadeusz wrote: ↑ April 17th, 2025, 16:59Interesting! It is only worthy of being a palate cleanser. It is more fun when it is bombastic than demanding pixel perfect input.
I don't view this as a terribly interesting game in and of itself, especially with modern graphics that adds so much obnoxious visual noise that you can't even tell what the game is anymore.
Comment. I also started thinking on this because of Nier: Automata.
It made me think: what if somebody put bullet hell mechanics in more things, like in something Daggerfall-ish?
That's a good way to make some monsters or casters much more powerful. Rather than just making items do less dmg against something higher level.

I don't see it in Daggerfall but I can imagine it in Diablo-likes.NotAI wrote: ↑ April 17th, 2025, 23:01It made me think: what if somebody put bullet hell mechanics in more things, like in something Daggerfall-ish?
Also, I have an idea about bullet hell mechanics - what if they are used by players in PVP in action-oriented MMOs? Range classes can have something like spell cards that they could set up themselves in some sort of editor and then activate them when they acquired enough battle points. It may add some variety to PVP.
