I don’t think pre buffing is bad per say however certain developers take it to a ludicrous degree.Roguey wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 15:58There are a lot of people who think any kind of friction in a game is "bad design." Or that having to do any kind of reading at all is "bad design." Just a nonsense judgment based on the preference of the person making it. "Prebuffing is bad" belongs in the same category.Nooneatall wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 14:38Your opinion is brain dead not only because you are a stupid ******, but you are doing one of them logical fallacies. prebuffing is bad because the games with it never even have dispel so it might as well just be passive

Those are the rules when it comes to D&D and OGL-derivatives. They'd have to either go out of their way to implement a user friendly feature to make it more manageable or create house rules to address it which may prove unpopular. Knights of the Chalice only allowed non-healing spellcasting during combat, there were a number of people disappointed with that, it's a very gamey restriction.Unhelpful Contrarian wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 16:30I don’t think pre buffing is bad per say however certain developers take it to a ludicrous degree.
Not true. I've had my buffs disspelled in multiple games. But they can't very well put a wizard in every encounter.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 16:30prebuffing is bad because the games with it never even have dispel so it might as well just be passive

pity edit: use additional spell and abilities for enemies ofc, otherwise I think there's like a couple instances of mages casting it and at least one creature that has greater dispel on its touch attacks. Additionally, WotR sometimes surprises you so you cannot fully prepare and, some other times, is moronically coded with some pre-battle cutscene that forces you into a fight with no buffs.

Prebuffing is cool as long as at least one of the following is true:
- You have to pick and choose between buffs depending on the encounter, either because of limited renewable resources or drawbacks built into the buffs;
- Buffs come from genuinely scarce consumables, such as potions in roguelikes; or
- Prebuffing is the domain of a specific class or classes (that aren't a total no-brainer to pick).
Gave up on Blaster Master: The Enemy Below for Gameboy Color after beating the first boss. A standalone-expansion pack remix sequel to the NES game with off-key music and nerfed weapons. The boss was way too spongy and I decided I just wasn't liking it at all.
Finally!

I'm playing betrayal at krondor, it aged better than most games from its era. Has some interesting ideas, very story heavy in a way that's hard to describe.

I've been replaying Extinction mode from COD Ghosts on an emulator since I backed up my physical 360 copy. I appreciate the higher frame rates without worrying about hackers like in the steam version.
They really didn't know what direction they were going in with the story. In some maps they call the creatures "aliens" and others "cryptids". Well there's a trillion of them with several subspecies, so they're no bigfoot. So I will go with option 1, they are Aliens. The inconsistencies in the story were negligible because there was player customization and the "teeth" armory for in game buffs like "take less explosion damage" , "sniper deadeye (all sniper shots are crits)" or "find the ARK attachment" which is essentially the "I win" attachment that turns a weapon into a star wars blaster, and more. The random loot drops as the map progressed always made it feel worth returning to try out clearing a map with different guns. Though the boss fights are just tedious solo. Really wish there was more than just 1 map without a boss fight. They always devolved into parking turrets in the corner covering me while I did DPS against the boss.
If it ever gets a continuation. I hope they retcon the corner they wrote themselves into where they just ****** off to go hide in the ISS forever. Would have been interesting to see more maps without a boss fight like Point of Contact. Since Washington DC fell in the last act in a throwaway line. Would have been an interesting map idea to add friendly NPC's in.

Played some more, it's actually really good. Some complaints are limited inventory space, and the battle screen being hard to make out. This is the sort of game that is screaming for a remaster, just a bit of polish.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ September 1st, 2024, 01:18I'm playing betrayal at krondor, it aged better than most games from its era. Casting Negative Plane Protection on each party member every few minutes did get pretty tedious in Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession. There was no reason not to have it running constantly.WhiteShark wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 22:32Prebuffing is cool as long as at least one of the following is true:Without some consideration like the above, prebuffing becomes pure busywork that shouldn't exist.

Why are you mad? I'm on your side. Redditors huddling in a Discord server to allegedly "gatekeep" mods for Persona 3, a game that hasn't been relevant since 2006, seems like a stupid thing to do. You said, "There is no logic behind anything they do," and I just about agreed with you.

I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

Playing Mount and Blade: With Fire and Sword. Mostly just Warband with guns, QOL improvements, and that peculiar Polish sense of style. I quite like these games despite their common need for modding.
Got a NWN playthrough going. GoG sale still on but grabbed UW1+2, Avadon and Atom RPG, might grab Trudograd before sale is over. Backlog grows some more.

It has been over 20 years and I am still seething at NWN's campaign, I paid full price for that piece of ****.
[edit]
The two expansions, Shadows of Undrentide & Hordes of the Underdark were fairly good at least.
