You could fool younger people today by trying to pass this as an old SNL skit.

"... A Quick Retrospective"

Video is 6 hours long.
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

He names the videos this way intentionally because he knows midwits can't help but comment this on his videos which boosts it in the algorithm. Not a theory either he talked about it on stream.

Good video discussing the changing political climate in gaming although it ends in a very black pilling note but ultimately true.

"[…] It's balanced around you exploiting it"
I think that summarizes why Gothic is so well designed. They expect you to break the game, and have designed it with that in mind.

Funny to think that a large part of Morrowind's success was because they ****** up Gothic's marketing in USA/UK

Never tried Gothic before, but I am very curious now, wonder how is it they balanced the game around you exploiting it, sounds very interesting! Thank you for sharing these rusty!

It's a great but very clunky game with a better sequel(Gothic 2) and an even better fan spinoff game(Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos)
They do a lot of things other games just didn't and don't. I'm glad it's getting attention in the English speaking world.

Ultima Underworld, and to a lesser degree System Shock, don't get anywhere near enough recognition for their lasting impact on video games.

Ultima Underworld used to. Arx Fatalis massively rode on UU hype back then. But with so few games like that being developed over the past 2 decades, of course nobody is talking about it anymore.

You can debate how close it is to UU, but Skyrim and such definitely wouldn't even exist without Ultima Underworld.
There are very few games that have had such a far-reaching impact upon the entire medium.

Not disagreeing with this. But the last game I remember where basically every single review mentioned UU as a major influence was Arx Fatalis.

Not sure if it was mentioned for Grimrock, didn't really read reviews anymore by then. But I think most people compared it straight with Dungeon Master.

Arx is enough it's own game and even when it isn't, it's far enough apart from any other game of it's kind that no one would care. Arkane gave people something they'd been wanting even if they didn't know it, everything old and all that.

The one people forget is Darklands, despite not being a major commercial success. Without Darklands there'd be no Elder Scrolls.
