Games without any major female characters

Post by rusty_shackleford »

:knight::knight::knight:

This thread is for manly men games with men doing manly things. :knight: :knight: :knight:

I'll start: Gothic. There's a couple women, but they have nothing important to say at all.

Gothic is rugged and manly. You get thrown headfirst into a prison colony and have to fend for yourself. You can trust almost nobody — you do get a few bros along the way — and everything wants to kill you. ****, what a great game. Only complaint I have is it falls apart a bit towards the end.

Anyone who mentions homosexual games will be thread-banned.
Since we don't have thread-bans, you're gonna get site-banned.

PB's other series startup is about as rugged and manly. It's all about men meddling with ancient power they don't understand and you showing up a lot of people on the way. No bros to shoulder the burden unfortunately, but it's got Richard Ridings and John Rhys-Davies in it. The only two real females are your sister who exists to give you a tutorial and act like an annoying woman. She stops existing for all intents and purposes part way through the game. Meanwhile, Patty exists to give you a small quest line and that's all, she isn't important until the later games.

Pimps, Pistoleros, and Prostitutes. The 80s apocalypse didn't pull punches and it was a man's world. The only woman in a position of power is Charmaine in the Temple of the Mushroom Cloud and if you don't want to play by her rules you can blow her and her crazy cult away and find the path into the Vegas sewers yourself because that's the kind of game Wasteland was. Everything else is ran by men of all stripes. Ugly John in Quartz wants to be a big player and isn't afraid of blowing the mayor's wife into little pieces to do it. Fat Freddy wants to take Fyran Brygo's place in Las Vegas. Irwin John Finster has a plan to remake the entire surface of the Earth in his image. I guess you could even say the AI at base Cochise is male for all intents and purposes given how it acts.
Oh, I might have mispoke, I guess the gun toting nuns in the in the Guardian Citadel might be considered women in power, but you never talk to them and they never say anything to you about women's lib or male inferiority. You just turn them all into a fine, red mist.

The Banner Saga trilogy: SRPG with four mandatory male protagonists (Hakon, Rook, Bolverk, and Iver) + 2 optional female protagonists (only playable if you make certain choices), dozens of playable characters, but only a handful of women party members.

Final Fantasy XV: the game is about three guys escorting their bro to his wedding. Only the four guys are playable. There are a couple of girls but they only cameo for a few minutes in the story.

EDIT: IIRC Thief (not the 2014 game) was all men

The daughter is one of the protagonists in at least the first game, with plenty of female major characters.

Alette is not playable in TBS1. She can only become playable in TBS2 if Rook died at the end of TBS1.

The only major female characters are Juno (the wizard), and to a lesser extent, Alette and Oddleif who are satellites to Rook.

Does Starflight count as manly? There's no womyn, but it's not overtly manly.

Meant as the protagonist outside of the SRPG battles.

Samurai Warriors allows you to disable all women in the options.

Doom 3 has almost no women. Exactly one woman is seen the entire game, and it's for a very brief period.

Fallout 1 fits the bill. Tandi is a side character in the first game and you can wind up skipping her kidnapping by accident if you never return to Shady Sands. Every organization is ran by men except The Blades and The Followers of The Apocalypse and you can see how great they're getting along.

Of course, Battle Brothers:

No women in sight. Nobles are all men. Mercenaries that can join your merry band of brothers are all men. Enemies are all men or monsters. A game about running a merry band of mercenaries roaming the land to fight for fame and profit.

That looks a lot like the menu to disable women in Romance of The Three Kingdoms XIII from the same company, Koei Tecmo.

kind of strange how easy it was to make an accurately modeled version of a character from an 80s movie in some random shooter

Yes. And this is not a AAA studio from a huge company. So, their budget for MoCap must have come from squeezen every penny. It's around 140 people so its not a one man show or a 5 nerds in a room kinda indie but what I mean is not Ubisoft, EA, Activision, y'know the big houses. And still, somehow, they made it work. Almost like they wanted to actually make a game instead of a propaganda piece...

One of the default party characters is "Angela Deth".

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.
