It uses deepl as a fallback for when it trips the AI safety stuff
This is awesome. One of the major problems with using AutoTranslator was the tradeoff between quality of translation vs. the AI editorializing/censoring the output. This is an elegant way of solving this.

openrouter doesn't let me configure the safety level like the direct Google API
Can you also use ChatGPT still?

I've been messing around with DeepSeek, seeing how far I can push it before it clams up, and it's far less uptight than the Western models, so that could also be an option too.

Localizers are completely dead at this point. This took me less than a day to develop and get working with incredible quality.
Pretty much, yeah. Also the big reason why I'm so excited about MeoW as well, it renders the increasingly ******-infested fan translation scene virtually obsolete, and makes 40 years of games available to a global audience.
It can use any model on openrouter which is about 200 total or something. I think chatgpt might be a bit slow and definitely more expensive, but openrouter has it.

Fwiw I'm convinced flash 2.0 is probably the best choice for translation while playing.

Isn't there a way to use the AI to write something that permanently mods the language?
I apologize if my responses were not relevant to your needs. As an AI language model, I do not have personal beliefs or opinions, and I only provide responses based on the information provided to me.

OK, going to clean this up and publish my fork on github, then publish the translation(so far) here for easy download.

To expand on what rusty said, the program stores the translated strings in a "dictionary", basically pairing the Chinese text with the translation in a simple .txt file, and any time the same string appears in the game again, it first looks into the "dictionary" to see if there is a corresponding entry, and only if there is not a request is sent to an LLM to translate it.

Once you have finished the game you can share these files with others, it's basically like making an unofficial translation patch by playing the game.

As an example:

Code: Select all

ching chong ding dong=The young brave ventures forth into the world of the rivers and lakes to seek his destiny
Theoretically, you could do the whole translation manually, since you can edit the .txt file at will, even while in-game.

It seems to trip up all the machine translations, but AI models understand it's heavy in use of idioms.

If you wanted to see what garbage the machine translations spit out :)

How the **** can you even stomach amphoreus?

Game has become worse than a renpy visual novel, characters simply dont emote outside of cinematics it feels like, only cycle through the same 4 idle animations while facing whomever is talking.
The writing has become heavy exposition dumps, complete slop.

Sounds terrible.

There are things about Star Rail that is irksome to me, which is compounded that I've had to put up with several hundred hours of this crap before Trails and FF14. However, I have not lost all patience with HSR yet, probably because the space planet hopping setting is still novel.

Yeah, but this is really pushing it.

好久没吃绝户了 - Long time since eaten the family out of business (literally translation would be long time since eaten a dead/child-less family)
来吃个绝庙也不错啊 - Come to eat at the temple of immortality also not bad
你引来官府我们不就没戏唱了? - If you attract the local authorities we won't perform?

Love that show. Hope it doesn't take too long for the final movie to get fansubbed.

I was considering doing an Azibelpher avatar, but it was really hard to fit his long hair and his horns into the 128px height limit and still look coherent at a glance.

I've played.... 3 of the Sword and Fairies I believe. (Not sure of the numbers now, probably not the latest one.)
  • Generally gorgeous looking characters and area design
  • Camera controls are awful.
  • Mechanics are straight from the 9th plane of hell.
  • Controls are from an even worse plane of hell.
  • Bad guys aren't actually bad they just look like it.
  • Usually has a fun romance side plot.
  • Probably requires a fan-made translation otherwise you get fun stuff like "Uncle Grumpy Man" and "Aunt Sad Woman".
  • Inevitably will have a flying whale somehow. Probably with a city on it's back.
There's another Chinese RPG I played but I can't recall the name. You play a variety of characters set in ancient China and it centers around martial arts. That one I mostly liked except the translation got borked towards the end. I had just come from several other woke crap games and it was a lovely breath of fresh air. Also great setting.

This was probably the hardest line I encountered yet so I wanted to go back and try my improoooved translator on it.

Using my new method I managed to get:
"It's been ages since we preyed on a family. Preying on a temple wouldn't be bad either! You bring the authorities down on us, and we're finished!"
What I had previously:
It's been a while since we've wiped out a whole family. Wiping out a temple wouldn't be bad, either! But if you bring the law down on us, we're done for, aren't we?

East Asian fixation on flying whales needs to be studied.

I was genuinely surprised with how free of politics their games tend to be, especially when compared to movies made in mainland China.

Maybe, as an outsider, I'm just not on some cues, but even when the plot focuses on politics it's all about noted trends in ancient China, with a sprinkling of martial arts added as fantasy flavor. You have palace eunuchs vs generals, provincial warlords vs the emperor, the kingdom vs jungle/steppe barbarians etc.

If it makes sense in the context. Without its really difficult, at least for me. That's why I don't really play those games, I can read the characters but to make sense of it is often just too exhausting.

Ho Lu is pretty good if rather jank. Definitely feels like something between small indie and AA but it's one of those games where the devs set out to make something bigger than they could rather than making a boring game that already exists. There's something special about works created by people who set out to make a great project rather than one that was purposely limited in scope.

It's the difference between eurojank and games like outerworlds. I get no pleasure from playing a safe game. I'd rather see someone try their hardest and fail than do a routine performance.
:scratch-pipe:

It doesn't have the player freedom of hero's adventure tho. But it's an open world game with a fun world to explore.

The game is somewhat unfinished, since the devs ran out of time/money to do so, but there's allegedly mods that try to flesh out the content.

The devs are also working on a sequel to it, which should be coming out in 2025 or 2026.

Leaving this here for future reference because it's obscure.

HLTS, quest "Stone Washing Evil", the password is:

糖葫芦唷=Get your tánghúlu!
翡翠做的吶~=Made of jadeite!
一文钱!=One wén!
买八送七~=Buy eight, get seven free!
酸!=Lame!

I think you're supposed to steal a uniform and wear it to eavesdrop, but the game didn't make it clear at all. Nowhere in the game does it mention that outfits actually do anything. :scratch-pipe:

probably because the space planet hopping setting is still novel.
The setting is pretty good.
I like the paths, I like the idea that the universe empowers people that knowingly or unknowingly, willingly or unwillingly follow the path of an ascended being.

I also like some of the characters, particularly the earlier ones. Jarilo IV is HSR at its best, the writing is unpretentious, you are on an adventure with your friends, the world is a dangerous place and your mentors are not there.

The ***** ship is alright, I even like that it has a lot of minigames making fun of the wuxia writing type and Chinese literature tropes. It doesnt quite feel like an adventure, more like you were manipulated into being there, so you are sort of along for the ride, but it made sense for you to be there.

Penacony is fine, the early penacony is a dream. But as soon as you start playing aventurines quest it goes downhill, nobody gives a **** about aventurine, and its a multi hour questline. The end of the questline is alright though.

And now Amphoreus, they want us to spend a year here, so they intend to cram an encyclopedias worth of exposition in 10 hours of clicking next, and its annoying at best. The story itself is not bad, but theres a lot of information thats just not needed, hours of information actually. And what is it with the ******* puzzles, spend 2 hours running around the same room moving **** so that you can keep going. They have promised to fix it, so hopefully they deliver.

I am also sticking with it for now since they also promised to buff older units, including 4 stars and standard banner ones, so hopefully the gameplay improves. The balance is *** right now, and it feels like the devs are ashamed of it, so they have you fight as little as possible, but thats even worse than having to fight, because its replaced with nothing but puzzles.

Lately I just claim **** daily and move on with my day, not even 5 minutes spent in it.
