What's wrong with the RPG "Encased"

Post by Rand »

So I read a post on here that Encased is not very good as it's unfinished or something.

After Encased bombed in sales due to being an unfinished mess, Dark Crystal Games went under, but the devs themselves regrouped and founded a new studio

I liked Encased more than I should have. Not even because its unfinished content-wise, they whole skill system was busted. Still I enjoyed it for the 15h or however long it was.
I just started and the initial section seems pretty well done.
What's wrong with the game?
Should I not bother with it?

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

Everything after the prologue.
Too many issues to list, quite honestly.

But it has a good prologue!

the game was extremely front-loaded. It's like Lionheart - first chapter is good, then the game goes to ****.

AFAIK the developers were poor at project management, so they've ran out of time and funds and were forced to release what they had on their hands.

oh yea, got a screenshot of it saved in my "I hate skillchecks" folder

"Rusty, why do you hate skill checks in RPGs?"
Skill checks in RPGs:
n6jgIaX.jpg
can I jump over it?
…crawl under it?
maybe ask for help to move it?
use something as a lever to lift it?

of course not.

Wait, that girder is actually obstructing you from passing it somehow?
It looks exactly like you could literally step over it with a tiny effort.

Well, I can share you inside about this game, because I was able to make contact with devs, russian studio made this game: they were planing to add content with patches, patch 1.4 was almost ready to release with new quests and new content on location, but than war happened and western publisher Prime matter said: "you are fired, come back for salary when you overthrow Putin", closed studio, fired everybody, devs told this in a game discord, community create shitstorm, then mods delete everything, some people banned and now it is dead and that is how story ended. Funny thing is, the dev who told me this worked with Larian on act 2 as outsource, ironic.

You can still go on, it's extremely short anyway, but you will like be disappointed by the end. Combat was also crap, you could just shoot down anything with basic attacks. There was very little to consider building your chars

It has a great start in many ways, and then it just falls apart, and you just sorta go through the motions until the abrupt end that feels like it goes nowhere.

It's all honestly pretty sad, because all the pieces are there, it just doesn't fit together very well and then it dies.

Faceless Sentinel's post seems to explain this.

I highly doubt whatever they had planned for 1.4. would significantly improved the game. There was too much missing from it, if they could have fixed it in a few weeks/months, they could have just released it a bit later.

What I disliked most about it couldn't have been fixed with a patch anyways.
I like the setting the game starts with, then they just toss it out for walmart generic brand stalker-fallout
