You can download HD maps for many of the zones here: https://remapster.com/downloads/
Apparently the author never finished all of them. There's a combined HD map pack here that you may want to try: https://github.com/CriticalXI/XICombinedMaps

My WHM is level 10 if we want to group up later. Bought a wand and shield but I haven't tried to do any missions.

We need a bigger party. 3 people is not enough for XP chains and magic bursts.

Thanks for all the help tonight @Val the Moofia Boss and @WhiteShark. I like healing in this game a lot more than WoW.

The top layer of Jeuno is very pretty.

This NPC is aping my style from five levels ago.

From left to right: me (fashionable, trendsetter), NPC (woefully behind the times).

These tarutarus told me they were doing an important experiment, but to me it just looks like they're playing with colored blocks.

Unbound my q/e turn keys(useless), bound q to /targetbnpc in the Ashita console(press insert).
/targetbnpc - Targets the closest NPC or monster within a certain radius that can participate in battle.
Going to try binding e to target <bt>
<bt> - Sets target of the macro to the last monster claimed by party

That wiki is up to date with retail, so there's definitely more stuff in general. If you mean the chat commands on that page in particular, I'm not sure there are any more than are in the manual, but I'll have a look today. Also, the manual says you can enter /? for a list of commands in-game and /? <command_name> for the details of that command.

I wonder what this game was like for people who didn't have a wiki or an AH full of items from high level players.

Must have felt like a dark scary world to push out into.

Nah it was a beautiful, mysterious and explorative adventure - although confusing as ****.

First playing this game at launch I spent a month in front of Windurst unsure where to go.

I'm honestly shocked at how quickly the game wants you to travel the world. You reach San D'Oria mission 2-3 very quickly, and then it wants you to see the other two starting capitals, and in the process you're probably going to see Jeuno and the two neutral settlements as well, all around levels 20-25. Up to that point, the farthest a San D'Oria mission has you travel is La Theine Plateau, so it's a huge leap in scope.

I think 2-3 was something you were not intended to do ASAP, and simply accept the quest and continue being in levelling parties and then you would eventually get around to the other two cities. But given the main storyline eventually converges in Jeuno, which is a convenient centralized location, and unlocks airship travel between cities, and you have to do a lot of travelling to get the cool advanced jobs unlocked, it becomes very much in your interest to do your nation story and get to Jeuno ASAP. If you have friends who are citizens of other nations as it becomes really inconvenient to play with them if they are not based in your city or in Jeuno.

I'm not so sure. For one, the chocobo quest becomes available at 20, which is right around the time you start 2-3. Then there's the fact that the BCNM fight at the end of 2-3 is apparently locked to level 25. I don't know what it has you do if you go to Bastok first, but the interim step at Windurst was also pretty low level; I think the NPC I had to kill was only 16 or so. All of that suggests the devs expected this stuff to be happening in the early level 20s.

let me know if you have any questions about the UI there and I can try to help.

For keybinds, I used the program I linked earlier(lunix) to rebind my numpad to IJKL/combo for corner(7, 9, 1, 3). I used XICamera to adjust camera speed
https://github.com/Hokuten85/XICamera
Which allowed me to quickly rotate the camera.

q & e were bound as I posted previously. q targeted nearest enemy, e targeted most recent enemy added to threat list of party.
to move camera while in combat, hold shift.

use ctrl+key to access the default binds: ctrl+i -> inventory, ctrl+l -> linkshell, ctrl+p -> party, so on and so forth.

thotbar to bind my abilities like a regular MMO, posted about it previously

don't rely on tab EXCEPT when sub-targeting. For example, switching attack target, tab will only switch between enemies. Picking someone to heal, same deal.
F8 will select nearest NPC, friendly or not, lets you easily select NPCs.

to be clear, I never used the mouse.

You set your custom addons/binds in the default.txt in the proper area there.

Wow, I would have installed this ages ago if the description had said more than, "Allows customizable zoom levels for the in-game camera." The slow camera rotation has been one of my biggest gripes with the game while grouping because it was hard to see whether my party was following.

For those on the fence about joining, note that rusty quit because he liked it too much.

Also don't worry about starting later because we can party by switching to level subjobs.
