Broken Sword Series

Post by 1998 »

Revolution is currently working on two games.

Remaster of the first Broken Sword. That was actually a Kickstarter project successfully funded with ~700k USD. It's a remaster, up to 4K with every single scene redrawn. They also "fixed" some autistic inconsistencies like rainwater pipes not extending all the way to the roof. While you can absolutely play the original today with no issues, such a (visual) remaster on paper sounds great. They asked for 45 GBP for the digital Collector's Edition on their Kickstarter. I guess that will release for at least 35 USD, for an almost 30 year old game. I would have expected that they at least combine the first two games seamlessly into one at this price point.

Broken Sword 6. There is not too much to be seen right now. They are moving back to a more traditional 2D-look, well sort of. Character models are 3D and it looks terrible. Especially the animations feel completely out of place. No release date yet, but certainly after the remaster.

This is now out.

I finished it, and that's how a remaster should be done. Meaningful upgrades, everything redrawn, some qol improvements but everything entirely optional. You can even go back to the original graphics via TAB at any point. Interestingly they did not include the Nico start in it (was added for the mobile versions), which nobody should play for a first playthrough.

So we walked down the hill into all those fears and maybes, all that sorrow, nothing certain in our lives except the frozen earth beneath our feet.

As a kid, when I finally solved it, I was more enraged than happy. I love Broken Sword games but holy ****, that was some bs.

Yes, and right after that you got the fast drying towel. Really not the best section of the game.

You'd think they'd space it a little. How did u feel about the stone lion head in BS2?

Which one? Don't remember that in BS2. Lion head was BS1, those stones in 2 are jaguar, coyote...don't remember a lion stone.

Oh my bad, that was in BS1 too. Yeah the falling wall door thing carved like a lion in a cave. BS2 only had two of those kind of timed events IIRC.

Sure, the randomly inserted mirror on your second visit was indeed a bit bs. I got lucky first time that for some reason I picked it up, but even back then I thought it was a bit weird just to add it at that spot on your second visit.

I remember the one where you had to put something in the guys drink but could only do it while he was holding it at a certain angle or something.

You had to pick something up while he was drinking. None of those timed puzzles were particularly great, but the only one I was really struggling with the first time was that ******* goat.
