This thing makes me realise how little free time I have in a month
DA:O is a p.big game, bigger when you have to start over to claim what is rightfully yours.
@Oyster Sauce I'm nominating Underrail again.

I wish, in a perfect world, we could get a remaster or reboot on a new engine. Fixing some broken mechanics and graphics that didn't age so well.TKVNC wrote: ↑ November 22nd, 2024, 14:47Dragon Age: Origins is an oddity, the last AAA RPG.logincrash wrote: ↑ November 22nd, 2024, 14:22Going with Morrigan through the Eluvian again still felt really satisfying. A true happy end and the real ending of Dragon Age. As sad as it is that we didn't get a sequel to this solid game, it's for the better.
I don't think it needed a sequel, but it's a shame they threw it all away with 2 onwards.
But in the current state of affairs I'd rather not get that than have some watered down, soyish woke crap that will destroy that title even further.
By the way, I was really thinking about starting a new ''evil'' campaign I never had the chance to do with an elf rogue and mostly male companions as some sort ''The Expendables'' type of gameplay. But then I remember how borings some parts of the game were and level scaling and I'm like, nah I'm good.

Engine was fine, if anything the worst sin of bioware was leaving it to rot, along with the last game made with it being DA2.

I've read somewhere that the people working at bioware nowadays don't even know how to use that engine, even if they wanted to they couldn't use it. It's truly over.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ November 26th, 2024, 15:51Engine was fine, if anything the worst sin of bioware was leaving it to rot, along with the last game made with it being DA2.

If they released the sourcecode there would be a fan remaster of DAO within a year.Tenshi wrote: ↑ November 26th, 2024, 15:56I've read somewhere that the people working at bioware nowadays don't even know how to use that engine, even if they wanted to they couldn't use it. That's just an excuse. Even the people who worked on it 15 years ago would be unfamiliar with it now. Most competent developers could pick back up a fully functional game engine with multiple example games. With source control, it's not like they can break it by tinkering with it.Tenshi wrote: ↑ November 26th, 2024, 15:56I've read somewhere that the people working at bioware nowadays don't even know how to use that engine, even if they wanted to they couldn't use it. They'd only remaster it if they knew they'd be able to add 100x more gayness.
Man, I forgot how much of a **** Alistair is. Even when I first played this game fresh out of high school I had no patience for his ********. 15 years later, 8 of those having been in military service I have even less. Grow the **** up you deluded manchild.
So anyway, got Loghain in the party now. Gonna take him to Ostagar, deal with Flemeth and then go kill the Archdemon just in time for November’s end.

@TheEmptyRoad And because the game is actually competently written, you can call Alistair out on it. Though I feel like after playing again that he was part of the beginning of "quippy funny" marvel-like writing we have so much of now. Nonetheless I still like him, as there is much more to him than that aspect of his character.
I know, but his stubborn refusal to recognize that Loghain would be an asset if he survived his Joining because “hE doESnT DEseRvE iT” just drives me up the wall. Like, my dude, Grey Wardens are not and Never Have Been ‘Noble Knights’, despite what people like Cailan seem to think. We need EVERYbody against the Blight. Not to mention the delicious irony in making Loghain a Grey Warden - the very order he attempted to discredit and destroy - by putting him through the Joining and thus making him understand *exactly* what they are and why they do what they do. The Wardens recruit whoever and whomever they need to get the job done, period. /endrantReichspepe wrote: ↑ November 27th, 2024, 17:37@TheEmptyRoad And because the game is actually competently written, you can call Alistair out on it. Meh. Loghain is an overrated old fart. Retreats and lets his king die, gets basically **** on by some measly grey warden recruit thrown into the leadership role, gets everyone to be against him by having the most despicable people working under him that do nothing but damage his cause by abducting people that might criticize him and his plans. One vs One, he gets ******, and if you really wanna insult him, let your mabari duel him.

Cailan was planning on turning Ferelden into a vassal of Orlais, the nation that just got done using Ferelden as their fleshlight.

There's nothing special about Loghain. Realistically should be grabbing the best and most loyal soldiers in Denerim for Riordan's last minute joining. Loghain is a coward who regularly uses assassins to deal with his enemies (you and your allies who are trying to stop the blight and save the world) . Becoming a Grey Warden doesn't mind control you, there's nothing stopping him from stabbing you in the back the first chance he gets.TheEmptyRoad wrote: ↑ November 27th, 2024, 17:48I know, but his stubborn refusal to recognize that Loghain would be an asset if he survived his Joining because “hE doESnT DEseRvE iT” just drives me up the wall. He is supposedly a good strategist and, for all of his retardedness, knows when he's outmaneuvered at the Landsmeet. By this point there's simply nothing to do other than fight the Blight alongside the Grey Wardens and their army.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ November 27th, 2024, 18:04There's nothing special about Loghain. He was smart enough to know to withdraw from certain defeat and prevent the Orlais from conquering Ferelden again.

That is stretching it a bit far. He was in contact with the empress, yes, and there was talk of a union - likely through marriage, which theoretically would benefit both heirless rulers.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ November 27th, 2024, 18:01Cailan was planning on turning Ferelden into a vassal of Orlais, the nation that just got done using Ferelden as their fleshlight.
In retrospect though, it may be that this marriage wouldn't have been happy either, since "Trick" Weekes in a deranged moment (of which there have been quite a few!) found out that "the empress of Orlais is a lesbian who loves ELVEN p....".
Again, the use of assassins was Howe's idea - though Loghain did not protest it.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ November 27th, 2024, 18:04There's nothing special about Loghain. Really, at that point there was no indication that Orlais had such designs on their agenda. Not with the empress. Her cousin would probably think that way, though.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ November 27th, 2024, 18:09

Was Cailan really planning on leaving Anora for the Empress of Orlais, or was Loghain exaggerating?
David Gaider: Hahah! You know it's funny, that was a plot that was originally in Origins, and we couldn't include it. The Empress of Orlais was supposed to have been visiting Denerim during the time of the Blight. We had a whole plot prepared for it, but that's the way development goes. Things get cut all the time. So what you saw in Return to Ostagar was sort of a callback to what was happening there. The plan originally actually was yes, that Cailan was planning to divorce Anora originally, and Loghain discovered what was going on. But of course that's not why he did what he did right? Loghain being the completely reasonable man that he is...

Cailan was very much fine with leaving the ruling/administrating aspect of being a royal to his wife while he galivanted around jousting in tournaments and banging every blushing maid that looked at him. Anora used that willingness to her advantage and did a lot for peacetime Ferelden. Celene would've just raped the land (figuratively through taxes and literally with the chevaliers) while Cailan would've been riding around on a fancier horse ******* french women instead.fkirenicus wrote: ↑ November 27th, 2024, 18:14That is stretching it a bit far. So it is more or less confirmed, then. Weak writing, since there is absolutely no reason as to why the empress would go to Denerim during the Blight (I guess it would have to be BEFORE the Blight, right?).rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ November 27th, 2024, 18:17Was Cailan really planning on leaving Anora for the Empress of Orlais, or was Loghain exaggerating?

Where did you find this? I'd like to read more of the (madman rants) of Gaider's.
