The palico can be he or she too though. No presets for it but there are two voices that make the palico a girl or boyMC_Sea wrote: ↑ March 5th, 2025, 21:43You did a great job with your research! I didn't look at the cutscenes or dialogue (since I'm not getting the game) but I had no clue there was so many instances of subversive nessaging.Furin wrote: ↑ March 5th, 2025, 04:05In regard to Wilds, yes. Was there always such heavy environmental messaging in Monster Hunter?
Killing overly predatory monsters to "protect an ecosystem" is somewhat believable, but making those monsters man-made weapons of destruction is just over-the-top and completely unnecessary.
I'm going to have to go back and look into World again.
Here's an instance of Alma referring to the player character as he when attacked by the Dire Dogashuma. But there are other non-cutscene unvoiced dialogue when talking to NPCs at camp as well. According to the threads below, the Palico is the most likely to refer to you as "He/She" during dialogue since you are alone with him the most.Furin wrote: ↑ March 5th, 2025, 05:14I didn't see any voice lines referring to the player character as "he" or "she." From what I remember, the player character is only called "hunter."MC_Sea wrote: ↑ March 5th, 2025, 05:03People don't what causes NPCs to refer the player by "He" or "She" but it has been deduced that the even voice "Presets" (aka Female voices) make them call you "She" while the odd voice "Presets" make them refer to you as "He".
I actually thought it was rather interesting how often the game has the player character with another npc in dialogue so npcs use "them" to actually refer to multiple people and not just the player character directly.

No, outside of promotional material she's a butterface with a fridge body in-game.
Ubisoft made it canon that Kassandra gets pregnant and has a baby and queers and ******** seethed so much the game director apologized. A polgygon article quotes a bisexual redditor as stating they "literally recoiled" when faced with Kassandra getting pregnant.

Saw a steam comment today that proves women don't play games. Was about how the poster likes the "female protagonist" tag because "it's extremely rare to see a playable female character". Which can only be a true statement if someone plays games extremely rarely.

The controversy surrounding Wings Interactive, an alleged indie game funding group linked to Sweet Baby Inc. (SBI) and Landfall Games, has taken a new turn. In a recent report, Gothic Therapy, hosted by MasterofTheTDS and Writing Raven, revealed a crucial admission from Wings Interactive’s own co-founder, confirming financial backing from Landfall Games.

There's too many women in video games, most video games had 1 or 2 women max before the ps4 gen.

I can almost admire their dedication to depict ugliness with such little. ![]()
And while they increased the number of women, the number of character traits remained static.traxtan wrote: ↑ April 12th, 2025, 05:42There's too many women in video games, most video games had 1 or 2 women max before the ps4 gen.
Which is why every single one of them is yet another dull girlboss.
I dread the next Metroid Prime, whenever that one comes out. If Samus gets voiced I'm sure the lolcalizers will butcher her.

As far as I know none of the Metroid Prime games had anything girlbossy in it nor is Samus voiced. Well except grunts, breathing and damage sounds, which are provided by Jennifer Hale.

Nowhere near as talented as Redditors pretend she is. I can't think of any femoid VA that's better, but I also don't keep track of VAs as a general rule.

If you asked me to name a good female VA I'd completely blank. I suspect most would name jennifer hale just because she voices most characters but I never thought she was particularly good or memorable.
The problem with good VAs is they're unique, and therefore I don't want to hear them outside of that role. e.g., Solid Snake or Geralt's VAs are character defining. If someone can do a bunch of voices, they're probably all pretty mediocre.

I hate the Antichrist!
I reckon that if AI technology keeps advancing faster, Western VAs may become something that nobody will ever talk about.

I know there was some dissing here on Kimberly Brooks a while back, but I thought she was pretty good as Angie in Trails of Cold Steel (inb4 "she's black voicing a white character!" Well yes, that's the point of voice acting, you are mixing and matches voices and character designs. Nobody complains about James Earl Jones voicing Darth Vader). I think her voice and Ashley's character conceptual didn't quite work in Mass Effect because I didn't feel that Shepherd and Ashley were already close comrades, so Ashley's rowdiness feels a little presumptuous for a subordinate military office you may have just gotten. Whereas in the context of another game with a similarly rowdy character with the same voice, but being framed as not being part of a military hierarchy and you two are both friends early on, it works.
Marisha Ray with her unusually deep voice was still able to come across as a graceful woman as Laura Arseid. Megan Taylor Harvey and Ashly Burch are two of the few English voice actors I have heard who were able to dub a cute character and sound natural as opposed to forced.
The female dub voices for later Final Fantasy games tend to be good. Yuna, Ashe, Penelo, Fran (Icelandic?), Fang (Australian), Alisaie (British), Spehen (British), etc. I thought whoever voiced the older Judge Drace from FF12 and Merlwyb from FF14 (both actresses) were good. They felt more natural (probably because they had a more realistic character animation to look at and imitate) while still properly emotive and not boring.
