Thats the point Im making. Their 'independance' happened when they moved from mail.ru office to another office.
I remember how I was trying to find an actual owner of owlcat ganes. Its all judicial mystery. I tried to search the open sources of Cyprus company registry and I found the name of one guy who used to be a top manager at mygames, a gaming division of mail.ru.

If you don’t mind can you provide a source for that.It Really would confirm some my personal theories on Owlcat.Yankee Zulu wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 06:39The money for this owlcat fiesta comes from mail.ru aka VK which is one of the largest IT companies in Russia. Yeah yeah they said theyre 'independent'. Thats just a marketing trick. No way mail.ru would sell this asset. The hobos at owlcat dont have rhe money to move to Cyprus let alone buyout a company from a jewish mail.ru.
I would assume that them moving to Cyprus was purely a PR tactic.wndrbr wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 07:58AFAIK their main office is still in Moscow, they only relocated their 'headquarters'.Yankee Zulu wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 06:39The hobos at owlcat dont have rhe money to move to Cyprus
Source for what? If youre saying this is my personal speculation then yeah it is. But now you go ahead and find me the owner of Owlcat Games.
I said something about Owlcat being owned by mail.ru on steam forums. Their mod replied vaguely that theyre "independent but mail.ru remains their strategic partner".
Theres no ******* way Owlcat would be able to have connections of such a caliber to get in touch with Paizo and then Games Workshop and do all that marketing,.voice acting and promotion without the "help" from mail.ru. No way.

and Alexander Mishulin would be the owners since there “independent” Most likely private investors have some ownership of the company however since Owlcat is private company that information wouldn’t be disclosed to the public.

I understand not making a portrait for every NPC but the lack of important NPC’s for major story characters always annoyed me. It was already noticeable in Kingmarker and absolutely ridiculous In WOTR where 70% of VIP NPC’s had just a name text box font.
No, those 2 dorks are not the owners. I told you I found the guy whos affiliated with mail.ru. Even if he is the real owner, that doesnt mean mail.ru doesnt own him. Its a web of companies each one owning another.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter which company owns what.
IIRC VK sold all their gaming divisions off after the start of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict in 2022 due to them thriving in the overseas markets. It was more beneficial for the gaming companies to belong to some abstract international entity than to be tied with a country at war. "VK Play" was created shortly after in order to capitalize on the Russian market.

That Russian gaming podcast interview with Owlcat founder was deeply saddening. Sometimes I wonder if Devs enjoy setting themselves for failure.
It matters because ultimately the owner is the one who pays the bills.
Yes, VK sold mygames in 2022. The buyer then gave away the russian part of that to another company - Astrum Entertainment. Whether Owlcat was part of any of those deals or not remains a mystery.

I agree that Owlcat "officially" moving from Russia to Cyprus was a marketing thing made for show since it was indeed announced immediately after the conflict with Ukraine began. A relatively young and small studio - at least back in 2022 it was - wouldn't want to be associated with a country that's currently at war.
In Kingmaker, literal no-names simply known as "Defaced Sisters" had not one but two portraits made for them, yet in WotR the daughter of big bad Baphomet doesn't even has her own portrait. lolUnhelpful Contrarian wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 15:41UltraFan123 wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 04:03Well yeah but the complaint is towards the lack of portraits for the NPCs.J1M wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 04:02You can import your own portrait so that seems like a really weak criticism.

Note that when VK sold mygames, the owner was anounced publically.
When Owlcat became 'independant', it was just like that - 'We became independant!'In October 2022, VK sold My.Games to Aleksander Chachava for $642 million, managing director of Leta Capital
Interesting You confirm one of my theories.Owlcat rapid expansion was always was a red- flag because there games never sold hugs amounts. The other large tipping point was that there making 4 titles which for even AAA studios would struggle with that let alone Owlcat who struggles to have a functional game at launch.Yankee Zulu wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 16:50Note that when VK sold mygames, the owner was anounced publically.

My only question now is why the secrecy.

If they are funded by an oligarch that likes Pathfinder and 40K I'm completely fine with that and wish someone like Elon Musk who says he likes Deus Ex would open their pocketbook to fund a vanity project that I cared more about than Twitter.

Only 'oligarch'-funded game I'm aware of is KCD, very silent partner who knew next to nothing about video games, AFAIK he just wanted to fund a czech cultural product.J1M wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 20:33If they are funded by an oligarch that likes Pathfinder and 40K I'm completely fine with that and wish someone like Elon Musk who says he likes Deus Ex would open their pocketbook to fund a vanity project that I cared more about than Twitter.

Anything but not PF2e and Starfinder. Please OwlCat makes a Retroclone adaptation.

I remember that story. The guy funded most the game budget and the kickstarter was just there to prove to that there was an interest for that game.
Sucks that Warhorse Studios got bought out by Embracer Group.
If Owlcat makes another pathfinder( won’t be a while , half a decade or at best) It will most definitely be PF2e since Pazio has discontinued PF1e sadly. Pathfinder games post Owlcat are all using PF2e in one way or another.WaterMage wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 20:41Anything but not PF2e and Starfinder. Please OwlCat makes a Retroclone adaptation.
Owlcat did say they would like to to do remaster/ remake of kingmaker ( probably in PF2e) but said no plans for it at the moment.
PF2e picks the worst of 4e with the worst of 5e.
I hope that OwlCat will adapt a retroclone next, not PF2e.

It depends really. But I get the feeling there going to move away retroclone games and focus on more popular RPG’s genre.WaterMage wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 20:57PF2e picks the worst of 4e with the worst of 5e.

I hope a Warhammer FANTASY game them. Or a game set in world of darkness.
I think they disconfirmed World of Darkness and 40k, but not Warhammer fantasy. I hope that omission is hinting towards that because that would be my ideal.WaterMage wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 22:27I hope a Warhammer FANTASY game them. Or a game set in world of darkness.

I too would be disappointed if Pathfinder 2e is what is used in the event that either Owlcat or some other studio made a new Pathfinder game, but chances are that Paizo will force that particular edition to be used regardless which is just sad.

Pazio has made there intentions known by the next project with Ossian Studios which will be PF2e.Personally I have no interest in the game because a it’s a low level adventure 1-7 .another thing I don’t like the promotional art for the kickstarter which look like asset bought stock images. I admit I’m being harsh to say that but first impressions matter.

What's your stance on moustaches?
So we walked down the hill into all those fears and maybes, all that sorrow, nothing certain in our lives except the frozen earth beneath our feet.
