Guess I'm a Ranger.
Rolled borderlands background. I choose Fearless, Lost, and Late Sleeper traits.
Character portrait: George was raised by a druid, and he left the old man, as a young man. He's almost 40, spending much of that time exploring the borderlands, killing monsters. His driving motive is to find the lady of the lake, who he was cared by once and fell in love with, but he can't find her lake, anywhere. He gets lost a lot.
Dropped a 2 and 3 from my 5d6. I'll shop later today.
@Irenaeus
I rolled and got 9 silver and 8 coppers, so I have 98 coppers?
Skills
Combat Reflexes
Survival
Ambushing
Land Surveying
I bought a robe, 3 herbs, sack, ****. I think that's all my money.

I don't think charisma effects charm person so even with 3 it should be pretty effective.

This spell makes a humanoid creature regard the caster as its trusted friend and ally. Humanoid creatures include bugbears, dryads, dwarves, elves, gnolls, gnomes, goblins, hobgoblins, kobolds, lizardmen, men, mermen, morlocks, neanderthal, naiads, ogres, pixies, sprites, and troglodytes, and other man-like creatures no larger than an ogre and possessing 4 or fewer Hit Dice. Humans and demi-humans may be affected regardless of character level. A save versus Spells will negate the effect. If the target of the spell is currently being threatened or attacked by the caster or his or her allies, it receives a +5 bonus on its saving throw. The spell does not enable the caster to control the charmed creature as if it were an automaton; rather, it perceives his words and actions in the most favorable way. The caster can try to give the subject orders, but it will not do anything it wouldn't ordinarily do, and further may receive an additional saving throw to overcome the magic (at the Judge's discretion). The caster must speak the charmed creature's language to communicate any commands, or else be good at pantomiming; of course, if the caster is attacked, the charmed creature will act to protect its "friend" (though that could mean attacking the caster's enemies, or attempting to carry off the caster to a "safe" place). The charmed creature receives a new saving throw each day if it is has an Intelligence of 13 or greater, every week if its Intelligence is 9-12, or every month it its Intelligence is 8 or less. A charm may be removed by a dispel magic spell.

Let me tell me if I looked over anything. I'll do the PC charts and send you all by PM eventually. Thinking of starting in a few days, after we agree on more details of the game mechanics.
Also, added proactive goals to the character sheet.

@Irenaeus Are we considered naked if we don't purchase any vestments?
Name: Wolfgang von Schwarzscheid (Magic-User/Warmage/Scion of a fading noble house)
Strength: 11 (0)
Agility: 16 (+2)
Constitution: 16 (+2)
Intelligence: 18 (+3) (max)
Wisdom: 9 (0)
Charisma: 10 (0)
Luck: 13 (+1)
Skills: Magic Gift, Evocation, Military strategy, Elementalism Fire, Elementalism Air, Riding, Diplomacy, Martial training, Command
Equipment: Staff, Robe. 10 Rations, Flint and steel, Quill, Sturdy sack
Money: 5s 7c after purchases
Spells: Shield, Detect Magic, Magic Missile, Air Bubble
Traits: Brave, Calm, Thrifty
Wolfgang was born as part of a noble family that governed a small part of the countryside of the local Baron. His mother died relatively young and while his Father was a dutiful and loyal man to his betters he was not well liked, to stubborn, to straightforward, too correct and while he always had his families best interest at heart he never came into the good graces of his superiors or peers.
Due to this Wolfgang as the only male child of his family was burdened with loneliness in his childhood and youth, though this came at the benefit of him being a good student in the various ways of the life he was born into, at least most of the things that were not burdened by the pretentious etiquette that nobles normally were beholden to. While he was somewhat of a loner this did not really weight him down on a personal level as he found a pretty fulfilling life in the things he was interested in.
While he had not much interest in participating in the political plays the other nobles seemed to be keen on, mostly the backstabbing of course, his father was very much invested in bettering the status of his family. To that end it was decided that Wolfgang, due to his talents, was to be sent to the Academy to become a mage versed in both statesmanship, Military logistics and strategies and combat magic in the hopes of him getting a high ranking position in the courts as a Military advisor.
Wolfgang was an exceptional student, highly Intelligent and eager to learn, for the first time as well, in the cities he bloomed into a young man with halfway normal social life. The years passed and he was nearly reaching the end of his study and was even promised a very good starting position at court when disaster struck.
A scandal revolving around his family lead to their downfall, he would never know if the accusations of the other noble family was true or not or if his father was framed for it but according to the rumors his father had blackmailed some higher ranking officials and when he was found out killed two guards who tried to apprehend him and was Promptly executed.
The lands of the family were sized by the surrounding nobles as part of supposed reparations, nearly in an instant, his sisters were forced to marry into other noble houses and while he was never directly associated with his fathers supposed doings Wolfgang learned really fast that friendship in the courts was not much more than politeness towards someone to be used, his promised position was gone and every person he asked for help did turn his back to him.
Without his lands and his fathers stipend for the education his monetary means dried up very fast and that is where the story begins, a man robbed of his legacy now searching for a place in life, not sure if he even wants to get back to where he was, back into the places where hard work meant nothing and only Venom gets you ahead.

Resident Anti-feminist MRA, Race-mixer and no I'm not woke and not gay. Married with children, My writing style is shit, live with it or ignore me.
I'll change it to Int 18, as that's the starting max.
I'm allowing everyone to choose skills from any list, including other classes. You can choose one more yourself and I'll add some others that make sense given your background. We can talk Via PMs.Lord of Riva wrote: β March 19th, 2025, 09:48Skills: Magic Gift, Evocation, Military strategy, Elementalism Fire, Elementalism Air.(+more?)
Can I only chose skills out of "general" and "Magic user"? With the noble house thing I may be willing to change things up a bit
It's one plus the INT bonus, in your case +3. Since you chose Evocation and the two other elementalism skills, as I said above we can discuss in PMs new options for spells usually not available at start.Lord of Riva wrote: β March 19th, 2025, 09:48Spells: How many spells do I get?
I just chose Elemtalism to fit my character, what exactly do these skills do? There is also sadly no elemental spells in the first level of spells.
"Carries a legacy" is a double-edged sword type of trait. It can help your character with social stuff but also burden him socially and psychologically depending on the circumstances.Lord of Riva wrote: β March 19th, 2025, 09:48Background(roll 11): Scion of a fading noble house
I rolled on the Background table and got 11, scion of a fading noble house do I get the Bonus skills for free? And I can now choose these extra traits instead of the ones I chose before, is that correct? If so, the three traits are they all positive or is "carries a legacy" a negative trait?
Martial traning means you'll get better attack rolls than untrained people.Lord of Riva wrote: β March 19th, 2025, 09:48I got Martial training through this and thus can chose a weapon proficiency, right? What is the difference between a small axe and an ax or do you allow me to purchase a ****** rusty bronze sword (like fighters) for the money I still have?
The the difference between a small axe and an ax is the weight and damage, it's easier to hit with an small axe but the larger size axe does more damage usually (1d4 vs 1d6).
You can't buy a rusty bronze sword from the starting "general store" sorry but you may find stores in game with cheap weapons.
The book says mages can't wear any armor and when in armor can't cast spells (or gain XP).Lord of Riva wrote: β March 19th, 2025, 09:48Also Armor and mages, how do they interact? Can a Wizard wear an Armor and still cast or not? is it bound to material?
As aageneral rule for magic users, the restriction on casting spells while wearing armor is due to the need for free movement of hands and the ability to speak for spellcasting, and it isn't specifically bound to the material of the armor. As it seems more like a rule for balancing PC classes, we can later discuss as a group when fine-tuning the rules if we will open some exceptions depending on skills, traits, other factors.

As it seems more like a rule for balancing PC classes, we can later discuss as a group when fine-tuning the rules if we will open some exceptions depending on skills, traits, other factors.
two things remain: I asked about carries a legacy due to how you designed traits, you either get one positive or two positive and one negative. Therefore I do not know what the trait table in the list for noble scion is, positive or negative (or if they are even traits in the same vein, as there is also "perks" mentioned and educated and knows courtly manners sounds like a skill)
And lastly are martial training, diplomacy, riding skills I get for free due to my background or am I just able to purchase them?

Resident Anti-feminist MRA, Race-mixer and no I'm not woke and not gay. Married with children, My writing style is shit, live with it or ignore me.
You can put the "legacy" trait on the positive table because in general being a noble will open doors, but you must understand that sometimes being a noble will bring negative attention or attitude from other people, and also, your character feels like he "carries a legacy" mentally so that can be both to his advantage or detriment at different times.Lord of Riva wrote: β March 19th, 2025, 19:07Ok gotcha,

I'll be adding these due to your background, so you can purchase another.Lord of Riva wrote: β March 19th, 2025, 19:07And lastly are martial training, diplomacy, riding skills I get for free due to my background or am I just able to purchase them?
Btw, anyone else who feels they should have another skill (or many) based on their background that I haven't included yet, please mention it to me. I want to keep it fair for everybody when we start. The skills should make sense, of course.

The "Child of War" background has Scavenging as a bonus skill but there's no such skill in the ACKS PHB. Can I add the Survival skill instead, due to "living on the run from the authorities on the outskirts of civilization" part of my backstory?Irenaeus wrote: β March 19th, 2025, 19:12Btw, anyone else who feels they should have another skill (or many) based on their background that I haven't included yet, please mention it to me. "Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."
I'm adding a new skills that aren't in the book as part of my adaptation of the system. They are even called proficiencies in the book and I changed their namelogincrash wrote: β March 19th, 2025, 19:32The "Child of War" background has Scavenging as a bonus skill but there's no such skill in the ACKS PHB. I wasn't going to add Survival to your char because he supposedly lived with the warring group and were provided for by a cook, etc. However, maybe every one in the group was used to live by themselves or even care for others in the wild, including your character. I will allow it. That's why it's important for us to discuss the starting stages to be fair to everybody.
