If you asked me to name a good female VA I'd completely blank. I suspect most would name jennifer hale just because she voices most characters but I never thought she was particularly good or memorable.

The problem with good VAs is they're unique, and therefore I don't want to hear them outside of that role. e.g., Solid Snake or Geralt's VAs are character defining. If someone can do a bunch of voices, they're probably all pretty mediocre.
Laura Bailey, Amelia Tyler, Mary O'Brady, Courtenay Taylor, Ashley Johnson and Melissa Hutchison had pretty decent to good VA performances.
This is the redditiest reddit take one can have on this topic.

I know there was some dissing here on Kimberly Brooks a while back, but I thought she was pretty good as Angie in Trails of Cold Steel (inb4 "she's black voicing a white character!" Well yes, that's the point of voice acting, you are mixing and matches voices and character designs. Nobody complains about James Earl Jones voicing Darth Vader).
Don’t why people would complain about her since Kimberly VA has always been pretty solid.

I agree that modern voice acting for the most part suffers from too many characters voiced by the same person.

Japanese VA for anime also has a similar issue.

With any industry there is going to be a market cap and this a limit to how many people can make a living participating in it. Yeah, English is the biggest language and you could have any one of millions of people break out their microphone or walk into a booth and do a one off recording, but only a few will be willing to do it regularly. Doing voice acting often becomes a job unto itself as you would have to be constantly submitting audio files for audition or keeping up with what's going on with the companies/current projects, etc. It becomes like a job except you are probably not going to be able to stay afloat by doing it, which means you are filtering down to people who already have jobs and are willing to spend their limited free time on voice acting as a hobby. That's not many people. Admittedly there is gatekeeping involved as seen from the fallout of the Vic Mignogna fiasco where you have most anime dubbing going through two offices in California and Texas where if you are a Christian or don't parrot the right rhetoric, you will find yourself impeded or barred. But overall the market situation is probably why you hear the same voices over and over.

Japanese voice actors apparently get paid much, much more money than Americans, so I am not sure why there might be a limited talent pool there. Perhaps because Japanese isn't spoken by several different large countries but instead by just one country, so the total amount of people who would be interested in doing it is much lower.

Semi-regular work as a voice actor is comparable to an above-average job in America. When there are complaints about voice acting it is relative to what an actual movie star makes, but nobody takes that seriously. Just as we would ignore a taxi driver complaining they don't get the respect and salary of an F1 driver.

Voice actor guild rates are $550/hour or $1100 for 4 hours. And you can't ask them to work an 8 hour day.

Voice acting is a gig, not a stable job. VAs aren't employees contractually obligated to a wage, so there is no guarantee that they are working every day. It's like musicians who gigged at bars and restaurants. Yeah, getting $500 for a couple hours sounds mindblowing to people at first, but then once you realize they aren't able to find a gig every day and all of this other work they have to do like practicing or trying to "network" with people in the hopes of finding their next gig, you do the final cost calculations and realize they aren't making much more than minimum wage, if that. Crispin Freeman and Matt Mercer on their podcasts have laid out the reality that unless you are the very top like Troy Baker, you just aren't going to have a comfortable salary and are likely going to have to work another job to stay afloat, which means you really have to be going through all of this time and hassle because you like voice acting. And if the voice acting unions were reliable enough, then you wouldn't see so many guild VAs working on non-union projects under a pseudonym. And right now with the Genshin Impact drama where the Union went on strike for a year and now Mihoyo has given up and is starting to recast people with VAs from other countries, it has been exposed that English voice acting union can't corner the English voice acting industry when there are too many English voice actors outside of the US who can fill a role for cheaper.

A union is useless when your profession is easily outsourced? Who could have guessed? The Zenimax union is going to learn this the hard way.

Nah, that's loser mentality.

Voice acting is great money for a housewife. Especially if she has a good enough recording setup at home and can literally phone in her performances.

Apparently VA isn't stable. But also the same VAs appear in everything. Derp.

Being cast as a recurring character is a form of job security. Not being a diva when it comes to working with other people results in callbacks. An ounce of personality results in appearance fees at conventions.

As we learned from the whole Vic thing, these voice actors never wanted to put in the effort or travel required to make money on the convention circuit until he showed them exactly how to do it by selling headshots, etc. If they actually worked full-time hours at being a minor celebrity they would be doing extremely well compared to a 'normal' job by attending a convention each week and recording between them.

Major issue with English VAs is if you hire one SAG actor, you must hire all SAG actors. A bunch of games have poor English voicework because someone wanted one specific VA then it would bloat the budget to get a large VA cast.
Elder scrolls online recycles a handful of VAs for this reason, but the German version has way more variety in VAs.

This is the text, verbatim, with all the wonky phrasing, multiple grammar violations, multiple basic punctuaton mistakes, and other stupid mistakes intact:

Account Banned - Ultraporing
has been banned from Nexus Mods for violating our community rules.

Reason
Posting an intentionally-antagonistic mod with intention to evade the rules. the mod altered the "body types" the Oblivion Remake from "1" and "2" to "male" and "female".
While the modification itself is not inherently a problem, the intention of the author is the problem.
When a user reported that they had archived a mod on a website dedicated to archiving TOS-breaking content on Nexus Mods and other modding websites with a particular focus on bigotry, the author replied: "Awesome, thanks for picking up on my intentions 07"
From our File Submission Guidelines: "Files that remove gender identity including pronouns from a game that have been intentionally put in place by a game developer, when the removal is clearly to be divisive or to cause hostility within the community or marginalize specific group(s)."

Notice the multiple elements of recursive hypocrisy on display.
Is the mod a problem or isn't it?
And he was not removing gender identity. He was ADDING it, since literally NO-ONE thinks of themselves as "type 1" or "type 2".

Those "File Submission Guidelines"... wow.
"Don't you dare mod games away from what the developer intended."
ON A MODDING SITE.
(It hurts my brain how ******** these NexusTwats are.)

More, "clearly" to who? ******? Because their perceptions and thinking are reliably rational and reasonable...
I would like to put the writer of the rule in an interrogation chair with a car battery and some electrodes and get them to fully explain how removing all pronouns except the ones like he and she can "cause hostility within the community".
The community is already hostile to it, with the exception of the offended perverts and "liberal" women.

Also: "they had archived a mod on a website dedicated to archiving TOS-breaking content on Nexus Mods and other modding websites with a particular focus on bigotry..."
We're getting real deep under the censorious leftist jannytroons' skin here and on BasedMods. Love to see it.

Some news about Sweet Baby Inc. Turned out, it's a Canadian Government-Created Propaganda Organization!

The real founder of SBI is a politician. "If this connection is real, then the company wasn’t just funded by the Canadian government - it was built by a former government official from the very beginning."

He may be on the spectrum, but Sawyer doesn't really seem to have any kind of attraction to tranners that I've seen over the years.

Edit: Oh it's Ashleigh Coffin, the (now ex)wife everyone throught Peter Coffin made up and was actually a real doll.

I don't really keep track of his goings-on anymore, but he comes across as the kind of guy who would say he supports ***** rights, but has never followed, engaged in an interaction with, or would want to pursue a transwoman. Exclusively interested in natural-born vagina.

Then again, we all know virtue signaling is all performative art anyway.
