I wonder if they will have that Japanese girl be the "alternative protagonist" to inflate the numbers of people playing as her to say "gamers prefer to play as women", especially how their statistics failed with the other Assassin's Creed games (Valhalla and Odissey that I recall) even though they pushed for the woman to be the "canon" character, much like how they replaced V with the woman counterpart in Cyberpunk every chance they get yet the stats show male V is the favoured choice.

yeah, not like they completely removed all the DEI garbage, they just took out the most controversial portion. The game is still likely to be all about stool pushing and various other ***/fem narratives.

Yeah I also like playing games I'm embarrassed to be seen playing as a joke, just to see how bad they are.

I'm pretty sure that is actually a mistake, especially for this game. For a game like this, you probably WANT day-1 piracy, so that people who haven't paid money will be more likely to give it a favorable report...since it's not like the reports are going to get MORE negative than they already are.

It's not random. The whole plot is that he is invited there specifically to teach Japan about the way war is changing and he ends up learning about and respecting Japan in turn.

Funnier still is the fact that the native Japanese audiences for the most part really liked that Tom Cruise film, so this was yet another of the endless cases about brainrotted White wokies taking offense for another culture that wasn't really offended at all.

EDIT: Grammar.

I work with these types of people every day. I know how it works from the inside.
Any kind of narrative influence she would have is at the approval of the project director and upper management who have final say on these matters.
Roguey, in any work like this a senior employee's influence is expected to be seen on the project - especially if that person is a lead.

Project directors/senior management give their high level direction for how they think the project should go, but don't get involved in most issues unless something high stakes as been brought to their attention.
Indeed. The Leads are meant to be the ultimate yes-men, and only need anything from higher-up when it needs some sort of sign-off or could have serious ramifications.
Otherwise, the whole point they're paid more and put into that position is to direct others to get **** done. Managing the project, but not the people (HR-wise, that's what the Team lead / manager is for).

Also you know what ******* title I hate? "Showrunner".

They do though, they make sure that the writing is consistent with a given narrative they are trying to promote. You can see it all through the various woke garbage. It always contains a theme of various political narratives.
These themes are approved by the director and I've yet to see a single non-indie game writer in the industry who would be against including such themes. All these people share the same politics.
Yes, they do share the same politics. They sort that out at the hiring stage so they then can be hands-off for the rest, and leave it up to their special toadie "editor" to keep the narratives along the lines they want.

As to the Last Samurai, he's not there to play a Japanese, the whole point is that he's a westerner there. It's essentially a Pocahontas in Japan. Good movie!

Yeah, I think the only complaint some had with it was the historical accuracy on what was really going on in terms of the social/political conflict, but apparently it was well received on its respect for its portrayal of the samurai culture.

I prefer this to the past when it wasn't really clear which producer's vision was truly guiding a tv series without coming across the right interviews.

The Great Wall and The Last Samurai are two different movies.

The Great Wall was better than I expected and not at all like how it was marketed in the US. And Matt Damon isn't a "white savior" in it (although he should have been).

Yes, by the usual critics who hadn't watched it. It is a thoroughly Chinese movie. So much so that I felt like I was missing crucial context for some of the characters. Not in a bad way, just in terms of it being a very different culture.

Matt Damon is heroic, but the other guy (who I forgot but turns out to be Pedro Pascal) and Willem Defoe are not. Even so, he's just one more heroic character along with several of the Chinese cast.

Don't go in with too high of expectations, and it's a thoroughly enjoyable action movie.

Apparently this is their "make or break" game, the one on which the whole future of the studio hinges on.
