Your $70 doesn't buy you cruelty. - Mark Darrah (Dragon Age executive producer)

"You don't have to like a game, and you don't have stay quiet if you have complaints. You're entitled to be angry, and you're entitled to express that anger. If you are mad at that Ubisoft game, be mad at Ubisoft. Express your anger to Ubisoft or the studio that made the game. But you cross a line when you start being cruel about it."

"When you celebrate layoffs at a studio because the game that you don't like didn't do that well, you're crossing a line into being cruel, and fundamentally, you should have more grace for other human beings, but if you're not buying that, let's go on to point two: you don't know what caused the results you don't like."

"Express your opinion to the company that made your game. Tell them what you like, tell them what you don't like. Be specific. It will help you get games that are more like what you want. But when you are personally attacking individual devs, you are crossing a line, and you're probably attacking the wrong person anyway."
Suffered through his entire video. Why does he think he can talk down to people let alone his customers like this?

Especially love this part

"Express your opinion to the company that made your game. Tell them what you like, tell them what you don't like. Be specific. It will help you get games that are more like what you want"

Specific criticism is so well received by nu-devs :salute:

It's a good thing that companies are living entities which are definitely not made up of people, don't you dare take your criticisms to the people actually making the product.

On Fairy-Stories, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote:
I have claimed that Escape is one of the main functions of fairy-stories, and since I do not disapprove of them, it is plain that I do not accept the tone of scorn or pity with which “Escape” is now so often used: a tone for which the uses of the word outside literary criticism give no warrant at all. In what the misusers are fond of calling Real Life, Escape is evidently as a rule very practical, and may even be heroic. In real life it is difficult to blame it, unless it fails; in criticism it would seem to be the worse the better it succeeds. Evidently we are faced by a misuse of words, and also by a confusion of thought. Why should a man be scorned if, finding himself in prison, he tries to get out and go home? Or if, when he cannot do so, he thinks and talks about other topics than jailers and prison-walls? The world outside has not become less real because the prisoner cannot see it. In using escape in this way the critics have chosen the wrong word, and, what is more, they are confusing, not always by sincere error, the Escape of the Prisoner with the Flight of the Deserter.

Just so a Party-spokesman might have labelled departure from the misery of the Führer’s or any other Reich and even criticism of it as treachery. In the same way these critics, to make confusion worse, and so to bring into contempt their opponents, stick their label of scorn not only on to Desertion, but on to real Escape, and what are often its companions, Disgust, Anger, Condemnation, and Revolt. Not only do they confound the escape of the prisoner with the flight of the deserter; but they would seem to prefer the acquiescence of the “quisling” to the resistance of the patriot. To such thinking you have only to say “the land you loved is doomed” to excuse any treachery, indeed to glorify it.

You'd have to suffer from terminal brainrot to try to make a sequel to BG3. There is not a single studio that exists that could do it.

If they had Larian's toolset/engine they could make an Obsidian-style sequel, that's not impossible.

Not even larian was capable of making BG3 after Larian handed it off to them .
Interpret from that what you will.

Here are a couple of custom BG3 campaigns made by modders https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/14914 https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/14844

If some randos can put together this stuff with the toolset Larian provided, a professional company can do the same. Just focus on new content, no big changes to gameplay.

A big reason BG3 is successful is the immense effort put into reactivity in design & quests in act 1. That is not something that comes for free, that takes incredible effort.
I remember one demo where Swen was showing off BG3 and he was surprised at how the game reacted. because be wasn't even aware the game accounted for what he was doing.

Half of BG3 is thousands of manhours put in by turbonerds putting endless polish on it. This cannot be replicated by anyone who is not a turbonerd making a passion project until we get more advanced AI.

It's the same reason no studio can make a "obsidian style sequel" btw. Obsidian does not exist. It is not the ship of theseus when you replace the wood with feces.
There are no studios capable of producing games that require the raw nerdpower, women are antithetical to nerds and completely destroy anything they're capable of doing in a workplace either by turning them into turbosimps or just replacing them outright.

Your $70 doesn't buy you cruelty. - Mark Darrah (Dragon Age executive producer)

"Gamers are dead".

Sure it was the journos who said that, but we all know they're all in bed together.
I have no sympathy.

A guy asking for "tone it down" when it's not convenient for his ilk to be unhinged anymore? You know what? Fair. To ditch coherence and logic and try to compel your enemies to not use the weapons you used is a valid tactic. They want to win after all.

And it's completely reasonable and logical on our side having the desire to utterly crush their ideology piece by piece while they are forced to watch. We (hopefully) want to win after all.

It's sad, but I am convinced one of the many truths of the world is that might (be it through strength, cunning, seductiveness, eloquence, etc.) does indeed make right. Also, trying to demonize this principle while adopting it yourself just proves it true. It's cruel, it's brutal and difficult to stomach, but at least it's more honest than attempting to frame it with logic and coherence while your enemy does not care. That does not mean one shouldn't do that, just re-contextualize the purpose of pointing these out. "We don't want to reason with them, we want to win (the public over them), and so we will show their hypocrisy for all to see".

One can call any reason under the sun (education, society, governments, global cabals), but I think the cold reality one has to face is that we should blame ourselves for having been weak and complacent for all these years/decades and let the wokies take over. And the real question one should ask himself is: are you willing to become strong and stop this madness?

How? Well, you guys are already doing your part after all. This forum, the mods you create, the games you curate and discuss are proof of that. It's great to see.

Rant over.

Isn't obscuring right and wrong from people a direct product of the might of the current zeitgeist, which is driven by the might of several forces, be it economical (Blackrock), political (WEF) and ideological (DEI)?

Also, aren't they using their own might to attempt to rewrite history in the mind of people (ex: using the media as their vehicle) and actual history (ex: banning books, tearing down statues) at every chance they got?

****** too.

Look at any modding project where one or more of the modders ***** out. Productivity plummets because they now spend more time grooming minors on their Discord than they do developing.

As an example, it's why the New Vegas mod for Fallout 4 has not shown any significant progress in years. This is also true for Hearts of Iron 4 mods. Apply the same logic to professional game development (or really, any project you can think of) and the same pattern emergers.

It's no wonder Obsidian needed 6 years to **** out Avowed, despite the game being a significant downgrade when compared to previous Obsidian projects.

We are pretending that MtG doesn't make enough money to fund a videogame now? Okay.
I think you're underestimating the difficulty, complexity and costs involved in attempting such an endavour.

Let's assume that Hasbro has no wish to fund a monstrosity like Baldur's Gate 3, they want a more manageable project - that still requires them to either buy or create a developer with the necessary skills to make a competent cRPG, which next to imsims is one of the most difficult types of games to develop for.

Does Hasbro have a cool $100 to $200 million laying around to buy/create such a developer? Do they have the surplus cash necessary to finance this team for 5+ years, since the team would first need to settle in and get a pipeline going? Would they even risk starting such a project, knowing it would be a woke monstrosity, in the current political climate?

Indications are they thought about it, then smartened up for some reason.

Skeleton Key has been working on whatever this is since 2022, so they invested quite a bit into it. But the studio's like 50 people max, so not a massive investment.
