Uhm DSA and Das schwarze Auge is the same thing.
I said DSA in the sense of "the P&P" and DSA:Schicksalsklinge as mentioning the first game of the Nordland-triology.

The issue with DSA is that it is not known as such outside of germany, that is why I used both the abbreviation and the written out title and the english version.

what story?

BG1 is full of joke characters, I do not particularly like any of them. They tried to emulate the goofiness of some P&P sessions, I get that but nah.

To make that clear I played through the game, twice, and that it more than enough for a lifetime for me.
That's a bit of an exaggeration. There are some joke encounters, but I wouldn't say that characterizes the game. Even in those the humor is a lot more subdued than what passes for humor in modern games.
I later replayed it in the "enhanced edition" to for once play through the series in full and in order, I still did not enjoy the experience.
They just added so much crap to the game, in addition to all the mods they stole, its barely the same game.

I wish there would be more low level, slow paced adventure. I don't need to level up every 15 min and find a new EPIC piece of gear every 5.

For us not in the know (anymore, not since TuTu) what is the best way to install the game nowadays for the ultimate classic BG1 experience? 😇

Ah yes, but should I use Gem (?) or not? Am not sure TOS runs well a newer system?

It does run on modern systems, I am playing it right now. You asked about the ultimate classic experience, and that's it. Everything else changes it quite a bit.

Voting Baldur's Gate. Beat the classic version multiple times but will try the EE on Steam this time.

Wish I still had my own mods which among other stuff made Semaj and Angelo real PITAs. Good times, but it's ... 23 years ago or something.
Also made a BG2 mod that changed Bhaal powers.
Don't think I will be able to recreate them; don't even remember which tools I used...

Right. 😊 Was only thinking of widescreen (or its modern equivalent) mod at least. Nothing that changes the game,/original content - especially nothing EE at any rate.
The only exception would be my own old mods. 😁

There is also this for BG: Dungeons & Dragons Anthology.
I own this title physically, haven't seen any old-school DRM code.
Haven't tested it with GemRB yet.

Don't get me wrong, I even finished EE three times, all good. But there is only one original BG experience :)

Even widescreen only would change it a bit. The game was designed with a very small window in mind.

Speaking of EE, will there be a rule on which version to play? Asking because I recall there being discourse (outside this site) that Baeloth is overpowered, but I always love to have him around to hear him speak since trying the EE version (though I hate everything else it changed similarly to how I hated the forced content for Bloodlines added by the Unofficial Patch in the past).

Let me rephrase that. I want to play a BG game which is as faithful to AD&D 2e as possible and at the same time as close to the original game (meaning not EE).
Any mod recommendations for such a venture?

Eh, I would agree to that. And we would still play BALDUR'S GATE, the highest vote count any game ever received in the AG. :salute:

Voted Gothic 2 since I've just finished BG1 recently, and is also playing BG2 right now. I'd say that BG1 is a much more enjoyable experience than BG2 but I don't think I'd like to touch it again for a while tbh, although the fact it's relatively short (~30 hours vs 60+ hours to beat the base game of BG2 and still have ToB left to do) which makes it less a hassle to replay.

Just load an endgame save, beat him again and take a screenshot. You would still get the badge.

I have the disks but I skipped a CDRom drive on my rig, I'm pretty sure I have some flying around but eh. But yeah the enhanced edition content sucks.

Yeah well, I got that link from here, I replayed the series in 2017 and got the enhanced edition then and I do not plan to play the first one ever again tbh,

For BG, I get the arguments for 4-man and 6-man parties, but is there a case for a 5-man party? I'm currently leaning towards a 4-man party.

Edit: I'm guessing you'd split the difference, but want to make sure I'm not overlooking something.

Depends on your main character, if you multi class you want less party members so you level up at a decent pace despite the xp split

In case you are being serious, it is THAC0 and it is a mechanic best explained by someone more eloquent than me.
You can read some of that here
