I don’t why every Tom **** and Harry does this.Maybe its cynical attempt to be more reliable to the viewer but it just comes across as cheap and lazy.

It boosts engagement, just like the YouTube videos where the thumbnail ****** looks shocked or like he's worried he may have **** his pants.

I remember learning about this waaaaaay back in bloody 2018.

"Game is close to completion guys!" Yeah sure, whatever you say totally-not-scamming devs.

This reminds me of another mmo Crowfall. I remember signing up on their website and theyve been sending me email updates on development for years literally. And then it came out and it floped really hard.

Considering this is being made by a guy who became a millonaire through grifting, I'd be surprised if this ever got an actual full release.

Seems very... ambitious... to promise to make a world that large.

I'm almost tempted to get the $100 edition just to get the alpha starting in may.

Not that impressive, only 40 minutes large. There are games with much larger maps. Even back during the text days, we had maps that were in excess of 30 hours across.

So this is what the lack of decent new MMORPGs does to an elf...

He said a 40 minute travel by horse. To a destination on the same continent. Most of which is even further away, but isn't open for travel yet.
And not to the other continent or islands, which are also not open yet.
It'd be a multi-hour ride across both continents.

So I'm still low key impressed.

That is important to note, yes. The size shrinks if this is not the maximum speed. It's one thing for a place to be 40 minutes by horse, if horse is the fastest thing that is and thus sets the pace. If it turns out it's 5 minutes away by fast travel warp, not so much.

Places that don't exist and may never exist don't count as part of map.

So, this game is suppose to be an unrestricted pvp game.

There is going to be so much drama from the WoW crowd.

This game looks insanely flat and boring, like most MMO's. Is this what passes for game landscape in 2025?

For sure, just read some effort post on their forums about how "this time it will be different"

Supposedly this MMORPG with open world PvP is about talking your way out of fights and not just zerging and joining massive e-clans lead by influencers.

MFW.

They are going to release a PvP game without a wipe and a bunch of new level 1's will join the game to get farmed by the higher level players.

This is going to be amazing to watch.

The time of open pvp is long over. You were either there for Ultima Online, or you weren't.

Apparently the developers of this game were bragging about how being influential in the economy and crafting good stuff will be more meta than being good at PvP.

Sounds to me like they're banking on the clout of Minecraft SMPs. I'm curious to see if it will flesh out like they expect.

I'm in no way defending the game or its current state, but Initial reviews for this, and others that existed outside of Steam for long dev cycles, were always going to be a burst of negativity from angry early adopters. Esp games like this that contain a ton of red flags and have been marred with poor decision after poor decision. I'd have been surprised if it WASN'T massively negative.

These kickstarter/indies MMOs - Star Citizen, Crowfall, Gloria Victis, Camelot Unchained, Shroud of the Avatar, etc - all have the same issues. Buggy, undercooked, looks unappealing, took too long, releases in a mediocre state which doesn't get many people to become permanent payers, which means the income of the project is too low to scale up development and make it better, and then they languish in obscurity until they die. Well Star Citizen is the exception in how its making a lot of money even today but the game never got significantly better and is why they will never let go of the "alpha" branding because it'd be torn apart by reviews as a product that was sold.

It saddens me that the MMO genre (and Western gaming in general, actually even Western society) has reached this state. It's not even just a gaming issue but a trend with kickstarter or work ethic in general. Too many people asking for money to make something, and then years later they don't deliver, or they deliver too late and it wasn't up to par. It's why ComicsGate became a meme, because too many of these indie comic creators couldn't get a single issue out on time.

EDIT: seeing a lot of threads on the game's Steam forum being deleted and people being banned for asking questions or criticizing it.
