Don't know if I'm going to be on tonight, and I definitely won't have ninjutsu ready in time. Feel free to xp or whatever without me.
Cheating on them with your other mmo?
Tch.

Joined a random XP group last night for lvl 51.

They showed me a secret vampire dungeon under Castle Sandoria(!) that had a very good spot for fighting bats.

I'm level 54 now, so able to go after the limit break 2 items when others are ready.

I'm working on acquiring some ninjutsu so we can level with @Kalarion's PLD tonight. I also got RNG to 9 for future Ghelsba runs.

I don't even know why they bothered listing some of these on the EXP Camps page:

Yeah, sounds real good...

Had a good xp party in Rolanberry with @Kalarion and @J1M. My NIN is 23 now, so we can do pumas in Meriphataud tomorrow to continue catching Kalarion's PLD up. I was hoping to squeeze in a little leveling on my SAM this evening, too, but the invites were not rolling in, and I didn't feel like organizing another group this late.

Is there a way to add to the launcher add-on list? I don't see things showing up there when I add them to the folder.

(Can change default.txt but seems like a weird point of friction.)

I don't think so, but I may be wrong. I think the point of the launcher list is that these are the addons that are guaranteed to be allowed on Horizon. On the other hand, the fireworks sound removal plugin does get added to the launcher, so maybe there's a line that needs to be added to the settings file or something? You could check there to see.

Yes. It's not even close. But XI and XIV are very different MMOs, with fundamentally different design philosophies. FF XI follows UO/EQ philosophy, while XIV follows WoW.

The screaming about FF XI's controls and UI are not without merit though. Be prepared to put some time in adding and tweaking mods to make it actually look like a functional MMO viewport.

They are both good, but you play them for different reasons.

FF11 is good if you want a real MMO experience, not a JRPG experience. There is a story in FF11, but 99% of your playtime will be spent doing gameplay stuff like being in a levelling party, or journeying through a dungeon to kill a Notorious Monster for a piece of gear or to complete a quest to unlock airship travel, etc. You solo to level 10 and then after that you will do almost everything in a party with other people because mobs the same level as you will almost certainly kill you. Due to the time commitment of the game and the lack of a megaserver, you wind up seeing the same people on the same stage of their journey as you and forming communities to progress together. The combat is low APM so you can talk and shoot the breeze during your partying, unlike modern MMOs which imitate Retail WoW as pseudo-action games where you are constantly pressing a button every second and have no time to chat during gameplay. I submitted a more thorough review on FF11 as both a JRPG and as an MMO, but it hasn't been approved yet :eyebrows:

FF14 is good if you want a singleplayer JRPG/visual novel story experience, where you press A to continue to the next dialogue box in the cutscene. The main story is currently 400+ hours long and 50% of it is cutscenes, another 25% is spent running to the next NPC to talk to or to the next cutscene to watch, and then maybe 25% is any actual combat which is simple and easy, usually taking place in an instance you queue for through a menu and get teleported to with randoms, beat the boss and then everyone goes their separate ways. It has good aesthetics and good (albeit grossly overrated) music (but still good enough I bought $600 of Blu Ray OSTs). The two main issues you have to beware of is that 1. the story starts off grounded and being about regional geopolitical conflicts between countries and there are some stakes and consequences, which was interesting and lasts up through Stormblood 200 hours into the game, There are a few good moments. Then by the Shadowbringers expansion, it becomes about Kingdom Hearts light vs dark Organization XIII feelgood schlock in which all conflicts are forgotten as everyone holds hands and sings kumbaya. The messaging becomes a little insidious starting with the ShB patches. Also, the writing becomes really wonky and I started tuning out, but it's not super bad. It's currently on par with Trails, the other current long running JRPG storyline which I am also not keen on its latest arc either, but I would rather play FF14 and Trails than whatever Western slop is coming out nowadays.

The other big issue is that once you finally get caught up on the story, there is little reason to stick around because FF14 is **** as an MMO and there is hardly anything worth doing. Despite my dissatisfaction with the game, I am still subscribed, mainly because I don't want to lose my house (gets demolished and sold if you don't walk into it once every 45 days) and I will probably never get it back given the housing shortage. I haven't really played since Dawntrail came out a few months ago.

I'm assuming the tuning fork fights that reward additional SMN pets require high level parties? I have the water one in my bag from somewhere, but since I am only interested in it as a subjob, I'm not sure I care about collecting them all?

Any advice on making my SMN useful enough in a party with just carbuncle to get to 37? I'm assuming the answer is just: sub BRD until done Ghelsba @20, sub WHM and heal to 37.

Adjusts the names above people's heads so they don't look stretched.

Dunes is awful XP compared to Ghelsba, but as a scrappy SMN one must take what one gets and hope nobody realizes you don't get Cure 2 as /WHM until level 22.
