The general assumption I find here is that only Origins was good. DA II is debatable, and Inquisition... uh, Idk dude. It wasn’t overly bad, but nothing spectacular either. Also, I forgot to mention the lighting felt kind of off—maybe because they used the Battlefield FPS engine for a semi-open world RPG? Not sure about the exact technical details. I still can’t believe people were actually comparing it to The Witcher 3 for the best recent RPG crown at the timerusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ April 14th, 2025, 22:38Guys I just watched the disney star wars movie and it sucks, I'm not sure why people like star wars?

This is lorem ipsumpsychic_dream wrote: ↑ April 14th, 2025, 22:14May I ask why this series holds such importance to many on this forum? I played Inquisition back in 2019, and I never understood why it’s held in such high regard here. The combat felt boringly spammy and leaned too much into the “press A to awesome” territory. The writing and the game’s politics didn’t interest me much either. The world hubs felt too confined and close to each other to feel like a true open world, and they were terribly barren and empty.
I didn’t notice the ultra-woke elements others have pointed out, but I did find it strange that my male Inquisitor’s only straight romance options were either a butch tank or an Indian-looking secretary. I got near the end of the Trespasser DLC but gave up because I couldn’t stomach how hard it was—even on normal difficulty, and I started it right after finishing the main story and side quests.
I never played Dragon Age 2 or Origins, but I’ve read that Dragon Age 2 was rushed and mediocre. So, I don’t see how Veilguard would have been any different after the mess that was Inquisition. It got delayed multiple times, and much of the original pre-reveal content was scrapped and redone. Why were people even concerned about this irredeemable garbage of a “game,” knowing the direction the series had been heading since Dragon Age 2? It’s not like BioWare hadn’t already been ******** the bed after the Mass Effect 3 ending disaster.

A little gay and lame to ultimately imply that Meredith was driven insane by the red lyrium idol instead of it being entirely her own faulty beliefs that led her down the path she took. I kind of appreciate that the plot point came back but it feels really random to suddenly have her pull out a magical mind altering sword at the literal last minute.

The game really does suddenly put the pedal to the metal and rush through the ending. It's a little disappointing that Hawke, companions and your love interest don't get any sort of epilogue. Instead we get one with Cassandra and Leliana who have been completely irrelevant the whole game for the sake of sequel bait that was utterly unused in Inquisition anyway.
Knowing how Inquisition ends up also makes it pretty meh since the big Templar-Mage war gets completely side tracked and the game opens with there already having been a detente and peace talks. It really does feel like a sequel hook for another game with Hawke as the protagonist or something. Very strange.
Even if not it would have been nice to get at least some sort of scene to reflect some of your character choices. No last dialog with your love interest. No dialog with your sibling who ultimately sides with you at the end. No final reflection on events with your various companions to see how they feel about the way events unfolded. Just feels a little weak and like the game just sort of peters out which to be fair is probably due to the ****** up development but it doesn't make it feel any less limp.

There never should have been a Circle of Magi in Kirkwall in the first place. Codex entries-and even some dialogue if I recall correctly-imply that Kirkwall was the site where the Magisters sundered the Veil and walked into the Black City. Kirkwall was like Blood Magic Central back in the day, the veil is still very thin. Hence, lots of Blood Magic and Demon ****.

I'm sure I mentioned this before, but DA2 is very special to me. It's special because it was then that I realized that I didn't need to finish games, even if I'd spent money on them, that a game could be so ******* bad that the punishment of playing it, even after the costs were sunk, was foolishness. It was a real turning point in my life.
Yeah Hawke was such a central figure to the mage-templar war's origin that I was certain the next DA was going to be about him putting an end to the war, so I was okay with the abrupt and ambiguous nature of the ending (he left where? To do what?) 'cause I was sure his story wasn't overVergil wrote: ↑ April 16th, 2025, 05:30The game really does suddenly put the pedal to the metal and rush through the ending. Blood magic was everywhere, it's really nonsensical that there was ever a public opinion schism on whether it's safe for mages to roam around unsupervised.TheEmptyRoad wrote: ↑ April 16th, 2025, 05:47There never should have been a Circle of Magi in Kirkwall in the first place. Kirkwall was a port city and a huge slave market for the old Tevinter Empire. The abundance of slaves from all over the continent allowed the Tevinter blood mages to conduct a crazy number of blood rituals sacrificing hundreds of slaves at a time. That made the Veil there extremely thin. This explains all the mages going ******* nuts all the time.
Pretty much every mage that you help in-game turns to blood magic at some point.

"Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."
All of this would have been addressed in The Exalted March expansion pack but Bioware crunched the numbers and realized it wouldn't have brought in any money, so they went full speed ahead on Inquisition instead.Valter wrote: ↑ April 16th, 2025, 08:51Yeah Hawke was such a central figure to the mage-templar war's origin that I was certain the next DA was going to be about him putting an end to the war, so I was okay with the abrupt and ambiguous nature of the ending (he left where? There was just so much in favour of future events developing that way.
I think the intended message is that there should be a moderate middle point between total unregulated mage autism (which turns into Tevinter Byzantium but even more **** and ball torture) and Templars being allowed to unilaterally lobotomize or institute total mage death at any time.Valter wrote: ↑ April 16th, 2025, 09:05Blood magic was everywhere, it's really nonsensical that there was ever a public opinion schism on whether it's safe for mages to roam around unsupervised.TheEmptyRoad wrote: ↑ April 16th, 2025, 05:47There never should have been a Circle of Magi in Kirkwall in the first place. It's sad that what started as a real cool dark fantasy concept ended up in such a disaster story-wise. Politically and morally corrupted by "liberal" totalitarians. Thanks, "Trick" Weekes.

You can technically play DA2 after the ending but you can only walk around Hawke's house. Bizarre decision.

That's because the DLCs were released after the base game and that was the way you could play them on your completed game save.Vergil wrote: ↑ April 17th, 2025, 05:58You can technically play DA2 after the ending but you can only walk around Hawke's house. Bizarre decision.
You'd read a letter from a new quest giver NPC and then go to your front door to load straight into the opening cutscene for any given DLC.
