ACKSHULLLY System Shock 1 and 2 along with Deus Ex had targeting for objects including worthless props. Thing is that the player will still be able to figure out the difference between useful objects and worthless background crap pretty quickly in lower fidelity games. I've said before that object highlights are a penalty of higher definition graphics and you absolutely have to have some way to tell items apart from useless junk or the player will be force to waste tons of time looking for things which is exactly what happened in the System Shock remake because it's hard to tell valuables from worthless crap so you have to stop and sweep every room carefully in case you miss something.

Bethesda's Slopfield had this exact problem. There were hundreds of useless props littering every location and it was so annoying that one of the earliest mods was the mod that disables them from the interactable items list.

It was like WB, in a moment of clarity, saw what Kim Belair had done with what was their most profitable IP and were like; "Oh ****..." and made this really quick to say; "Guys, Arkham Batman isn't dead! It's dead unless they fire every writer currently working at Rocksteady. Arguably, they'd need to shut Rocksteady down and contract the new studio of the original devs to work on a sequel, but we all know there's nobody at WB with enough intelligence to make such a decision.

Also, I bet any new Arkham game they decide to make will feature the ugly Suicide Squad Harley model, and Deadshot will be a ******.
