I hate this ****** so much. Wish KeysJore would've gotten the Chance to play Gothic 1. (Though he has some trouble with doing his videos since he gets a lot more restrictions on his videos, has to beep slurs, swears and stuff, too brutal stuff has to be blurred too, which is a shame since he seems like a good youtuber that just wants people to see the game, as he does shut up during important scenes and only talks if something like walking around is happening.)

Gothic is one of those games that will be really hard to remaster unless everyone working on it is on the same exact page tbh. There's just too many little things that add up. Even the Archolos team messed it up a few times with e.g., scripted death sequences.

And they used the same engine. In another engine no chance it will feel anything close to the original

I've attempted to play this game several times, but it's always filtered me at some point. Especially once you meet the rock giants or whatever the **** they are.

Don't even get me started on Gothic II, which comes with that stupid DLC that makes the base game even harder that you have to "mod out" nowadays...
Then this remake will be for you. You can probably genocide everything from level 1 on.
I mean, to be clear, I ******* loved the **** game hard. I just sucked at it.
At least you admit it, most of the modern gamers today suck at games, but like to claim it's the games poor design as to why they suck.

I have completed Gothic 1 for the first time this year, it was a lot of fun. I could go on and brag about things you already know and possibly agree- but what I wish to highlight the most is the impressive technical feat they have achieved while creating the game, and that is making it fully playable keyboard only.

It blew my mind, and I do not think that the new Gothic will impress me in the same way. Gothic 2 NOTR barely kept me hooked with the sheer quantity of new additions, I'm not quite sure if the next project bearing this title should go on with the same attitude of content-bloat.

Also, I do not want a fully-narrated protagonist that comments some snarky half-assed line every time I pick up loot, or kill a scavenger.
Check out Archolos if you haven't, it's a fan game made in the Gothic 2 engine that's great

Currently playing it its quite good if you ignore all the immortal npcs which are either quest related or merchants/guards and doors/chests you cant unlock even with the spell. Just havent found a way yet to join the water mages in their monastery if thats even possible kinda doubt it, but also joined the merchants already.

But the lack of auto saves and that its 32bit game surely forces you to save manualy a lot it crashed quite often and I cant even minimize the game to look at discord without it crashing, maybe works in window mode havent tried it yet.

Dunno. I forked it when playing it and made some significant changes to reduce crashing, but I lost my fork when the drive crashed
At the time it had a decent amount of use-after-free errors, but it has probably received a lot of work since.

I use the steam version with the gothic 2 steam version apparently all what was needed was in that installation. Havent installed anything else. But I am already lvl 43 and shortly before the start of chapter 4 still have to finish a few quests. So I wont try to change anything and maybe break the savegames. I am used to manually saving anyway from playing morrowind which also loved to crash if you dont use openmw. But the modern audience surely would seeth there which is used to autosaves.

I used the GoG Archolos and I didn't have crashes.
I don't remember if I added the DX11 fixes or not.

Edit: I did. Looks like I used GD3D11-17.8-SaiyansKing-dev3

The developer recommended the SaiyansKing fork, but that was probably because the kirides one was so far behind.
Kirides updated four days ago (18 August 2024) and incorporated a lot of the outstanding SaiyansKing stuff from the interim.

I can already see the hardcore mods' content (if it's moddable).

Well, the demo is literally a mod so the finished game will be highly moddable according to devs and kai rosenkranz.

Weird. But what is it a mod of?

47 Facts confirmed by the devs over the last three days:

1)
The demo may be released for all to access, given the significant time invested in it. Moreover, the demo itself provides a solid foundation for potential future mod projects.
2)
Reinhard Pollice confirmed a release date no later than March 31, 2025, during the showcase.
3)
Kai Rosenkranz has expressed during both Gamestar and RocketBeansTV interviews that the original German voice actors are a priority. While old sound files won't be reused, new recordings are planned with these same actors, provided they still sound similar to their previous performances. If not, new voices will need to be cast.
4)
The sound design will incorporate samples at certain moments, such as the scavenger's roar, aiming to evoke nostalgia and a sense of welcome in long-time players.
5)
Kai mentioned that the developers have given him considerable creative freedom for the soundtrack. While the option for an orchestral style, as in Gothic 3, was presented, he feels it doesn't align with the essence of Gothic 1.
6)
Reinhard Pollice and Kai Rosenkranz have both hinted that the stage in the camp will indeed be used, referencing the "Old Camp" trailer where fire breathing was seen on the stage. While the specific band set to perform hasn't been confirmed, these hints strongly suggest that there will be a performance. Whether or not In Extremo will be the band playing remains to be seen.
7)
Mod support is confirmed, with Reinhard stating that the team welcomes modding and plans to support it. Players will have the ability to create new dialogues and entirely original stories. However, due to certain limitations within the Unreal Engine, modding will be somewhat restricted, and mod kits are unlikely to be provided.
8)
Marvin Mode is confirmed to be included, bringing back the ability to cheat in the game. However, the specific functions it will offer have not been revealed yet.
9)
Unlimited Inventory space. No space or weight limits.
10)
The daily routines of the NPCs have been significantly expanded. Reinhard confirmed that NPCs will react to the weather, such as seeking shelter from rain, and some NPCs move between hotspots. Monsters and Animals are also having daily routines expanded.
11)
Random Encounters, Reinhard said they will be added, hotspots will have them, so it feels more alive.
12)
There's Killing and also Knock-outs. That was shown during the "HandOfBlood/SoyfacedFaggot" gameplay where he knocked out Kirgo and then killed him. It will be two actions. Humans usually will be knocked out and then you can choose to let it be or kill them.
13)
NPCs will loot us too. The demo didn't have this but the full version will. Friendly NPCs that spar with you won't do it, but everyone with hostile intentions will.
14)
Torches can be used as weapons. You can plant them into the ground, so you can fight with something else.
15)
Locations are being expanded in a meaningful way up to 15% to 25%, this is so that the Locations are more detailed.
16)
Climbing is a learnable skill, as the system has been expanded upon.
17)
Diving will be a skill that can be improved. The system was expanded upon. Diving is available from the start but you have to improve it to dive further down.
18)
You can now interact with things underwater, such as chests.
19)
Quality-of-Life Features, three examples have been confirmed such as "Take everything" when you loot chests, when crafting or cooking you can craft more than just one thing. You will also be able to pick up things when your weapon is drawn.
20)
You can now just stomp meatbugs.
21)
More hidden areas to reward exploring.
22)
Interface is final.
23)
Cooking is expanded in a big way, with recipes. There are multiple stations that offer different ways.
24)
Food has regeneration effects. Some regenerate over time
25)
No housing system, nothing like skyrim, though you have huts like in the original game.
26)
Chapters are back. Reinhard said that respawning animals are tied to chapters
27)
The Quest density will be expanded. The original was quite empty in chapter 3, but in the remake it will be packed. Main Quest and Sidequests are expanded.
28)
There will be new NPCs. You can see one new (dead) npc in the demo. These new NPCs are imbedded into the Main Quest and Sidequests.
29)
Combat system is progressive like the original. You are inexperienced at the start and have to go learn to get better. Both animation and gameplay will let you know that.
30)
The world will be easier to read. NPCs and everything will look exactly how they are. If a guardsman is armed to the teeth and has a big axe, he will be very strong. If someone has rags and only a club he'll be weak and so on.
31)
Armors are partially modular. The Guild armor will be more diverse. NPCs and we, can upgrade various parts of our armor and even personalize them.
32)
Ranged combat will be available in different levels. At the start you can't pick up arrows, later on the more you are skilled in ranged combat, you will be able.
33)
Quests have multiple ways to be done.
34)
Abilities can be learned at teachers.
35)
Reinhard said that the story of Gothic isn't done yet. They want to expand Gothic 1 if they can and would like to develop a Gothic 2 Remake. IF the first remake is a financial success, it will most likely happen.
36)
You can partially adjust the Difficulty. What exactly is meant by that is not known, yet in the same interview Kai said there is no difficulty setting and that you could disable or enable certain functions
37)
Blood is worked on. The amount is not satisfactory.
38)
Dynamic Blood. Depending on what weapon, and how much damage you deal, blood will flow differently.
39)
Unlimited Save and loading. The demo has 3 revives. Only demo. Full game has save and loading without revive.
40)
Gear will be noticeable. If you got a better weapon, you will feel the difference, same with armor.
41)
Ambient dialogue and dialogue in general will be more dynamic. NPCs will react to events.
42)
New Story-Events and also regarding the camps. Like the collapse of the mine or an ambush of the new camp
43)
The roles of the four friends will be expanded, new situations , new quests and dialogues. There will be an iconic scene that emphasizes the bond between the four friends.
44)
There will be references to other areas and places of the gothic universe.
45)
Dialogue between multiple characters will be possible. Meaning not only two people will talk but also three or four people.
46)
The proportions of some people will be tweaked. Snaf will be fatter and Gorn will be more muscular.
47)
New Monsters will be introduced apparently according to a youtuber called Danny Kickem that jokingly said he send his people to ask the devs about it and one of the questions was the monster one.

I'm not reading all that.

Rice Fields of the New Camp in "Gothic 1 Remake"

Image

The rice fields are one of the first things newcomers encounter upon entering the New Camp. Here, under the open sky and in any weather, peasants sweat day and night, forced into grueling labor.

Ruling over the fields is the Rice Lord, one of the camp’s founders, with his loyal "hound" Lefty keeping order and crushing any signs of disobedience. They also make sure that all of the peasants have enough water to keep working.

The rice harvest is the backbone of the camp’s economy, as it allows the production of rice schnapps, a highly-demanded product across the colony.

But dissatisfaction is brewing among the workers. Many of them are disillusioned with this way of life, and they’re ready for change.

That area was so funny to me when I played it.
I wandered in from the greater prison colony, pretty well armed, and some idiot local thug by the fire tries to be intimidating as I walk up.
I then go and see the fat overseer guy the thug mentioned and he tells me to get to working for him in the fields or else he'll sic his goons on me.
I laugh. This continues for a bit, and they try to be more threatening. I'm baffled by this. I fight the local orcs and monsters for fun. Why are three thugs and a fat man a problem?
So, "**** it" I think and get to work. I draw my warhammer and down the thugs with two hits each, then I pummel the fat overseer to death as he screams and runs.
I loot him and his house and put my stuff in his trunk and sleep in his bed because it's getting late and I don't want to fight in the darkness.
Next morning I walk into town expecting a big fight with the guards. Nope. Nobody gives a **** that I murdered a fool and his goons and took over his house.
I even immediately make friends with Gorn and his mercs and the mages that run the place. Lol.
Such a great game.

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

This looks amazing, but I'm sure they are going to **** it up.

They might **** it up, but it will still be the better remake compared to Witcher. Extremely low bar obviously.

Cautiously optimistic, they seemed to have taken the overwhelmingly negative feedback of the playtest to heart.
