Owlcat Games Future Projects Thread
Owlcat Games Future Projects Thread
Apparently an AMA happened. Conclusions:
- They're working on 4 titles.
- No World Of Darkness.
- No StarWars
- No D&D.
- Not working on any IceWind Dale 3, or similar ideas.
- No plans to have a full party member respec in Rogue Trader (probably because of Argenta and Ulfar)
- 1 of the games will be using Unreal Engine
- their games will have full V/O
- their RPGs (not going for anything else, it seems) will *all* be isometric
- Games Workshop was very happy with Rogue Trader, but nothing new will be produced. For now.
- Despite the fact that they enjoyed collaborations with Chris Avellone nothing is in store for now in regards to him, and they are not against working with him in the future
I ran out of patience and willingness to be on Reddit at this point, so I bet I missed things or even got things wrong. If you know better and you care to comment, feel free to correct me or add stuff below!

Full voice acting is possibly overkill if they'll stick to isometric AA CRPGs anyway. At the very least the positive thing is that they can't write walls of **** nobody cares about anymore now that they have to VA everything. Could be a gamechanger for Owlcat's terrible writing. Also how the **** do they plan to push out four titles when Wrath and Rogue Trader are still in active development because of all the bugs and/or unfinished DLCs?
Another thing they should've mentioned or I hope they will put more effort into is adding more portraits and drawn scenes. It's pathetic how few characters have full blown portraits and I'd argue that's far more important for immersion than VA's. Rogue Trader did give me little copium that Owlcat has potential to make non-slop games but I feel like it wasn't as big of a success as they'd hoped after Wrath.

Why would they be?
Also, The White March already exists.
Wish I had a clip of the Rogue Trader popsicle stick puppet animation
Not to a bunch of theater homos like Owlcat, it's not.
So they don't plan on doing anything interesting? Glad they let us know I guess.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

How pozzed is Owlcat itself anyways? I know Kingmaker and especially Wrath were terminal aids in that department, but I also hear that that’s true to the original Paizo adventure paths. I’ve played a bit over half of Rogue Trader and I’ve noticed very little that I would call woke, other than just one companion who is ethnically ambiguous and bisexual (though you also have the option to execute her soon after you meet). Have I just not gotten far enough?
Kingmaker was okay. Kingmaker is actually a lot of fun.Brother Michael wrote: ↑ August 7th, 2024, 22:12How pozzed is Owlcat itself anyways? Rogue Trader I don't know yet, because I'm playing a Dogmatic (for the EMPEROR playthrough) and in this type of playthrough, everything is very tame.
WOTR is a minefield, though. Especially if you wanna play any good alignment.

True, “terminal AIDS” might be too strong to describe Kingmaker, but I’m giving it a second go now and am strongly considering sending the polycule on the front line to die.The_Mask wrote: ↑ August 7th, 2024, 22:15Kingmaker was okay. Funnily enough I somehow missed pretty much all the woke in Wrath when I gave it my first try. I got bored at the beginning of Act 4 and only noticed the disproportionate amount of melanin in this European fantasy world, but the ****** **** just never popped up for me.
The whole company is terminal AIDS.Brother Michael wrote: ↑ August 7th, 2024, 22:12How pozzed is Owlcat itself anyways? I know Kingmaker and especially Wrath were terminal aids in that department

My takeaway: they are burning all of their cash working on too many titles, spreading their most competent staff thin.
Also, Pathfinder games plus some vanity in-house IP projects.
Also, Pathfinder games plus some vanity in-house IP projects.
Also, 4 projects = 2 actual projects and 2 things that will never leave pre-production. One to justify not firing their concept artist friend and another as a containment zone for employees they can't fire but don't want near a real project.
Sure, but unless I’m wrong about Rogue Trader, they’ve at least shown the capacity to refrain from jamming critical theory into anything they touch, possibly to whatever extent their licensed IP’s holder dictates. I’m hopeful about a potential Warhammer fantasy game.Gregz wrote: ↑ August 7th, 2024, 22:27The whole company is terminal AIDS.Brother Michael wrote: ↑ August 7th, 2024, 22:12How pozzed is Owlcat itself anyways? Owlcat is very good at adapting the tabletop rules of the OG pen-and-paper games, so what I was actually hoping for was that they might one day release a type of CRPG ala Neverwinter Nights and its sequel where you can custom-make your own adventure paths and share them on multi-player with someone acting as a Dungeon Master.
With AI voice technology advancing at the speed it is, it would have eventually been relatively easy to adapt any other adventure path or even make your own original adventure with the Pathfinder 1st edition ruleset with full VAs even if it was artificial, said ruleset being one that I personally believe is very good and even better than the original 3.5 in some aspects, despite the unapologetically pozzled nature of the Golarion setting.

Good, because if I had to play an Isometric VtM game I'd want to kill myself.

not Pathfinder either, but all four are parts of existing franchises.The_Mask wrote: ↑ August 7th, 2024, 21:38They're working on 4 titles:

Did they open new offices/teams? Outsource ****? How can they work simultaneously on four games, they couldn't even release a single one in a somewhat acceptable state.

Easy, instead of releasing one unfinished game they'll just release 41998 wrote: ↑ August 8th, 2024, 01:54Did they open new offices/teams? Outsource ****? How can they work simultaneously on four games, they couldn't even release a single one in a somewhat acceptable state.

Owlcat has specifically they won’t use AI voice in a recent Q&A which is surprising. Honestly I really curious how they able to to multiple projects , be a publisher and has team size (500) more then larian and making 1/ 10 the sales. Owlcat must have a major private investors because there sales numbers doesn’t justify such rapid growth( Rouge Trader sold over 500,000 in the span of four months, good number for CRPG’s but not blockbuster levels of success)

I get the impression that devs (especially small indie’s) would love to use such time and cost save measure saving them $100,000’s + potentially. However the negatively around the use of AI is not worth the headache to deal with.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 02:07When I thought I couldn't hate them anymore, they come out supporting an industry worse than gamedev itselfUnhelpful Contrarian wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 02:04Owlcat has specifically they won’t use AI voice in a recent Q&A
Major publishers and developers can rather such controversies but small ones can be devastating despite being extremely useful tool.

Owlcat saying they want to murder all voice actors would convince me to buy their games.Unhelpful Contrarian wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 02:19I get the impression that devs (especially small indie’s) would love to use such time and cost save measure saving them $100,000’s + potentially. After playing the Dance of Mask DLC which is fully voiced I have major concerns for there next games being full VA since the DLC validated every one of my fearsSchizoid1488 wrote: ↑ August 7th, 2024, 21:48Full voice acting is possibly overkill if they'll stick to isometric AA CRPGs anyway. This is the third game that has so little portraits which is even worse in Rogue Trader. I was will give them slack in Kingmarker since there were significantly smaller.( 30 people) But now there significantly bigger and have more resources there still have the same issues that people been constantly complaining about for years now.Schizoid1488 wrote: ↑ August 7th, 2024, 21:48

You can import your own portrait so that seems like a really weak criticism.
Well yeah but the complaint is towards the lack of portraits for the NPCs.J1M wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2024, 04:02You can import your own portrait so that seems like a really weak criticism.
The money for this owlcat fiesta comes from mail.ru aka VK which is one of the largest IT companies in Russia. Yeah yeah they said theyre 'independent'. Thats just a marketing trick. No way mail.ru would sell this asset. The hobos at owlcat dont have rhe money to move to Cyprus let alone buyout a company from a jewish mail.ru.
