RPGs that let you play as a kobold
RPGs that let you play as a kobold
The cool scaly/dragonkind kind, not the lame gnome kind. I'll start:
Knights of the Chalice 2
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup
Oubliette (might be gnomebolds, I don't know)
And uhh, I think that's it.

Pretty sure you can download some NWN/NWN2 mods to play with kobolds

NWN's expansions have Deekin.
Curse of the Azure Bonds has Dragonbait accompany you at certain parts, and he's pretty much a kobold.

A kobold RPG where you have to avoid being offed by adventures and serve your dragon patron sounds cool. Maybe the CalArts grads could avoid inserting [current day politics] into the plot if the characters are all reptiles.
There would be reptile ******** and you know it.

What personality disorder do you have that makes you want to play as a kobold?
The better question is why can't I play as a gnoll in anything?

I keep misreading the title as RPGs that let you play as a cuckhold and thinking wtf is wrong with @Tweed.
Oh fantastic a stealth game with rpg elements...J1M wrote: β July 26th, 2023, 03:25A kobold RPG where you have to avoid being offed by adventures and serve your dragon patron sounds cool
Not relevant to what Tweed asked but since we're at it, Tales of Maj'Eyal
Has minotaurs, ghouls, skeletons and ogres, on top of a few versions of more conventional elves and dwarves and some even weirder stuff. If you never tried it, give it a spin because it's very high production, for a roguelike (also gud).
There's a free version (I think?) I bought the steam one to support the devs ages ago and, if you give it a try, you'll soon understand why.
I was thinking of it more like a tactical "base defense" game where you have significantly weaker units than the enemy and need to use traps, terrain, and positioning to your advantage.Humbaba wrote: β July 26th, 2023, 11:18Oh fantastic a stealth game with rpg elements...J1M wrote: β July 26th, 2023, 03:25A kobold RPG where you have to avoid being offed by adventures and serve your dragon patron sounds cool
It would invert the standard tactical game's information economy in that the player would have complete knowledge of the battlefield and a chance to prepare it before the combat started. It would also invert the post-nuXCOM assumption that there should be an advantage to keeping every unit alive.

Gnomes, gnomes, gnomes, all ugly gay sweedish house gnomes. Where's the DRAGONS?!
The Suikoden games allow you to acquire Kobold party members, but Japan's idea of Kobolds is that they look like dog people. I think Record of Lodoss War and The Vision of Escaflowne started the trend.
Suikoden 2 has a neat moment with the kobolds. There is some animosity towards them in the country of Jowston. When Highland invades, you have to rally armies from different parts of the country, including a kobold army. Your lead strategist, Shu, plans with the kobold general Ridley (pictured in the middle) to feign a breakup with both your armies over racial tensions which then turns into a pincer attack on the Highland army.
