iirc the studio went on to make a bunch of complete flops after Nier Automata that are unrelated to it. They're probably going to do a related game next just because they need moneys.

FF games have a massive budget. The Niers don't. Automata didn't even have full voice acting and a mere 5 hours of cutscenes compared to 20 in FF16 and 21 in Rebirth. Replicant was a remastered port of an old game with enhanced graphics, tweaked combat, full va, and roughly one hour of new content, not terribly expensive. Yoko's also not a guy who stays in the same place or runs things into the ground; the first two Drakengards and the original Nier were developed by Cavia, the third Drakengard by Access, Automata by Platinum, the Replicant remaster/remake was handled by toylogic, the Reincarnation mobile game by Applibot, and the last thing Yoko worked on was a a trilogy of card-based RPGs developed by Alim (published by Squeenix). Squeenix may own Nier but it looks like they have enough respect for Yoko to not do anything with it without his involvement, so if he wants to spend his time on some ultra-low-budget card-based jrpgs, that's what he's doing.

Wow it's been almost a year since I played this. I still think about it occasionally.
Incredible how many things in my life have changed in just that year.
Mostly for the worst unfortunately but not all bad I guess. I should probably play it again at least one more time.
Not for those stupid extra endings though!
