Act 2 finished. The bosses were even more fun this time around and I finally died a couple of times.
Liked the aesthetics of Act 1 better, but oh well.
Oh and my class specialization gave me a fire dog. That's pretty neat.

It seems to me their design intention was to force players to change their skills to adapt to certain enemies like bosses or even mobs. Enemies have indicators showing their strong and weak points.

Also switching weapons can be kinda cool. You shoot your crossbow as mercenary and when the enemy gets close you fire a grenade under your feet and switch to a shield and start blocking waiting for the greanade to go boom.

I'm not sure how weapon switching would work with the passive tree. All my passives so far boost projectile damage, so I don't really have any reason to switch out my crossbow.

You dont even need to boost it. A hammer has a shield skill which blocks all hits and reduces enemy armor. You dont really need passive skill points to improve that.

Very curious what the plan is for sorcerer now, archmage is the only thing that "works" and it requires an extremely specific build. None of the internal QA must have played fire or frost sorc at end game because if they did GGG would know it's ***. I expect a full sorc rework in the future.

Now time for ranger or minions?

Act 3 done. It felt... a shorter than the others, somehow. And easier than 2? Weird. The progression just felt weird. Probably my least favorite, even in terms of boss fights. Or maybe my build powerspiked.
Good game **** MINION COLLISIONS THEY GET STUCK IN EVERY DOORWAY OR TIGHT AREAS AND DESPAWN AND I HAVE TO WAIT 5 SECONDS EVERYTIME. Thank you for listening. Don't use more than 1 minion at a time in PoE2.

@Finarfin says I am missed, so I have to explain myself: the monthly hunter's fest is happening in Monster Hunter Frontier, which is a competition in which the the clans of the server are divided into two teams that compete to kill the most and strongest monsters over the course of a week, and my team is slacking, so @Norfleet and I have been nolifing it. Hopefully we will be able to build up a sufficiently commanding lead that I can take a break to play some PoE2, but, if it remains neck and neck, as it is now, I'll probably not be on until it ends on Sunday/Monday.

@Boontaker, thanks for the unique crossbow. @Finarfin said you had left it in the guild stash for me, so I grabbed it. At first I didn't think it would be much of an upgrade, but then I learned what chain does. It's very nice. I also found this while playing today:

Image

Which seems extremely good, but I don't know much.

Finished Act 1. Died a few times to The Executioner because I was so distracted by his pronouncing guillotine "gill-a-tine" instead of "gee-a-tine" that I failed to avoid the axe drop and got one-shot. I didn't bother exploring the whole Village and Manor Walls areas because the overworld map's marking of optional boss locations had tricked me into thinking all of them would be marked, but then I ran into Candlemass in the Manor, who wasn't marked, so now I feel I ought go back and double check those areas.

The Count was a decent fight. He had a variety of moves and enough ranged area attacks that my being ranged didn't totally neuter him. It seems the player character also has an evade mechanic, so sometimes enemy hits just pass through you without doing damage, which, as with my bolts flying off in strange directions because the enemy RNG evaded, causes me some amount of confusion in the moment. Or, at least, I think that's what's happening; I guess it's also possible that some of his sword swings just did very little damage. Either way, I died several times to his blood-beams-from-above attack that he starts using when he's low, but got him on the fourth try.

I can see why @Nooneatall might wonder if his build was messed up. The Count had a lot of health. I've invested all my passive points into projectile damage+ nodes as far as I can manage, and it still took a while to plink him down. I tried armor piercing bolts, but those seem entirely worthless. I had to stack the debuff up to 200 or so to actually break his armor, and the extra damage I get from the twelve seconds of armor break that applies just isn't worth it. Likewise, fragmentation shot doesn't apply my elemental procs quickly, and it requires me to be at melee range for optimal damage, so it loses in both DPS and utility to my basic bolts. Grenade damage seems workable... but it's really difficult to actually land them because you can't adjust how far you shoot them and they have a pretty long fuse time, so you have to be at the perfect distance and know that the boss won't be moving in the next three seconds.

I'll probably check out bows in the near future. The only skills I really use for crossbow are the basic bolts and the frost bolts, so not much opportunity cost in switching, and all my passive nodes apply just as well to bows, anyway. Somebody mentioned in guild chat that the Ranger is a prime nuker; looking around the passive tree a little, I saw that Mercenary borders on Ranger and has strong incentive to spec into her stuff anyway, so I imagine I can accomplish the same build from this end, though I don't know what the actual build is. I'll keep experimenting.

My build is trash because I'm constantly getting messed up by normal mobs at the second location of act 2. I'm going to give them a few months to balance the game and come back. I haven't found any better gear or legendaries at all. There's also none at the vendors. I'll go play through Kotor instead and get another badge

You will wear that Goldrim till level 73 at a minimum. Some skills interact, for example gas grenades can be blown up by other fire damage.
