Remember how in ME1 a letting a woman to decide for her child was a Paragon action and forcing her to vax the kid was the Renegade action?
Did the quest stay the same in the demaster? Or did they take a hatchet to it because current BioWare is all in favour of forcing people to ruin their bodies?
I just got to that portion of the game and it's the same.
So we walked down the hill into all those fears and maybes, all that sorrow, nothing certain in our lives except the frozen earth beneath our feet.

I didn't mind the reapear plot too much, in ME1 at least. The whole "ancient prophecy, looming evil" thing was ok, and having to explore, investigate and gather information throughout my travels to find out the scale of the threat, I found interesting. It just completely dropped the ball in #2, and I have yet to even play #3. They clearly had a good start, but just couldn't carry it on.
ME1 should have ended the reaper plot. The entire point was they'd have to now move at regular speed to get there, which was supposed to be slow. Suddenly, reapers move at the speed of the plot.
I agree in the sense that Reapers should have been the harbingers for Leviathans. Frankly, the hurr durr killer robot theme was already old and tired by the time Mass Effect came along, I saw the twist from a hundred miles. ME3 could have turned it all on the head and made the plot a little bit unpredictable, but eh.

Still better writing than 2023 RPG icon Baldur's Gay 3 or any other modern games.

Estimates of their location in dark space suggest they can travel nearly 30 light-years in a 24-hour period."
As per usual, writers are fuckin' tards and despite wearing "I HEART SCIENCE!!!!" shirts, have absolutely zero concept of scale.
At 30ly/24 hours, and assuming "deep space" is outside the galaxy, say 200kly from the core, the fastest they could get to Earth from the closest point is 220kly, or about 20 years.
The most distant is only 280kly, or just over 25.5 years.

I think I messed it up by extrapolating based on arcturus, which they've placed very far from solar on all the official in-game maps.

Either way, still doesn't add up. In 6 months they'd travel ~5,500 lightyears. Reapers should know where all the relays are, 5,500 lightyears between a major relay is way too much.

Kek I remember that one because I replayed the series during the peak of the great cuckening of the 2020s.
I'm just stating the facts.

currently started a playthrough of ME1 (Last time I played ME was 2013) and @Darkestfantasy was kind enough to make a modlist along with a custom texture pack. played the first hour and it feels very nostalgic

Having only one single way to get back into the galaxy is a stupid plot point anyway, especially if the whole "restart galactic civilization by wiping everyone out" deal has happened before. No sane person, machine villain or not, would leave themselves with a single way to start their evil plot in this manner. Especially since they could just build a ******* relay for themselves and use that.

I have no idea what the writers were thinking.

There was actually a backup plan, it had dedicated dlc Arrival in Mass Effect 2. You disrupt this plan. Unfortunately I didn't replay mass effect 3 long enough to forget how this plot-point go in mass effect 3.

I did play The Arrival, but the entire plot there only started because the idiots stumbled across an artifact that proceeded to brainwash them. So it was less of a back-up plan than an accidental stroke of good fortune. The Reapers took advantage of that after you ****** up their first plan.

I just think that millennia old machine intelligences should have better plans than "Hide artifacts and hope we get lucky".

No, it should have had more than one antagonist. The Reapers and ME1 were pretty well done.

ME2 should have dealt with other concerns, such as what is beyond the spooky relay nobody wants to venture past. It was also clearly set up that after some duration of time that a fledgling Krogan empire would naturally become a problem for the other races due to their rate of expansion.

They're not, BioWare has proudly said in the past few years that the DA and ME teams have been merged, and that the ME team has been working together with the DA teams on Deadname.

Andromeda had the same "vibe" as Deadname, and the same cartoony feel to it.

If it were me, I'd have the reapers be using the black hole in the center of the galaxy as a portal engine to a pinched off area of spacetime where they can have godlike control of the properties of that spacetime, such as altering the relative time rate at will.
They're totally invulnerable in there as nobody else has the tech to even approach the black hole and survive, much les manipulate the singularity to alter spacetime to open a portal.
Then, when it's time for another harvest, they use their tech to link all the relays only to theirs, making all travel (except to them) impossible, and they are never more than two jumps away from anywhere. The first jump being into their space, which is not a place others ever want to be.

There. In literally a minute I solved several problems the ******* at Bioware fumbled through four games.

Unlikely. Among Andromeda's most cringeworthy moments is the ****** on the first desert planet making extra sure you realize he's a ******.

I still remember because the ******** started screeching up a storm at the "insensitive" writing.

Well. That looks like a poison pill.

On the other hand BG3 could be modded to remove their influence so maybe this can be saved as well?

This is all we got:

Image

https://blog.bioware.com/2024/11/07/n7-day-2024/

Hi everyone,

November 7 has arrived once again, and as always, we’re grateful for the opportunity to celebrate all things Mass Effect! This year is a little different, as we just launched Dragon Age: The Veilguard as a studio; so we’re purposefully keeping things lighter as we celebrate the launch of the game (speaking of which, you may notice a small treat from the Mass Effect team in Dragon Age: The Veilguard* if you check out a new chest inside the Lighthouse).

There is some cool new merch in our BioWare store and we have partnered with No Man’s Sky and Destiny 2 to bring back a couple fun cross-promos in those games. Be sure to check our social channels for all the details.

Although we are a little quieter this year, we couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.

— The Mass Effect Community Team

* Requires Dragon Age: The Veilguard (sold separately), all game updates, & internet connection to claim and use content.

I will never understand this desire to see a show/movie based on a video game franchise that was already following every single trope, cliché, or plot point from movies. Like, the Last of Us is a cinematic slop Oscar-bait story. Lara Croft and Nathan Drake are literally Indiana Jones clones. And Mass Effect is just a kitchen sink full of **** stolen from every popular sci-fi universe.
Literally the only reason why video games can get away with this **** is because they're an interactive medium. People get to feel like they're actually present in those universes. The moment you remove this most distinguishing element, you're left with regurgitated, overused and tired slop of a story.

Uh erm... You actually expect ME to watch OLD movies in 2K24? OK bumer, but will not watch this show made for nazis, commies, racists, sexists, transofobes, heteros, they are irrelevant, old, there is no diversity and inclusivity, no ***** characters, no blacks!
