I hope one day we get Denuvo but for anti-datamining. Dataminers ruin games.

This seems pretty interesting. Looks to be a Silent Hill-esque dungeon crawler set in Japan.

I've saved the world hundreds of times, so why don't I get more respect than fake genders? My actions have even saved the galaxy, several times. Where's my flag? Where's my month?

I mean a good time traveling game where you can alter the plot with it
Legacy of Kain has time travel ramifications that aren't limited to a single game in the series.

It's not choose your own adventure though.

noticed that they added tacky jump scares in a few spots. some parts don't look bad at all, like when inside the apartment complex and beating down enemies, but the town and the enemy behavior on the streets is awful.

also, they did a possibly unforgivable sin, they have gigantic pulsing red blood smear the corners of the screen when you take damage, and it doesn't go away after combat. it's one of the most egregious UI mistakes i've ever seen and it's something that will immediately take you out of the moody atmosphere silent hill 2 hopes to accomplish. It's doubly insulting because this is one of the things the infamous parody video of the sh2 remake slathered on the screen as a joke.

Maria's facial animations... and her robotic voice... ugh.

2001 CGI cutscenes remain undefeated.

The answer has to be a game that doesn't appeal specifically to women in general or it wouldn't make sense to cater to black women all the time.
6 months later I've finally found the answer. Half of the people commenting on this Sims 4 strip club mod video have black women selfies as avatars.

Exactly my thoughts. That red border is such a confusing and **** choice.

Yeah I really don't like the photorealistic approach they took. I always thought SH2 was a game that would benefit the most from a heavily styled graphical presentation. Something that was inspired by the 2001 CG cutscenes. I'm sure that would be a difficult task for any studio to achieve - but I think if Bloober were able to do that, it would have paid off in spades. I just can't imagine achieving that level of surreal, uncanny vibe going the photorealistic look. It would have also clearly set it apart from Resident Evil. The overall aesthetic of SH2 is just so good - regardless of whether it came about as an "accident" or it was intentional on Team Silent's part.

I'm also not feeling the music so far. Something about the overall mix sounds off. Take for example, the "combat trailer" they dropped for this remake - where we heard brief snippets of 'Promise'.

(Listen from 1:20 onwards)

The iconic guitar riff of 'Promise' and the drum work just... sounded off; the guitar tone more specifically. It was definitely NOT the same as the original and it sounded like very generic overdrive. As for the mix, the lead guitar seems way too loud, it almost making the notes sound a bit too "exaggerated" for a lack of a better word. Whereas in the original, the drum and cymbal hits were a lot snappier/crispier and you could actually hear the the rhythm guitars in the background filled the stereo image with warmth, giving it a bit of body whilst allowing the lead guitar to shine. Everything sounded "fuller" and more "immersive", whilst also sounding more raw.

In fact, if you listen to the snippets of 'Promise' used in the story trailer - it's the same type of experience. There seems to be a disconnect between what Yamaoka made for the original game and what he's cooked up for this one. This article I found online is also not very reassuring: https://www.gamesradar.com/games/silent ... rd-a-bass/

I'd wager he probably didn't have the best recording and mixing equipment either, perhaps why the original mix sounds more "industrial" in terms of its overall sound.

I might just be very nitpicky, but I can't help it, because the original game's is one of my favourite soundtracks of all time.

I'm expecting something that will be "passable" or "ok/good" but the ******* like the ones over at r/SilentHill will eat it up and talk **** about anyone who expected something truly great/unique, just like the original.

I don't think it's gonna be "good". It's Bloober team, they are a bunch of hacks who are only good at making fancy looking environments.

Silent Hill 1-4 cannot be and should not be remade. They are all about 'vibes' and 'atmosphere', the precise things that cannot be replicated by a different team from a different country with a different culture in a different time. And if you can't do that, then what's the point? It's not like SH games have intricate never-seen-before stories, or distinct gameplay features. They are basically watered down Resident Evil games, and their main draw are the various idiosyncrasies born from the way the Japanese devs view the western supernatural horror media.

I would've preferred Konami to put resources into hiring a bunch of programmers adept at reverse-engineering so they could properly remaster the Team Silent quadrology onto modern platforms.

I don't think any western studio has the same attitude and mindset that Team Silent did to be able to create something actually reminiscent of the first 4 games.

Nope, just **** artificial game lengtheners. Never had those ****** stamina bars in older melee games and they worked just fuckin' fine. Chiv and Mordhau are all animation exploit duels anyway.

'game lengtheners' wdym, they speed up a fight by making it more decisive when someone runs out of stamina

I believe the purpose of stamina in a game like Dark Souls is to try and approximate a turn-based battle system without it being turn based. It has no business being in a pure action title, that's for sure.

It's a ******** mechanic because it makes you wait to do things, it's not exclusive to PVP games. I hated that mechanic when it first started getting popular because devs think its "realistic", whereas I am playing a video game to not be someone that tires out.

doesn't help that stamina is based on how many times the average game developer can swing a baseball bat without being out of breath

For real? That would actually explain a lot. I recall when I used to be able to run I would get "fresh" and stop being tired altogether if I kept going past my limit, it was exhilarating. I have never seen this implemented in any game I played, but I think I recall someone telling me it is one of the many abilities of the human body.

the main reason you don't see UIs like baldur's gate or [insert your favorite older game here] anymore is because devs make resolution independent UIs out of pieces that scale. Having a UI that scales to multiple resolutions is just simpler when using basic shapes & colors — think websites.

this is the primary reason for the so-called "looter shooter UI" AKA "destiny UI"

Shadow of the Colossus definitely benefitted from having a stamina bar, which determined how long you could cling on to dear life onto the back of a colossus that is ferociously jostling around trying to shake you off and send you falling to your death, or how long you could hold your breath while arduously climbing along the back of a long eel to reach its head and kill it. There was tension climbing the central tower hoping you would be able to make it to a rest spot before you ran out of stamina and fell and died. In that regard, stamina is like your real HP bar, since the official HP bar doesn't really matter because being stomped on by a Colossi insta kills you no matter how high your HP stat is.
