Sounds good, I never actually played the first icewind dale and maybe that's why my party wasn't the best. I played IWD2 a lot more along with BG1&2 but sure, when we get to the good baldur's Gate games I'll take that offer.

Good example for a game where difficulty settings make sense. Sure that party is not optimized but who cares? Turn down the slider and still have tons of fun. I just finished chapter 2. Also far from the best party but still fun.

I have come to the final fight, but those Iron Golems are impossibly annoying and I am severely under-equipped to sustain the amount of bullshittery that is going on in there, am I screwed to have to re-load a previous save to go back and buy things? I deeply disdain having to re-do things, especially when it is dialogue-related with choices I am invested in, but I have no way to fight through this, God knows I tried.

Post levels, classes, equipment. You only need 2 properly setup beaters to win that fight.

They chase mages, so you could just have one run around while your others attack Belifet with Pale Justice, the upgraded sword from Jhonen, etc

What I do is to wait for "Poquelin" to cast dispel magic and then cast summon animals and the staff of my mage (Summoner's Staff) to summon monsters to distract one of the golems so they do that mist somewhere else while the rest of the party waits and attracts the other golem. When the other golem casts the mist, I engage with everyone while the cleric casts Zone of Sweet Air, while at the same time making my mage, shadowdancer and beast master escape to the lower section of the map (plus having my mage drink an invisibility potion the moment they try to get him so they engage someone else).
When that is done, I keep spamming monsters to block their movements while my wizard slayer and paladin whack at the golems, issue is that my cleric is supposed to buff them and heal them but I have no way to heal him fast enough to even begin that strategry and what happens usually is that I am left with just either the beast master or the shadowdancer alongside the mage when the proper fight with "Poquelin" starts, and they, as you can see, have no way to deal damage to him, and he is resistant to my mage's spells. I got him to near death once by summoning shades when I was left with just the mage through sheer luck of how long the others survived, but I had no way to continue dealing damage and when I switched to melee in a vain attempt to continue, he burned him alive when he teleported. Rinse and repeat. I would need to buy potions and finally find some weapons for my beast master as I have not found any clubs for him since the start of the game.

I am using Core Rules as difficulty.

I'll give an in depth answer in a bit, TT gaming right now. This party can succeed. If you want to try on your own, I would recommend sacrificing your theif, ranger, wizard+summons to the golems while your cleric buffs your front line. Defensive harmony, prayer, improved prayer, haste, bless all stack

Thank you, and do not worry, take your time and have a great play!
I usually do sacrifice someone for this fight (lore-wise for my roleplay, the shadowdancer joined the team because he wants to "die with a bang" and followed the scent of blood to the party, knowing they would get in danger, so it would be poetic for him to get his wish at the end).

I did it.

I alt+tabbed during the cutscene and it caused one of the golems to attack us, moving him in the middle of the map with us, which allowed me to finally be able to not waste time as I waited for them both to converge which allowed me to make my cleric survive. It was glorius. We lost the paladin and the beast master, and ironically, and unfortunatly for his wish, the thief died but not a permanent death as he hoped.
I did not get any ending screen besides the credits, so I am not sure if I missed something or anything like it, but now I will start the DLC. I cannot put to words how much I love this game. It's my love for Icewind Dale II all over again, and it's beautiful.
I read @Oyster Sauce was the one that organized this, so truly thank you for inspiring me to finally take up this game

I loved the music, the dialogue, the story, the characters, everything was beautiful. I still am not sure if I was hearing things, but I could swear Kuldahar's music even changed as the story progressed. I loved the side quests as well, with the restoration of the small parts of the Severed Hand and finding out the tragic misunderstanding between the Elves and Dwarves and who was behind it all, and how characters recognized you and had different dialogue for you (like the child in front of the general goods store in Kuldahar or the villagers back in Eastheaven).
I wanted to post my party at game's end, but I already did above, so I will post this instead

I have the cleric wiki pulled up and was about to post my recommendation lol. Good job! Doing that fight with 2 Archer builds is tough, ice wind dale doesn't have a system in place for projectiles to pierce higher forms of damage immunity. This is achieved by having higher values of + on weapons, +3 or higher is required for everything in that fight.

Bg2 is even more of a nightmare with multiple enemies using Magic immunity making them IMMUNE to magic weapons!

Did the Summoned monsters help? The old crpgs have a "fade to black" ending for all the final bosses, many of the expansions are designed so you can complete them mid playthrough if you want a more chronological completion.

I'm looking forward to the Jr's baldurs gate 1 - 2 playthrough, should be some really fun posts.

What really helped me was when you made me realize that I was trying to save everyone and sacrifices must be made. When the fight started I really thought I would have to let someone go, so I forsook staying in one place in favor to spreading out and tanking the cloud of the second golem, which though proved to be exactly what I needed. Ironically, the monsters were much less of a presence this time around, as I summoned them sparingly and only to clog the place, but even then it was three from my mage and only twice from the staff, the rest was all hack and slash and the cleric finally doing what I hoped he would with all those prepared spells.
I wanted to go back and edit my post to add this, but I saw you reacted so I did not know if you would see it by then, so I wanted to say thank you especially to you for making me not lose hope on my save  I titled it "Screwed" after so long spent hearing that cutscene as I tried again and again, but now it fills me with something I don't really have words to explain to see that and how things turned out since then. Thank you once more Boontaker
Looking forward as well for more games like these, maybe even replay Icewind Dale 2 at some point, though I will save it for if it might become another adventure to do here so I can keep my mind fresh from too much repetition. I can't say I recall much of it when I played the 2nd Baldur's Gate compared to the 1st one (HEYA! It's me, Imoen!), but it would be nice to revisit!

I started enjoying RPGs a lot more when I stopped trying to get a 'perfect' playthru and accepted what I got.

I myself never try to do the perfect thing (explore everything in one setting) but instead play my own version of the game (with not taken paths, not done quests, etc), what I meant with sacrifices is that I was trying to heal the whole party and help everyone survive or, at least, deal some damage, and that was a fatal flaw in this fight. I like stories that have weight and, for example, in my playthrough of the DLC the paladin and beast master are missing because they had a perma-death. The time I tried to be a "completionist" it just felt like a chore and not enjoyable in the least for me.
As for reloading in other occasions (like complete party wipe), I hope to play every game with a perma-death mechanic in the future but I have to prioritize my enjoyment over it until my health gets better as I fear I might not get to enjoy the games later on. If it does get better (fingers crossed) and I will have the time to, I hope to play everything on hard and once more do those note-taking I used to do

Oh, I guess not then. I'm in Chapter 4 still and about to detour into Heart of Winter.

EDIT: BUT IT BEAT IT BEFORE!

Any of you managed to save Malavon's slaves? I tried power word silence, spiritual lock, teleportation field, but they keep casting Cloudkill and instant kill all slaves

****, just found out about Nym
I expected the BBEG to be behind the theft of the artifacts, not some random trader you meet in a gnome camp

Malavon in my game just about killed himself with his own spells and majority of the slaves were still alive but they did not have any new dialogue and remained there. Same with the rest of Dorn's Deep, the one you can give food to and another in the forge have dialogue (plus the gem cutter in his home) but they all remain in their place and don't return to their camp. I was also trying to find the son of the father who was building the statue, but to no avail and he remained there.
