Anime and manga have become the biggest escapism option from western slop.
This is why the whole western industry around it is trying to corrupt it and coopt it. This is why you had localizers changing dialogue to fit SJW worldview, this is why japan is getting pressured into changing the social agenda of anime, its gone all the way up to their legislative bodies.

Of the only two animes that I skimmed ( evangelion and attack on titan ), both were incredibly feminist.
They both suck.

Theres very good anime, you just need discerning taste.

Around 99% of whatever gets to the screen is pretty awful, but thats the norm for everything.

Use MAL. Crunchyroll is unreliable as it keeps gaining and losing licenses so the ratings are all messed up, though MAL's rankings does have issues in that sequel seasons are usually listed separately (as opposed to all in one like LoGH or FMAB) and thus overinflated in the rankings since people who didn't like the earlier seasons don't watch and rate the later seasons, so you're just left with the fanboys and their high ratings overinflating the sequel season ratings.

Most of the stuff on the top 50 list is current-era stuff. Has anime gotten better, or has anime simply gotten gayer to fit the sensibilities of the average anime enjoyer?

Some of the stuff from the 70s-80s-90s doesn't look too bad, but most of those shows don't appear to make a top-50 list among anime enjoyers.

top animango:
As the years pass, Frieren gradually realizes how her days in the hero's party truly impacted her. Witnessing the deaths of two of her former companions, Frieren begins to regret having taken their presence for granted; she vows to better understand humans and create real personal connections. Although the story of that once memorable journey has long ended, a new tale is about to begin.

Anything older than 1995/2000 is not easily accessible to stream on your phone or your TV. You don't see Appleseed or Dragonar or Gunbuster on Crunchyroll or Netflix. You have to jump through a lot more hoops to watch old cel animated anime. You either had to pay for grossly overpriced FUNimation/Aniplex boxes, or as hunt down those pirate streaming websites which keep getting taken down, going to a streaming website and then chromecasting to your TV while running back and forth between your sofa and your laptop, or fiddling with torrent software trying not to get caught by the swarm and sent a cease & desist letter by your ISP, etc. So there are simply fewer people who will watch those old shows. There are still people watching old stuff as seen on 4chan's /m/ board or reddit's watch along series for old shows, but again it is more niche.

If you have trouble pirating a show for any reason other than no one hosting it anywhere you're spiritually sub-saharan. People who pay subscriptions for streaming services are lower than dirt in fact, so you shouldn't be using score aggregators that factor in people who payed to watch something's rating.

I agree, every newer TV I've seen can either play shows directly off a USB drive and/or has the ability to stream from a laptop or PC directly to the TV. You don't need a streaming service. I have a hard time imagining that weebs are this tech illiterate, given that a bare minimum of effort on that front would greatly enhance their hobby, and save them money at the same time.

Even the ******* $200 Roku TV my boomer dad uses can play off a USB drive. I educated him about that, and showed him how to torrent TV shows & movies on his laptop and drop them on a USB drive, and he canceled his cable sub.

That's one of the reasons why I still haven't played the remake. I wanted the Father not the Brother. You literally gave the European and US market the superior version and then screw up by using the gay jap version for the remake and you didn't even bother remaking both Gestalt and Replikant. ******* Japs.

It's surprisingly rare to see games and anime that star adult men. Most of them only feature teenagers, and if there are any adults they tend to be treated as generic "yakuza" gangsters or thick-headed brutes who serve the teenage lead. I still hold Monster as the best anime of all time, simply because it tells a mature story without resorting to gore or any traditional cliches. I wish a show like that wasn't so rare.

In case the question was serious: it's because South Koreans only need a look across their border to see what happens if you give insane lefties any power in their society.

NK is a different flavor of socialism, yes. But it's still **** from the same ***.

Is rusty gonna have a stroke if I tell him that Nier slept with men and women to pay for his and his sister's food and medicine? :smug:

In all seriousness, as good as the gameplay and overall story beats of Nier are you'll realize the makers where on drugs the second you scratch at the surface even a little.

Too bad that you ignore all their other investments, like in military corporations, who gets trillions of dollars in government contracts to produce weapon, tanks, airplanes.
