Mount & Blade Warband. Enjoying it so far. A quest bugged out and I'm going to have to restart, but I was only a couple of hours in so no big deal. Before I start a new game I have been looking at patches and mods which might be worth downloading. Apparently Floris is the best mod for newcomers as it adds content without altering the game itself too much. However I'm still undecided on whether to just play vanilla. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Play vanilla for a few hundred hours before touching mods. Floris changes things quite a bit, one common complaint is troop trees are homogenized. I've never touched it, but that's because I think Native's balance is perfect and has soul.

Well I restored the Roman Empire and slowly taking back the original kingdoms. I'm up to 852 AD, so it's been 83 years since the game started.

not interested in their Of Orcs and Men was a co-development with Cyanide so not fully theirs)
Cyanide aren't bad, or at least they weren't back then. You should check their Game of Thrones RPG, it's a very good sort-of biowarian storyfag rpg.
I liked the two Styx games but I'm uncertain about Of Orcs and Men. Also have no interest whatsoever in Game of Thrones.

Still exploring the depths of my autism in Barotrauma. **** is excellent:

Should probably make some sort of effortpost since no one seem to know about it or thinks it's a meme game. It is ofc, but it's the good kind of meme game. Today I discovered I can build a working vertical or horizontal elevator, inside pretty much any sub, using the editor. Most **** can simply be done in game tho and even without touching the engineering stuff, the game offers pretty much endless depth. It's also heavily moddable and MP oriented, need a special kind of autism to enjoy it sp but it perfectly playable and completable.

Completed Pikmin 4. I liked it.

Game is significantly longer than expected. First game had to be completed within 30 in-game days. This one took 50 days. Plus 30 caves with ~4 sublevels each. Plus another mode that took 12 days. Plus another dozen timed challenges. Plus an optional guantlet with 10 levels.

Game is also more focused on efficiency rather than challenge. The dog trivialized combat so that I almost never used red Pikmin after the first few days. They added numerous upgrades to keep the player motivated. Enemies don't respawn. Items feel like cheat codes. I didn't use them until the last night mission.

Edit: Forgot to mention that you can rewind time via a quicksave system so the game somewhat assumes Pikmin losses will be minimal. They also give you 12 free Pikmin a day. Plus free Pikmin in caves. In the first game there was an element of being efficient at replenishing forces, but like combat that has been minimized in this game.

Still been playing Doom with an assortment of mods, most recently the mod shown in this video:

Despite GZDoom being a bloated mess, I'm amazed at what can be done with what amounts to a 1993 engine with some added bells and whistles. Playing through wads with this Halo skin applied easily beats the 343 installments by a wide margin, and really reminds me of the glory days of gaming, when 'fun' mattered more than motion capture and flashy visuals. It's also impressive just how good the pre-rendered sprites are when compared to their polygonal equivalents. I'm starting to wonder if late 90s devs got the wrong idea. You could convey a lot of the same visual elements just using sprites, with far less of a performance cost, and it would've aged better in the long run too just as the original Doom has when compared to other games like Quake and Half-Life.

I managed to retake all of the Roman Empire's de jure titles within 121 years. The current year in my game is 890 AD. I've got another 565 years to go.

I gave the duchy of Transylvania to the only feudal lord in the kingdom of Pannonia as a viceroyalty. So far the proconsul of Pannonia has been treating them really well. I'm waiting for the Transylvanians to get out of the tribal age.

I might want to remove all the titles from the proconsul in order to force them into feudalism.

Oh I forgot to mention I removed all the Pannonians from power and replaced them with proper Romans. I hope you don't mind. :smug:

That's fine. Transylvania wasn't that advanced in the Middle Ages. That's why I'm saying... treat them right in your world. :)

The fact I have disallowed vassal wars helps. Plus, all of my proconsuls and lower ranked nobles are loyal. My characters have a lot of bloodlines that were forged.

I think my favorite is the one where you can imprison someone then embalm them to be part of your macabre feast.

Yakuza 3. Currently in chapter 4, so far clearly the worst of the series. Will finish it anyway, hope 4 will be better again.

I started playing the new Ratchet and Clank game. First game in the series I've ever tried. It seems really good to me, but I wonder if that's only because it's the first game I've played without any poz or overt agenda in a long time. Production values are high and the graphics are pretty awesome. Looks great on my machine with everything on ultra and ray tracing turned on.

Aging well never concerned the mass market. Publishers don't give a **** about aging well, they probably believe that works against them.

Finished Hard West. It was difficult for me to keep track of all the characters, but I liked how there was a main story and then sidestories that expanded on the origins of the antagonists and some of your comrades in the final mission. There was an infuriating bug in the middle one of the campaigns that blocked my progress and corrupted my save, which forced me to do that entire section over again, an example of how the "one autosave, live with the consequences of your decisions" design only works if your game is perfectly stable. From that point on I backed up the save every time I completed a mission (though I only had three campaigns left so it could have been worse). Overall, a solid enough turn-based tactics game. Of course I tuned it to my preferences with the in-game options.

I'm not interested in the premise (strong black woman with an annoying voice) or the increased difficulty. I'll check out the sequel to see the other studio's take on it eventually.

I didn't find it offensive, altho it's easy to see why someone would look at it in current year and see it as such I suppose.

I'm up to 911 AD and Lilith VII who is the Augusta of the Roman Empire. She's got the devil child event line. I ended up console commanding her mother, Lilith VI, to die because she was incapable.

After enduring relentless raiders from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark I decided to end that **** once and for all. I sent in an army of 12,900 troops to capture all of it. In the end, I created the kingdoms of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark then gave them their independence.

No more Viking raiders so I'm happy.

Lilith VII has a kill count of 69 at the tender age of 9.
