Netflix cast the actors in inverse proportion to how attractive the characters are. All the Slavic 10/10 cuties got turned into ugly ********* (redundant, I know) and the fugly Slavic man (redundant, I know) Geralt got turned into Henry Cavill.
It still gets to me that they cast the ugliest blackest sheboon to play Fringilla, a woman that looks nearly identical to Yennefer and specifically makes skin creams that make her look as pale as possible.

Yikes. I don't remember beating the original that fast the first time, but it definitely wasn't 17-20. I remember subsequent playthoughs being quick though. Just the right length that doing additional runthroughs to get the other endings was fun rather than oppressive. So how did they pad it out that much? Did they add backtracking objectives/puzzles and make the locations more complex (additional openable room doors in the hospital, etc.), or is that extra runtime just from combat? Sounds like they didn't know how to let the game breathe and killed all the tension.Bing_xiLim wrote: ↑ October 9th, 2024, 08:06What's worse is the padding. Holy **** the ******* padding. They took a 7-8 hours game and stretched it to 17-20 (including new scenes which are completely unnecessary). The amount of combat is also way too much, and enemies are super aggressive that running past them is not an option. At first, the combat loop is enjoyable enough, but the game keeps throwing hordes of enemies at your face so frequently that it becomes absolutely grating after a while. I do appreciate the revamped enemy behaviour, and some of the boss fights (like Eddy) are definitely a welcome upgrade. But holy **** this game's combat is NOT good enough to be thrown at your face as often as it is. The extra length and padding, and the constant running back and forth means the pacing is absolutely shot, and the game does little to hold your attention for that long. Whereas in the original, everything felt airtight. The game knew just how long to keep you in the same location without making you want to quit the game out of boredom. I cannot imagine replaying this game without significant mods.
Now that I know that Zothique has no ******* taste whatsoever, I'll ignore his ******** antics about every ******* game he played and assume the opposite of what he says to be the case.Zothique wrote: ↑ October 9th, 2024, 09:18ACKSHULLY... she's HALF-pajeeta, thank you very much!gerey wrote: ↑ October 9th, 2024, 06:33Seek professional help, you have a severe case of poo fever. Yeah pretty much. Old puzzles have been slightly altered and there are new puzzles and expanded locations. At first, it was something I enjoyed, but as the game went on, it started getting on my nerves.DDC wrote: ↑ October 9th, 2024, 09:39

Despite all of the positive press and user reviews, it seems like the game sort of bombed. Less than 1/3 the peak players of RE4. And it might end up being worse than that because RE4 has 93k reviews, whereas SH2 has 6000. Not concord numbers, but not good for the most-loved Silent Hill game. I think the controversy did hurt it. All they had to do was fix Maria's model and mannerisms and I would have bought it.
Looking forward to reading your detailed review once you have time to digest your "quick thoughts."
Edit: I watched a video of it with a 4090 to see how my PC would run it. Needs DLSS to run in the 60s maxed at 4K. Lots of dips into the 40s without. Graphics look good, but not good enough to warrant that. Also, just about everywhere I clicked in an hour-long video, the guy was fighting patient demons. Looks absolutely awful. I agree 100% that it needs to be modded.

For example, to enter Woodside Apartments, you need a key, but in the remake, you must solve a puzzle involving fixing a jukebox. This requires gathering pieces from different locations and combining them. Similarly, the clock puzzle now requires collecting clock hands while being ambushed by enemies.
As the game progressed, it became irritating with constant roadblocks—extra puzzles, finding keys, and environmental obstacles. Enemy encounters feel longer, and while the combat is decent, it becomes repetitive and frustrating in narrow spaces. The game's difficulty makes avoiding enemies tough, and some sections feel like unnecessary resource drains.
Jumpscares are added, with loud noises accompanying them. Over time, tension turns into annoyance as you learn enemy patterns and combat strategies. The lack of subtlety in character portrayals is noticeable, like Angela’s trauma and Eddie’s creepiness. Eddie’s character is improved but feels underdeveloped despite a great boss fight. Optimization was decent, with occasional FPS drops on high settings.

Shani is a great girl with a good demeanor as well, but Yennifer is at least two tiers more beautiful.

RE4 Remake is a AAA game with a huge budget made by more than a thousand people, while SH2 Remake was made by a relatively cheap Eastern European indie studio. I assume the budgets are nowhere near close, so one should not expect SH2R to have the same sales figures as RE4R to be considered a financial success.DDC wrote: ↑ October 9th, 2024, 09:39Despite all of the positive press and user reviews, it seems like the game sort of bombed. Well, at the very least Gamergate woke up a lot of normalfags who were content to play video games and got them to pay attention to politics. Now more people rightfully distrust journalists.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ October 10th, 2024, 15:01reminder that this all started because people thought it was unfair for someone who is having sex with a game developer to publish a review of her game without at least disclosing such btw

That does make sense, because I have indeed noticed how pathologically obsessed with censorship and "stopping the rapid spread of misinformation" libtards are in general.ArcaneLurker wrote: ↑ October 10th, 2024, 14:48Why do they lie like this? I was never recruited by anyone.
It's very telling that they can not fathom a human deciding something for themselves. They must be projecting that they wouldn't be able to tell a lie is a lie unless their primary authority told them it was.
It's nice that they're trying something new, but... wot?

Not sure. It's like Stardew Valley but without the combat/ mining, etc.
Looks like a lot of pointless busywork but I appreciate the theme being like Peter Rabbit or something similar, as long as it's not too furry-esque.
True. I was apparently weird because when the covid shite started in late 2019, I was always saying "I don't know what's going on but everything I hear on the news and from officials seems both wrong and unbelievably stupid. Don't listen to these bullshitters." And I got strange responses.UltraFan123 wrote: ↑ October 10th, 2024, 15:26That does make sense, because I have indeed noticed how pathologically obsessed with censorship and "stopping the rapid spread of misinformation" libtards are in general.ArcaneLurker wrote: ↑ October 10th, 2024, 14:48Why do they lie like this? It appears that they are under the impression that every single person in the world blindly believes everything they hear on news or podcasts and stuff like that, maybe because libtards themselves only believe what their "anointed" say without question.
