Does anyone here play any modern-day GZDoom stuff? I.E. Brutal Doom, all the neat Heretic/Hexen rpg mods, Strife, etc? Was thinking about starting a dedicated thread on the forum for it, reviewing different wads and etc. Also to laugh at ZDoom forum ********. Let me know what you think here, bc I play the **** out of a lot of these things.
I haven't played Brutal Doom in a long time, but I can't imagine it's changed much. Mass gore, kill ****, a dozen forks. ******** hate it because it's more popular than anything else in the whole world and it kept the mod scene alive when nothing else was relevant and nothing they do can cancel Sgt Mark IV. and he's a HUEHUE on top of all of that.
Wrath of Cronos hasn't been updated in aeons, but someone
forked it I haven't tried it so I have no idea what's changed or how good it is, but I loved the original WoC. No idea if it's kept the cross game compatibility or not. Might be best to track down the old version of WoC first and try that out, or not. Another one in the same vein, but not an RPG is
Schism not exactly complete, but more than enough there to have fun with several classes including a wizard with a gun. Documentation is on the moddb site though so read it though to understand how to use everything.
GMOTA Go Medieval On Their Asses is a great class/weapon/monster mod designed around the console systems of the era and the PC, one character for each platform. Unfortunately, Kustam, the NES representative was disabled in the most recent release due to balancing issues, but he's practically a 1 to 1 recreation of Kuros from Wizards and Warriors with some other really cool NES era weaponry and effects. So right now there's just the Blaz who's the SNES character and Doomslayer. Samson is supposed to be the Sega Genesis character (and a kobold) to come in with the revamped Kustam, but Kegan seems to have dropped off the face of the planet so who knows when any of his mods will be updated. His other stuff like Combined Arms is worth checking out too, autistic attention to detail in bringing over NES style weapons to 3D.
Hideous Destructor is great if you love trying to survive impossible situations with whatever is handy. Dev is a ***** enabler and such a snowflake he can't even be on the GZDoom forum anymore so all updates are on codeberg now. It's great fun, be sure to mod out thing cringe help file, that makes him very butthurt.
Colorful Hell: One of several monster mods. Lots of colors, each one does something different. You usually run one of these with something else like...
DoomRLArsenal: One of my favorite mods, no longer updated, but it has an update mod on top of it that adds some additional things. Breathes new life into countless WADs with four different classes and loads of combinations of weapons. Comes with its own monsters, but it's also compatible with most of the popular monster mods (I.E. Colorful Hell).
Russian Overkill/Trailblazer/Guncaster/All Pillowblaster mods: Insanely overpowered Russian/Mad Max/Dragon OC kills every ******* thing in sight and you pretend you're a badass because you beat Going Down or Chillax without having to reload the game.
Corruption Cards: Play WADS, draw cards, live with the consequences.
